Samy hits back at HINDRAF on memorandum

Samy Vellu hits back at Hindu Rights Action Force

PUTRAJAYA, FRI:

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu today launched a stinging attack against a non-governmental organisation, the Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF), which claimed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government had done little to address the woes of the Malaysian Indian community over the last 50 years.

“I must state here that if there is anything that affects the Indian community, the MIC will be there to fight it out even when we are partners of the Barisan Nasional. To me, I have never remained idle and I don’t waste time,Ć¢ā‚¬Ā Samy Vellu, who is also Works Minister, told Bernama today.

The MIC supremo was asked to comment on a 18-point memorandum by HINDRAF, which was handed to the Prime Minister’s office last Sunday by the organisation’s chairman P. Waytha Moorthy, secretary V.K Regu and its legal adviser P. Uthayakumar.

Apart from stating that the Indian community was marginalised by the BN government, in the memorandum, HINDRAF also wanted an end to special privileges given to Malays. The memorandum also took a dig at Umno asking the largest political party in the country to “stop playing politics” through the “mandoreĆ¢ā‚¬Ā (supervisor) system by dishing out aid to the Indian community on a piecemeal basis.

1. Whether I am happy or sad does not depend on Indians’ unity but Indians’ attitude. Just being united is meaningless
unless it is for a good cause and to make positive change. I certainly don’t think Indians have suddenly become united now. If you don’t believe me, just wait for the next temple thiruvilla and see how many fights and choppings take place. This unity will not last as the underlaying factor is not motivated by an attitudal change but just an outpouring of emotion. What HINDRAF has given Indians is just a convenient outlet and scapegoat for their failures and frustrations.

2. 30% non-Malay shares given to Malays ? This is not really true and only applicable in certain specific segments. Let’s say for argument’s sake that this is true. This is certainly not just an Indian issue but also affects the Chinese and others too. What did the Chinese do ? Sit down or cry or take the street ? What they did was find a way around it or work harder. That’s why they are so succesful. Is this fair ? Well, while I support helping poor Malays but granting 30% of shares outright would not help people to learn the value of hardwork. I believe in teaching people to fish than catching the fish and serving it on a silver platter for them.

The point is this is a strategic issue that would not be solved by taking the street. We need to understand that such policies do not have to stop us from succeeding.

3. Straight A students cannot get a place in university ? Come on are you joking ? Please give me examples and don’t just make empty and unsubstianted claims.

4. Temple demolition : I agree the authorities need to be more sensitive in temple issues. But put yourself into their shoes. Look at the irresponsbile way our people are building temples. They just build temples when and where they wish.

I am angry when some Indian moron build temple under a bridge, on road side, near a drain, etc. This is a great disrespect to Hinduism. The Malays might not respect our temples as they are not Hindus. But the Hindus who build illegal temples and without following the religious procuedures have no excuse for insulting the religion. We have about only 9700 schools (all languages, both primary and secondary) in the country catering for more than 5 million students. Yet have more than 25,000 temples just for about 2 million Indians. Does this make sense ? This is exactly why we are behind the Chinese.

I am also furious at the irresponsible Indians who refused to relocate the temples after getting notices from authorities. Don’t you think these Hindus are committing sins by their inaction.

Every temple that was demolished was ILLEGAL. Every temple which was demolished was given numerous notices to move but our people refused to do so. A good example is the Kg Jawa case. What do you have to say about this ?

Can you or HINDRAF give proof that legal temples were destroyed ?

When someone resorts to personal attacks it goes to show that the person has run out of ideas. I hope that’s not the case here. In any case I have a very thick skin and not someone easily intimidated by thuggish talks.

Anyway who told you that Indians’ univ quota was 60% in 80s ? HINDRAF ? And you people actually believe this ? It means Indians had 60% and the Chinese and Malays the balance 40%. Wake up lah, even you want to make up lies, please create more believable lies lah.

I very much doubt we even had 10% of the places in the 80s. And that was because Samy used to go to each and very Uni and beg the VCs. Now thanks to our DAP and PKR friends’ insistance of meritocracy, we have been burned. Don’t blame MIC for this blame Opposition.

