Hmm…as usual, i'm confused. just because other religions are not the official religion (correct term is "religion of the federation" ?), we can't allocate some resources? Why not for the sake of unity make some changes to the relevant acts and constitutions? i mean if we can bulldoze things like national service, water bill, etc, surely the people's reps can do this as well. we are talking about upholding rukunegara (kepercayaan kepada tuhan – believe in god), maybe that can be the supporting point.
in the end, it is "hendak seribu daya, tak nak seribu dalih – where there is will, there is a way".

The government will look into the request to set up a Non-Muslim Affairs Department under the Prime Minister's Department. "We have the Islamic Affairs Department in the PM's Department because Islam is our official religion," he told reporters in the Parliament lobby today. He was responding to the request by a coalition of Indian NGOs for the government to set up a Non-Muslim Affairs Department to handle sensitive issues such as conversions and temple demolitions. However, Najib stressed that the government is "very concerned" with the Indian community's plight especially issues pertaining to places of worship. |
Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said the PM's Department does not have such a department because other religions are not the official religion of the country.
PAS has a non-Muslim supporters club but Najib refuses to set up non Muslim affairs dept, so who is more egalitarian ?
So Vijay Kumar you have resumed your attacks on Najib again ? This is such an old and outdated news. So I suggest the next time you start your cyber attacks on Najib do some home work la first. FYI Devamany is the deputy Minister in charge of Indian Affairs in the PM department.
And also please do check the role of PAS Supporters’ Club. It has no other role than play the cheerleader role.
If you intend to destroy Najib’s image and boost up PR’s support, you gotta try harder than this mate.
What’s next ? A letter to Mkini attacking Najib ? You are pretty predictable arent you?
@Killer,
@ Killer , firstly sorry for the late reply, just saw this as the alert was languishing in my spam folder.
Since when did stating ones opinion is considered a cyber attack ? that too by a brave soul who hides behind the moniker “killer”.
If you are talking about this piece of mine http://m.malaysiakini.com/letters/107719
The malaysiakini version is edited and mild, read the full unedited version here http://mt.m2day.org/2008/content/view/23385/84/
Go ahead and rebut it, write to MT or malaysiakini giving your points as to why you disagree, not lurk in some corner taking potshots without having the guts to even use your real name.
Ratifying PAS supporters club as a wing is their way of thanking non-Muslims for their support in the last elections, while there are many points of contention it is still evolving, PAS also fielded a Hindu Woman candidate Ms.Kumutha, which is more than I can say for myopic BN party’s especially the race based ones, who think the act of being born a certain ethnicity is some sort of achievement.
Thanks for highlighting the point that SK Devamany is in charge of Indian affairs, but the topic discussed here is about establishing a non-Muslim affairs dept, which is wider in scope than merely Indian affairs.
Establishing such a dept would conform to the spirit of article 11 of the federal constitution, though Islam is the religion of the Federation, Article 11 provides that every person has the right to profess and practice his own religion.
This is even more relevant if seen in context to an amendment to the constitution in 1988 to article 121(1A).
Article 121(1A) states that the High Courts and inferior courts shall have no jurisdiction in respect of any matter within the jurisdiction of the Syariah Courts.
In December 2007 ,Opposition leader Lim Kit Siang has called on Gerakan and MIC leaders to propose at the Cabinet meeting that Article 121 (1A) of the Constitution be amended in view of the controversies relating to the burial of Muslim converts.
There was hardly a whimper out of MIC.
For all to get justice the best thing would be to repeal this article, this seems unlikely, so the next best course of action would be to set up a non Muslim affairs dept to mediate, as Poobalan said “hendak seribu daya, tak nak seribu dalih – where there is will, there is a way”. I quite agree with him.
The only treasure for human is education but seems very racist monopolisation in athat evenue, who has the guts to ask more than basic education also without andy replies for improvement, damned racist m’sia
