HINDRAF supports Bangsa Malaysia

BUTTERWORTH: The Government should implement the Bangsa Malaysia concept to give equal opportunities to all Malaysians, Hindu Rights Action Front national co-ordinator R.S. Thanenthiran said. He said the concept, which recognised a citizen not by his colour, religion or his cultural background, could help promote greater unity.

“We should give the Bangsa Malaysia concept a chance. Political parties should no longer be race-based. “Politicians should also stop using racial and religious sentiments that could disunite the people,” he said yesterday.

On Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said it was important for Malaysians to identify themselves as Bangsa Malaysia and not by their race.

Thanenthiran also called on Indian youths to continue using tolerance, patience, love and peace in their approach to resolve problems.

“Similarly, we wish the Government will accept our requests to sit down and talk amicably about Hindraf’s concerns,” he said.

From a scenario where bloggers were either stupid or bored housewives, it has become a fashionable “in” thing. Ex menteri besars, ex prime minister, election losers,  election winners,  political wannabes, all have taken the plunge. But  its not easy to blog. We have seen how Ali Rustam cheated by saying his blog had problem when in fact he blocked all comments on his posting. And the replies Toyo got for his postings. Now, MIC is planning to do the same! God bless them.

MIC should be informed that having blogs is not the issues, but how the media is used, the honesty and the willingness to accept criticism. A domain name is not a guarantee of winning back the lost respect and name.

First, MIC needs to update its website. Its latest news (when i wrote this piece) was dated 3rd March.

As for blogging, I hope it does not backfire and totally humiliate MIC in cyberspace. They must remember that they can’t bully nor intimidate anyone in cyberspace. Selective comment approval also will be easily exposed.

Samy should try to get some prominent bloggers to give they leaders a thorough course on blogging. Unfortunately, all the prominent bloggers seems to be pro-Malaysian and anti-BN. They have MIC leaders like Murugesan and Kamalanathan who blog, so should ask these guys to knock some sense into Samy’s plans before it becomes an utter disaster. Of course, I’m available as well 🙂

Or would they make use of third persons to run blogs on their behalf?

Err..before going on to cyberspace, it would be great if MIC organises language courses for its elected reps, branch and division heads! Let them communicate well in real world before venturing into cyberworld. » Read more: goblok, oops go blog MIC

Aid for ISA families

Selangor government takes the first step to snub federal government action by planning to provide aid for families of ISA detainees who are from Selangor. Possibly the case of  YB Manoharan is one of the strong reasons for this move. Will the other states follow suit?

Also heard that Bar Council also had started a fund for the family of detained lawyer (4 of the  Hindraf leaders).

The Selangor government will provide financial and welfare assistance to families of those held under the Internal Security Act (ISA), which allows detention without trial.
Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said these measures would be taken up by the state government to help the wives and children of these detainees to ease their burden during the difficult period.  He added that his government will look into bearing the travelling costs for families to visit the detention camp every week.  At the same time, he said that children of the detainees may apply for state government scholarships to further their studies.  The wives too will be encouraged to look into various ways to become involved in businesses to help them earn a living, he said.  “Life can be difficult for them but they must continue to fight,” he said after receiving a memorandum from the Abolish ISA Movement (GMI) today.

DAP state assemblyperson M Manoharan is one of about 70 ISA detainees being held presently at the Kamunting detention centre.

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will provide scholarships to the children of 16 people from the state who have been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA). It will also provide business opportunities to their wives.  Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the state government would cover the cost of travel for families visiting those under detention.

I AM a founder member of the DAP and have been struggling for Malaysians since the party’s formation in 1966. I joined the late Devan Nair, Dr Chen Man Hin, Lim Kit Siang and Liew Ah Kim to found DAP but left the party for 14 years following differences with the leadership. I rejoined in 2000.

I served as state assemblyman for the then Rasah state seat from 1974 to 1978, have lost several elections as both a DAP candidate and an independent, and now serve as Seremban MP on a DAP ticket.

Cameron Highlands Day 1 at Cameron Valley and Smokehouse Hotel

Cameron Highlands beckoned again. I was there in early April and managed to visit Sungai Palas Boh Tea Centre. Last week, I had more time to go around since it was a mini vacation. Then wanted to get her hands on strawberry milkshake, so off we went to Cameron Highlands.

As usual, I took the Simpang Pulai exit. Its about 50++km from the toll exit to Equatorial, and takes slightly more than an hour’s drive.

Our first stop was just before Equatorial Hotel. We stopped at Cameron Valley Tea Shop. I had tea (RM3!) and we took some pictures of the tea plantation there. Nothing great there. The lady at the counter was not cheerful nor tourist-friendly enough (err…maybe we didn’t look like one!). All my questions received one line answers. Perhaps need to send them for training – how to promote the business and Cameron Highlands.