And to asnwer your silly question on why Indians always comparing themselves with tigers and lions. Actually I have no idea since Hinduism is actually is very much a non-violent and vegetarian religion. Perhaps it is the influence of “Captain” Vijayakanth….??

Dear Indian,

Indians usually compare themselves with tigers n lions bcos of the brave and daring character of these animals. Indians proved this on the 25th Nov. Although chinese are the 2nd largest community in this country, they still have no guts to do that. did i answer ur question Indian? and to u Killer, do u know y chinese never any steps to do something like what we did on the 25th nov? bcos to them Money is 2nd God. To us,Indians, dignity and our rights are much more important.

Dear Killer,
lets talk facts. in here , lets give a vote. just ask around how many of us support Hindraf n how many dont ( only for Indians ) If there are more MIC supporter or more people dont support Hindraf, i promise i will leave but if vice versa, can u promise to keep ur mouth shut n stop sending ur comments here? im willing to take this challenge. to rest of the people here. if u support Hindraf, just type i support hindraf. if not just type i dont support hindraf.

As for the Chinese person’s letter, it has good advices though some of the details are
incorrect.

HINDRAF supporters, definitely changing our govt and leaders will change our fortune…for WORSE ! To improve ourselves we need to change our mindset first. You can vote the Opposition but I can tell us that at the very best you can only hope to reduce BN’s 2/3 majority. Also remember that the Opposition’s main objective is meritocracy. Do you think Indians will stand a chance against Chinese in a level playing field ?

Indian Blood :

This statement is highly insulting to our Chinese brothers and sisters – it is a racist statement. Please do not accuse the Chinese of being cowards. The bravery of the Chinese had been many times demonstarted in the history not only in China but also in Malaysia (there are more Chinese recipients of SP and PGB bravery awards than Indians).

The Chinese have no time for stupid Kollywood dramas ala Vijayakanth’s movies. They are a lot smarter than us that’s why they are able to achieve success without resorting to stunts like this and NOT because they are cowards.

As for the support for HINDRAF you can do whatever you like, please go ahead. In any case I will continue to speak up and you have no right to stop me.

Yes, the young generation they one must change their mindset, our society shouldn’t not depend from individual or politician group

Correct me if it wrong…. Where all our money going I mean the temple money because it is our money

I am not against the GOD but logical talking it is our prays that reach to the GOD not our money for example how much that one person will spend in one year for the prays don’t forget some special prays which cost a lot of money.

If we can control the cash flow and bring a concept where temple need adopted Tamil school and help the school with financial for example 20 temple adopted one Tamil poor school of cos we make the changes .

Like the Perumal temple at Klang which call the South-east Asia Triputiee Kuil and if you see at opposite of the temple where Chinese school which 5 storey high with indoor swinging pool.

You see brother this what I mean … we want make sure that our money are better use to us back.

Some of you are completely flat in your support, either by insisting “A is great regardless”, or “B is worst regardless”..when in actual fact, statistics play a greater role and none could be spared from this, including Hindraf, govt., MIC etc..
Hindraf could possibly be wrong in some of their claims, then it’s the govt.’s obligation to make them more transparent for the ppl to understand better.
It’s not that MIC has done nothing, of course to certain extent we’ve to agree that without MIC, things wd have been more difficult…but that’s the same with UMNO/MCA… However, it’s incorrect to put this as an excuse for irregularities such as Maika shares handling etc.
We often hear “we r fighting for this/that” from MIC chief when some of those things shd have been clarified/gazetted long back..
It’s not wrong for ppl to question MIC and it’s chief on their credibility…same applies to the questions raised to Hindraf..
Key thing is that one shd not blindly support or in-against of any arguments just like that…it’s more like the “breaking the ranks” term used in Parliament for u to always go against your conscience.
Those againsting Hindraf completely, don’t u see a single point at all from them that makes sense?…and those who hate MIC/govt…dun’t you see any good thing at all in them..
I believe govt. has done reasonably great things for Malaysians as a whole, statistically they may be missing some here and there…but the situation could worsen after Badawi era…..one of the worries Hindraf has posted on Indians future..

