MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu today launched a stinging attack against a non-governmental organisation, the Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF), which claimed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government had done little to address the woes of the Malaysian Indian community over the last 50 years.
“I must state here that if there is anything that affects the Indian community, the MIC will be there to fight it out even when we are partners of the Barisan Nasional. To me, I have never remained idle and I don’t waste time,†Samy Vellu, who is also Works Minister, told Bernama today.
The MIC supremo was asked to comment on a 18-point memorandum by HINDRAF, which was handed to the Prime Minister’s office last Sunday by the organisation’s chairman P. Waytha Moorthy, secretary V.K Regu and its legal adviser P. Uthayakumar.
Apart from stating that the Indian community was marginalised by the BN government, in the memorandum, HINDRAF also wanted an end to special privileges given to Malays. The memorandum also took a dig at Umno asking the largest political party in the country to “stop playing politics” through the “mandore†(supervisor) system by dishing out aid to the Indian community on a piecemeal basis.

Hindraf is doing a great job addressing the problems faced by indians and bringing in to attention to the government. Politicians who have got limited capabilities should just shut up and give way to NGO’s who are not bound to anyone.. Politicians can’t do much as they must agree to their boss to remain in their post. SO

Aiyo…no end to the his chronicles. Just a curiosity after reading his “stinging Attack”…Tax paying Indians who are contributing to nation building are still sending their children to miserable dilapitated schools, shophouse schools, etc, and these are “Kebangsaan” schools mind you. Maybe MIC should explain to the parents of these unfortunate children why is it that they being honest and hard working citizens of the country who voted for the current ruling party are getting the raw end of the deal. Also maybe MIC should explain to all indians of this country why are these schools having funding issues with the government (government that they elected) despite being “Kebangsaan” schools.
Now we have some people with b@#$s to address issues that have been plaguing our community for decades. Kindly refrain from disturbing them as they are practicing their rights as citizens of this country just as you. Not only are they practicing it but they are actually educating the indians here of their rights which they were ignorant of all this while, rights which MIC never taught the indians here. It would be very unwise to hog every indian issue in the country and maybe sometimes it would be wise to give other knowledgable and capable people a chance to contribute something to the community. We are a democracy and that means we should not be dictated.

I have been hearing people of giving support and says we support this and that. But that’s not the real support. We should help out HINDRAF in creating awareness among our community on their rights as a Malaysian Citizen. In order to create the awareness, my friends and I have started to hand out copies of the Memorandum sent by Mr. Uthayakumar to the Prime Minister to the Indians out there in public. I hope those reading this comment would start doing that too including MP. Please do it. It could be our contribution to this good deed by HINDRAF.
Yes Dalapathi, there are many more people that are unaware of the struggle by Hindraf and other individuals due to lack of news in media and also lack of access to internet. we can start by educating our family and friends. even so called university graduates or professionals sometime are living under coconut shell, oblivious to whatever happening around them, what more with those in villages or rural areas.

The recent Bersih protest has tarnished the nation’s stand on democracy and the world is watching on the next course of action by the goverment. Meaning to say, after the reckless conduct which had a broadway screening on the news (international), the Malaise-an goverment will spare the rods for the next protest, supposedly to show that the democracy prevails here.
Hence, this is the best timing, judging by years of nuisance cover-ups and conduct, to march the streets to extend our support the group.
Rather than taking the struggle to the streets on a calm occasion where you coud be sighted for unlawful assembly and have chemical sprayed-on, it is best to do it while the eyes are on the nation.
Go for it….if not now, when?

The other day when I attended the meeting in Banting, there were thousands of Indians. Some looked like gangsters, some too young , some too old, girls , mothers, rich and poor. But for the first time , I saw ONE LOVE, ONE SPIRIT, ONE DETERMINATION.

To tell you the truth, I had never been interested in the issue of INDIAN’s in M’sia until I knew there was a force called “HINDRAF”. Now almost everyday I talk about them and the issues our community are facing. I keep my self updated and also make sure all my friends & family are aware of it.

