So, if you know of anyone having problems with the citizenship (no birth cert, no MyKad, still having red IC) or related to marriage registration, can approach the JPN.

Thanks to Sujieta for list below. I’ve been asking around for two weeks and no reply from the MIC folks. Dr Denison replied few days ago, though.

Note: MyDaftar is an on-going initiative by the JPN. Its not something new. You check the JPN’s website for proof. The only difference is that its being held to focus on the Indian community who’s having problems with their citizenship.

The Special Implementation Taskforce on the Indian Community (Prime Minister’s Department) in cooperation with the National Registration Department has launched a nationwide campaign between Feb 19 to 26 to register and assist all undocumented Malaysian Indians secure their rightful citizenship – MY DAFTAR NATIONAL CAMPAIGN

JPN Office open during the My Daftar Campaign period.
The following JPN office is participating in the My Daftar Campaign. They are open from 9am to 1pm on Feb 19 (sat), Feb 20 (sun) and Feb 26 (sat) and from Jan 21 (mon) to 25 (fri) they are open during office hours. This is a special arragement through the Taskforce (PM Dept) and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

A little info on MyDaftar Campaign:

The Home Ministry advised Indian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to identify Malaysian Indians without birth, identification and citizenship documents for registration during the MyDaftar campaign for eight days from Feb 19.

Deputy Secretary-General (Registration and Immigration) Datuk Raja Azahar Raja Abdul Manap said Sunday the campaign would be held in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Malacca, Pahang and Johor.

He said the assistance of the NGOs was most necessary to help resolve this serious problem of a section of the Malaysian Indian community which had not had the documents for a long time.

“We do not know how many of these people are without the documents. We hope to be able to register all of them who do not have the documents,” he told reporters here.

“This is the pledge given by the Home Ministry and the National Registration Department. We will not take any action against those who have not registered their marriage or the birth of their children if they come forward during the campaign,” he said, adding that action would be taken after the campaign.

According to statistics, the ministry resolved all the 32,927 applications pertaining to the registration of these documents received between 1997 and 2006 and the 29,677 applications received between 2007 and 2009.

The MyDaftar campaign is organised by the Cabinet Committee on Indians with the National Registration Department and the Home Ministry and supported by the Information Communication and Culture Ministry. – Bernama

hi sir saya muneer dari melaka saya mempuyai masalah nama iaitu saya beragama hindutetapi nama saya nama islam macam mana nak betulkan mana saya itu

    • poobalan says:

      hi muneer,

    Hi Sir,

I’m Zach from Melaka. My mom, age 59 has a red i/c. She was born in Singapore, but her father’s from Melaka with blue IC. But he past away long time ago. During 1950’s, my mom came to Melaka with her father but without any documentation. She was schooling in Melaka since standard 1. My mom married with a Malaccan and her husband is also Malaccan with blue IC. My 3 sisters and I are also having blue IC. Can she change to blue Ic. please advise. Thank you.

    • poobalan says:

      hi Zach,

i just visited JPN for MyDaftar. you can collect the citizenship application form and submit the relevant documents (her parents ic/death cert, your father’s ic, her children birth cert and ic, passport photo 3 copies). submit the form to malacca JPN by coming sunday. she was born in singapore, but since resided here since pre-independence, there’s good chance but no guarantees.

    Dear Sir,
My mum was born in Malaysia but she is holding red ic at this moment but my father is blue ic holder. We applied for Citizenship somewhere in last year. We received a letter from JPN asking us to pay about RM300++ to get the Citizenship. Can we use this mydaftar service to get it settled. Please advise, Thank you

    • poobalan says:

      hi sivagamy,

since you already get letter from jpn to settle some payment to get the mykad, i think should just proceed with that. are you sure that the application has been approved and just waiting for you to collect the citizenship, or its just processing/application fee?

    hi,

are you a malay muslim? if yes, then the chances will be higher. if you are non-malay then very hard. may take 10-20 years. also depends on the occupation of your future husband, his nationality (easier if he is muslim from middle east, europe).

i can’t help because i don’t handle immigration services. you can go to Jabatan Imigresen, and they will easily provide you with the details. their website: http://www.imi.gov.my

    • poobalan says:

are you malaysian? JPN is right in that need to get the marriage certificate verified (not sure if by JAIS or the sudan embassy). since you have converted already, you can approach the association related to islam like perkim, jakim, etc.

PR..well being muslim won’t be difficult. just get the form from JPN and apply.

  13. Dear Sir,

I had apply for my daughters ( 5 years old) new name. I did sumbit the necesary letters from temple with valid reasons to JPN Cameron Highlands.
It has been a month but no reply eventhough I’ve been there twice to know the status.
How long this process will take? If at all, it’s unsuccesful what is the next procedure?

  19. Raj says:

    Hi Mr. Poobalan,

My wife is a Malaysian born citizen but she only has a green IC because she is an orphan who lived in the welfare home. She has her birth certificate but it does not have the nationality of the mother. Pls do advice on what to do to get the blue IC that she deserves since she is Malaysian born and raised? Thanks

    • poobalan says:

      hi,

this is a common problem as people start to realise if they have green ic. jabatan pendaftaran have their own policies which sees valid cases end up with green ic. hindraf/hrp is trying to fight against this. you can try them or also MIC’s mydaftar program.
in your case its difficult since the nationality of the mother is not stated. how about the father’s nationality?

      • Raj says:

No father stated on the BC since she is an orphan. Since now she is married to a Malaysian with a blue IC, is there anyway for her to apply for red or blue IC? What is the process? Pls do advice.. Thanks

        • poobalan says:

its more difficult if no father info. in jpn eyes, she may as well be a foreigner since got not proof that she’s malaysian. how other records like doctor report etc?

i suggest you talk to DHRRA Malaysia as they have the experience in handling many case. the link is at the sidebar of this website.

    • poobalan says:

      hi,

you have to follow up with the putrajaya jpn office. did you apply via mydaftar program or separately?

      • LOGESS says:

        VANAKAM SIR.
They apply via mydaftar program. TV News reader (Ms Latha) was help them. She done a great job for them. But after some time she mention that, no more involve in mydaftar and ask them followup with JPN office directly. When called to JPN, they said still in prosess.
Pls can get an appointment with Sir.
        Kindly advice…….