BTW, i dun have the data..maybe one of you has that..it was reported few years back that one straightA Indian student failed to get medicine seat in local uni and he was completely stunned..until badawi intervened if not mistaken and he got in eventually….such situations shd not arise as there shd have been a right process to handle things correctly…not sure if this is the case one of u mentioned earlier in the blog.

I’m not sure how worse Indians’ situation into university can become with govt.’s or opposition’s Meritocracy system. As long as it’s a true meritocracy system, we’ll have to accept that..

Dear YAB Datuk Seri Najib

What do expect me to do ? My name ,unfortunately, is not Abdullah Badawi.

In any case, this forum is not meant to discuss national political issues but Indian related matters. I am sure that you will find many other forums/blogs to discuss such “shocking” discovery.

Any way, I have no idea why these people are registered as voters. Funnily one of these voters was a Haji and that should provide a clue to you right ? Obviously looking at their old IC number given in the SPR’s web site, these people are not kids but older adults. I have no idea why they have such IC numbers but I am sure if these people are phantom voters, the Opposition would have seized this issue and organized yet another massive rally.

My guess is that there is an innocent explanantion for this. I will ask around with people who know such things. And I will share my finding.

However having been involved in a several elections as a (non-political)observor I can offer you the below information. Many people do not know this fact and they are being misled by the Opposition regarding the so called “phantom voters”.

In every election there are reps from both sides sitting in the voting centers. If there is a voter, he /she has to produce the IC which checked against the voters’ registeration before he/she allowed to vote. The reps easily can catch “fake” or “phantom” voters by monitoring the voters and the final result. The only thing the Opps so far managed to raise a stink about is the postal vote, which I agree can be manipulated, through our dear Opps yet to produce any evidence despite having access to these voting slips.

I like your balanced and sensible approach and respect you for that. I would agree with most of your points too. Just wish that more people would be as sensible and logical as you are.

Let me clarify some of those questions you had raised regarding the medical student. There are many seminars held by many praise-worthy groups such as the SMC and others for those students applying for universities after their exams. I would strongly suggest Indian students attend this seminar before they apply.

Applying for a university is not a straightforward matter and you need to strategize it well. You must understand the competition and criteria for each of the courses and your own result before you select the right course. There is no point you apply for medicine when you only have 5Bs for example. This is what I call as plain stupid. Even during my time getting a place to pursue medicine was minimum of 4As and 1B for Indians and I think it was 5As for the Chinese. Another thing with Malaysian public universities is that the priority is given for those from lower income and urban areas. So students with the same result but with poorer background tend outdo the ones from rich, urban families.

I don’t remember any Indians getting 5As fail to land a place in Uni but I do know some Chinese didn’t. But you need to read such news items carefully as there is so much disinformation floating around. Usually what happens is some joker with 3 or 4As with 1 or 2Cs will apply and when get rejected will make a big issue out of it. Normally those people will be offered another course, it is not that they were totally fail to land a place. I can tell you with 100% certainty is that no Indians with 5As will fail to get a medical seat unless there are some serious underlying issues.

You see the dilemma we face is that we are not ready for meritocracy despite our claims to the contrary. If the Uni places are based on merits, we will have even lesser Indians. For us we still need the quota system but we need to work behind the scene like MIC otherwise the Chinese will get upset if they come to know. For all that BS that Lim Kit Siang says about helping Indians, he will be the first to jump and protest if we Indians are to be allocated special quota.

I am more interested in helping the poor and disadvanted people doesn’t matter which race they are from. But most of my social work has been for Indians. I have been doing this for many many years and I know what is the reality of the socio-economic situation of the Indians and other races.

I know exactly who had been contributing positively and who had been just talking.

I am not a MIC supporter nor a member but by killing MIC the Indian community has nothing to gain but a lot to lose. It doesn’t matter who is helping the community, we should support and applaud them. But this negative habit of undermining MIC and Samy Vellu will only affect Indians.

Perhaps someone can tell me who has contributed more than MIC/SV to the Indian community ? People keep harping about MIC’s failures and their so-called betrayal but no one seems to be talking specifics.