Because, if it’s not now then when are we going to fight for our vanishing right??? We have been marginalised up to the extend our rights is been threaten. Tomorrow is not a choice; it’s what we have done today to make our ppl aware about HINDRAF’s objective !!
Let’s not waste our time talking about someone who has spend thousands on his “hair make over” and stealing our life time savings…u know who I meant!! He is not even worth a penny and we all know that. There is a say ” Empty vessels makes more noise”. Let him say what he wants to say. Dear fellow Malaysians,
If HINDRAF can garner enough support from the Malaysian Indians captains of industry and see to it that the estate dwellers are given opportunities to improve their lot and escape slavery from there, chances are that the poverty levels will be reduced from amongst the Indians living here in Malaysia.
I speak Tamil but have yet to learn how to read or write the beautiful language.
Tamil needs to be spoken as it should be and I see the majority of Malaysian Indians speak ‘cinema Tamil’ which is at times crude and crass to the ear.
Tamil culture and Tamil literature needs to be given a revival here in Malaysia itself and more classes be provided by bodies such as HINDRAF and the Malaysian Hindu Sangam to inculcate a resurgence in the appreciation of Tamil to all Malaysians.
HINDRAF needs to also look into the root causes as to why the Malaysian Indians are facing unnecessary problems like the demolition of illegally built temples.
HINDRAF must not wait for the MIC or PPP to do things for the Malaysian Indian population.
When HINDRAF starts carrying out productive and positive programs to upgrade the lives of the Malaysian Indians through whatever means, slowly but surely the nation will start to take notice and HINDRAF might even have a political base to take over from the rhetoric spewing MIC.
Actions speak louder than words.
Ignore the castigations of Samy Vellu and go achieve these short term goals to improve the Malaysian Indians lot.
Once you achieve a certain level of accomplishments, slowly but surely your aspirations to help improve the lives of your fellow Malaysian Indians will be a shining beacon of excellence that will give credence to your lot than just make inroads here online.
This is my personal viewpoints and meant to inspire the leaders of HINDRAF to get their priorities right.
Start small and end up big instead of going the demonstrations and protests way. Serves no purpose but to paint yourselves as anti-peace and troublemakers which I surely hope HINDRAF is not!
Get to the root of Indians lack of progress which goes back to the basic Indian households.
Most waste away their days and nights watching Tamil movies and emulate the bad instead of the good that is portrayed in such movies.
Listen to how the Malaysian Indian youth speak and act. Does it not remind you of Tamil movie scripts?
We need to see progress amongst the Indians of Malaysia. HINDRAF can help them out if the leaders of HINDRAF practice what they speak of..which is to improve the lives of the Malaysian Indians.

I view HINDRAF as a complementing function. without them, MIC will still be a slow, lumbering, relaxed entity going on autodrive. but now, it is forced into hyperdrive (or damage control) and use HINDRAF as an excuse to get more from the govt.
Hey, maybe Hindraf was set up by MIC themselves! It would be a master stroke. create an enemy and then ask for reinforcement to win back the community.

Think more logically folks…HINDRAF is just using the Indian community’s feeling for political purposes. If you want to help Indians, please join with all Indian organizations like MIC, MHS, YSS and others and show an united front to the others.
If they really want to help Indians, they should do some CONCRETE and not carry out some silly stunts like some Tamil movies.
To be frank I don’t trust these fellows. If they want temples not to be demolished then be PRO-ACTIVE and not just be some heroes and create a scene when the bulldozers come to demolish the illegal temples.
The population of Indians is small (7%) so we must remain united. Don’t carry out stunts like the trillion dollar suits and other serial like dramas that will do nothing to help us.

i agree with your comments about hindraf’s role. probably HINDRAF have their own plans. start with temple and progress to other issues. one thing for sure, they are the hottest topic in the indian community as of today.
the street demo/memo handing over thing won’t last for long.
i think the indian man on the street support hindraf more for the inefficiencies and failure of MIC as compared to fighting for rights. they may look at Hindraf as an alternative (viable one). As long as it is not “hangat – hangat tahi ayam”, the community may support them.
