vanakam sir, i just finished my SPM in (2010). i got spm A in math, B+ in moral 4C+in bio, chemistry,Add Math ,Sejarah ,2d in physic ,english ..i want ask some question sir, i have interest to continue my further studies as “Software Engineer “….Sir ,pls let me know what i must do now N which courses i need to take first ..??? OR its better i go 4 form 6.!!
I have some financial problem too ..
    10Q very much sir..

      1. i hope you know what is software engineering.

      2. i suggest you resit english to get at least C, good for your future.

      3. to study IT, english is very important as nearly all information you learn is in english.

      4. since you have minimum 5 credits, you can take up foundation in science or do a-levels and then proceed to degree in software engineering. you should go for the reputable colleges so that can learn alot. if you feel the cost to do foundation or a-levels is high, then you can take form 6 (cheaper, harder, a bit longer time) and later try apply government uni or still can go to private college to do degree. you can also do a diploma and then proceed to degree, but i will suggest take foundation and do degree (slightly shorter time, can save up to 1 year).

      5. please read number 3 above again! 🙂

hi vanakam sir,i need ur help 4 my study sir…i finish my SPM (2007) n never continue my study n i going for work because my family situation like that sir….nw i like to continue my study as of bachelor of buisness management sir….bt i worried if i continue this study did i get job and i fine a goverment college….cn i have a goverment college name….and please some idea

    • poobalan says:

      hi geetha,

first thing: if you want to a bachelor degree, you should minimum 5 credits to enrol in foundation program, or do pre-u program (stpm/a-levels/cpu/sam etc).

second: if you don’t have 5 credits, but have at least 3 credits, then you can do a diploma.

third. to study in a “govt college” (IPTA), you have to apply via UPU (but its closed already. so try next year). another option is to study distance learning/part time (offered by upm, um, ukm, utm etc). this is more suitable if you are working.

fourth: you can also consider studying in non-govt places (IPTS). which is more expensive that govt.

since it has been four years now, what have you been doing? working anywhere? helping out at home?

  6. Kumar says:

    Vanakkam Sir,
I enrolled in Tunku Abdul Rahman College in year 2003 for the course Diploma in Electronic Engineering. I get the assistance from PTPTN for the course. However, I didn’t complete the studies due to several reasons.
Now, I m doing part time Degree in a private University. The University that I m studying now offer PTPTN for students. I asked the PTPTN staff whether can apply or not. They said a student must complete the Diploma program in order to get the loan for the Degree.
Do I have any other options for financial assistance in order to complete my Degree???

  7. confused says:

    Hello sir,

I just recently sat for my spm examination. My ambition is to be a doctor. But now, I’m very confused whether I should go for foundation in science and then continue with my degree or go for stpm. But I’m also financially down. Which would be a better choice?

    • poobalan says:

if finance is a problem, you better think hard. you are talking about rm500,000 or more worth of study. If you take STPM, you need 4As nothing less. if you go for foundation in IPTS and then to local/foreign uni, you must find your own resources for finance. rarely can you get a scholarship, while PTPTN will cover a fraction of the cost (for local ipts only). if your SPM result is excellent, you can apply JPA scholarship.

  8. Athirah says:

    Hello sir,

I’m a first year medical student of UiTM. Previously, I was a matriculation student. Can I pursue medicine abroad? I mean, is there any chance of studying abroad? Some of my friends said, JPA will never sponsor to study abroad, but some said, during our second year, JPA will sponsor? If it’s true, how can I apply? Could you please tell me more about scholarship to study medicine abroad.

    • poobalan says:

i never heard jpa sponsoring students of local uni to go overseas for medic. there’s loan for those who already doing medic overseas. as for scholarship, its the JPA scholarship which is open for SPM leavers. but this year, i’m not sure if will be open for spm leavers because some changes were announced last year.

  9. logenthiran says:

Hai sir. I have sat for my spm last year 2011 batch. I have just gotten my results and I manage to score 5A+ 3B+ and 2B sir. A+ in maths, add maths, english, sejarah, moral. B+ in physics, bio, accounts. B in bm, and chem. Sir it is my ambition to become an acturial scientist. But now i manage to score only 5A’s and i have some financial problems. I need scholarship and a suggestion of yours if there is any other courses that i can do better. I have a very high interest in maths and history. At the same time im looking forward for a scholarship in your website. So sir i need your help in picking up the right choice. I hope to get a favour reply from you sir. Thank you sir. Have a nice day……..

    • poobalan says:

as you may have realised, 5As means most scholarships are out of reach. some ask for minimum 6As, 7As, 8As and even 9As. some don’t look at the As but the student’s situation. you can try applying for those types.

you can consider form 6 as one option. after form 6 you can still decide on career, and whether to pursue in IPTA or IPTS.

maths based courses in IPTA/IPTS: maths, statistics, actuarial science, industrial maths, computer maths. you can also consider engineering and science since your science subjects are Bs.

for history: history, social science, sociology, law, literature, are among the common options.

    vanakam sir,
sir if i want to do american degree program, can i apply ptptn and if can which tahap pengajian should i choose?

    • poobalan says:

pls check with your college. if i’m not mistaken, adtp can’t apply unless your college has registered the program with ptptn.