Would anyone or HINDRAF supporters here care to debate with me on this matter ? Anyone who can offer proof on how Samy Vellu sold off Indians’ right to UMNO ? Any takers ? Anyone with guts to take on me ?

Hi, agreed that with pure meritocracy, Chinese will be the winners as that’s what the STPM’s reality is, but dun quite think Indians wd lose more compared to the current situation we’re in. It’ll be more of Chinese replacing the Bumis…as for the Indians they will feel more confident getting into Form6 that great results will get them place. That confidence is not there today bcoz entry criteria is a bit grey and parents dun quite encourage Form6.

MIC is the only party available that could help Indians in various sectors, so they’d surely be in the lead regardless as there’s possibly no comparing element available. Whether what they’ve done so far is sufficient/justified is another different chapter.. Could someone else other than the current MIC chief have done better…probably yes&no but not debatable bcoz that someone is NA or will not be made available that soon….
However, our MIC chief is not very very bad afterall…he holds on to the pressure and yet gets his views passed/discussed and succeeded to certain extent..We’ve to remember too that’s it’s one person against many in the cabinet…so it’ll be good as long as critical/non-individual items such as temples/education is amicably resolved…
Indians in general hv to be self-sufficient, except for the hard core poor where MICs help cld be critical.

It is purely academic if there will be more Indians will be accepted into the public uni if the system is purely meritocracy. You could be right, but in my opinion we will lose out more. The reason is simple. You see most of the best bumis are sent overseas and that’s why we don’t see Malays in the Form 6 or public unis. If this were to stop (sending the brightest bumis overseas), then we will be bigger losers as we need to compete with the best of bumis for local public uni places.

It is NOT true that good Indians student can’t gain admission into local unis.I am very sure that most Indian students will get a public uni place (unlike the Chinese). The only problem is getting the course they wanted. You don’t have to believe me on this but talk to those Indian organisations involved in educations such as SMC to understand the real situation.

Indians certainly need help from the govt but we need to be realistic on the country’s socioeconomic and political situation. We also need to understand that any effort to challenge the NEP and the Malay special rights will never get anywhere. What we need is some specific help from the govt. We are proud and capable people and can stand on our own, unlike the bumis who need subsidies and various kind of help to support them.

What we need is simple really.

1. The community to be united. This means the more successful members or the society help the poorer segment. This is where we lag severely and this is how the Chinese have succeeded while we failed.

2. Focus on education. Channel our efforts and money into education. Make education our No 1 priority.

3. Reduce the pre-occupation with cinema and temples : I am a Hindu and my knowledge of the religion is certainly better than 90 % of the Malaysian Hindus. But I don’t get carried away in my efforts to be a pious person. It really surprises me how much effort and money that our community puts into the religion and temples. Most of our practices today are in fact against the teaching of Hinduism and centers on cultural than religion. I also have to say this…Tamil movies are RUBBISH and they are the poison that killing our youths. Don’t believe me ? Please talk to any teachers.

4. Special assistance from govt :
– Increase in intake of govt servants (Chinese quota give to Indians as they are not interested)
– All Tamil schools fully aided
– Special Fund for Loans to Indian businessmen
– Class F contracts to Indian businessman (8%) – this is tough, but we can try
– Increased Uni places to Indians (min 8%)

What’s your point ? You don’t want the additional holidays ? When the govt don’t do, you say Indians are margainalised, and when do something you say it is “pancing undi”….bro..make up your mind.

BTW, I don’t remember HINDRAF making any demands about Thaipusam holidays. If if they did, it is the MIC who got it right ?

Ponggal and Thaipusam has always been a big deal in Malaysia for Indians, for reasons that escapes me. But that doesn’t mean that they are unimportant, there are a lot of my friends who take these 2 days very seriously.

Otherwise we won’t have holidays for Thaipusam in some of the states right ?

Dear AK47

Interesting choice of name…perhaps you had been rather influenced by all these Tamil movies….??

Anyway, let me give you a history lesson about the AK47. It is called as AK47 as it was introduced in 1947 ! So it is a very old design and in fact most countries have stopped using it. The fact that this is a weapon of choice for terrorists might interest you….You know the American Special Forces used to call it as the “spray and pray” gun…that should give an indication on its accuracy…..

