I was surprised to read that Raja Petra was allowed to attend the court case today, but so far none of the 5 detainees were allowed to do so. I’m sure there are loads of reports on HINDRAF and its leaders, don’t tell me not even one had been heard in court till now. I remember Manoharan’s appeal to represent himself (he’s a lawyer) in a case was also rejected. What does this mean? Raja Petra is not as dangerous as the HINDRAf 5?

Poobalan, I am surprised that you are surprised. By now you should have known that no one cares for the HINDRAF 5 and the govt knows it. That is why the released Tan and Teresa. They know that PR back-stabbed HINDRAF and took them for a ride to get their votes….

Which means the attempts by MIC to free Hindraf 5 is also a wayang kulit? And are you saying there are lots of people who care for RPK? From I what I understand, this is discrimination, because the government decides not based on equality, but on its on whims. Or am i missing something?

Welcome to the world of realpolitik Poobalan…

As for MIC, HINDRAF is the cause of the party’s destruction at the GE and it goes without saying that MIC’s fight to get them released is just one of the many issues on their agenda. Let’s not kid ourselves to think that this issue is keeping Samy awake at night.

The only way a detainee get released from ISA if there is an non-partisan outrage from the cross-section of the society and the international community. That’s why Teresa and Tan was released. You probably would have noticed that there was less uproar over RPK’s detention and you can draw your own conclusion on that issue.

The thing here is that neither BN nor PR parties are united in their desire to get these HINDRAF 5 freed. While the reaction of BN parties are understandable, the lukewarm response of PR is unforgivable after the way they milked the Indian votes during GE.

Having said that, I think there is only one way the HINDRAF 5 will get released. That’s thru MIC’s sustained efforts. I had been saying this for months that any drama from HINDRAF supporters to get these 5 released will only make the situation worse. But I expect the HINDRAF 4 to get released before Deepavali. But Utahya unlikely to be freed.

the reason is simple …. umno knew lots of ‘facts’ will be revealed by the daring H5 which will only bring damage to umno on top of current anti-ISA sentiments among lay people. badawi has enough damage control to do …

As for MIC’s rescue attempt… it’s known that only this effort could save them face from overwhelming hatred and embrassement among lay people. It would be a win-win situation for MIC .