Anyway coming back to your points, well, turning up for that 25th Nov rally would not indicate guts but stupidity. Son’t talk about changing the fate of the community but ask yourself if YOU can change YOUR FATE first. The reason why Indians are backward is because their attitude. If everyone can change their attitude, then the community can progress automatically.

Don’t question my guts or commitment to the community, for what I have done in year the past year would probably more than what most Malaysians Indians done in their whole life. I am sorry I can’t tell you the details, for obvious reasons. So I got have nothing to answer to your, my community or the God himself.

Don’t think you have done something great to the community by taking the street, in fact you have done a great disservice. Nothing will change even if the govt going to give bumiputra status if you don’t change your attitude.

Najib Razak says:

I agree wif Hindraf on the plight of Hindus and Indians in Malaysia. Forget bout Jebat and Killer, they are cronies of UMNO. Although i am also a bumiputra n a born malaysian wif malay blood, but i disagree wif the cronies from UMNO that other races should be marginalized. We Malaysians are falling behind each day to other nations in Asia in terms of this NEP and also NEP do not really benefit malays or bumiputra but to UMNO cronies. I can tell you that most malays to not get any govt projects from UMNO except or unless you become a dog to the UMNO leaders. Most malays remain poor that’s why there’s protest by even bumiputras on the street for e.g. Bersih which protest up to 40,000 people mostly malays. As you see, not only non-bumis are marginalized by BN/UMNO but also the poor malays are marginalized that’s why there’s protest everywhere by malays and bumiputras – only yesterday there’s bout 10,000 malays in KLCC under PROTES protesting of inflation and barang naik – BN = Barang Naik. I was there and the bloody polis under UMNO detained 56 people where 50 over people is malays. So I can say our enemy is actually the corrupted govt not the rakyat. So Jebat/Killer please acknowledge that you are not the only pro-UMNO that is supporting the govt. To support the govt means to support corruption. Let’s remove the current govt wif our votes on the next election and get a new govt. It is time to change the whole govt coz our nation called Malaysia is falling behind even to some african countries in terms of economic development. And I as a graduate malay with a Doctorate can’t see how our current govt is going to help the poor and also the nation….if our govt cannot even solve our flood problems for so many years – how can they concentrate on those stupid corridors development, even the current MSC corridor and Putrajaya corridor and cyberjaya corridor is a waste…if Killer/Jebat were to drive around Cyberjaya and Putrajaya you may notice how quiet and slow this place is…almost like a dead town/city. Do Killer/Jebat really think BN/UMNO can develop more corridors when the existing corridors are abandon??? Even DayaBumi is very empty and a lot of vacant space available and not to mentioned KLCC which is 60% empty. So what the heck if we have northern corridor, Eastern corridor or southern corridor like Iskandar Development region is really over stated when our govt cannot even solve our flood problems….So Jebat/Killer do you still want to vote for Barisan National??? If our govt is really sincere about helping the rakyat, they should start wif donating some food to the poor indians and also poor chinese. I have never seen Badawi or even Mahathir donate anything to the non-bumis. It is really crazy man…..even the foreigners from otherr countries donates food to the poor malaysians but not our govt. If Killer/Jebat still have some humanity and common sense, please do not support our govt anymore…..do you contribute taxes and EPF to barisan national huh Jebat/killer??? Have you ever ask where did you EPF and Taxes goto??? I dun think so lar Jebat/Killer, you just contribute like slave as other Malaysians are doing rite?? Do you really know why Malaysia is behind Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea and Singapore in terms of economic development or why Malaysia is falling behind India and China in terms of Economic Development and Technology??? Maybe Jebat/Killer would like to debate why our country is falling behind other asean countries instead of wasting time your time debating Hindraf – I think Hindraf/Bersih/Protes/Keadilan exist because of corruption by our govt. Look why Jebat/Killer never ever mentioned bout Allatuya the Mongolian murder or Lingam the corrupted lawyer or some of Jebat/Killer hard earned tax/EPF money going to our Angkasawan 10 days space holiday?? Perhaps Killer/Jebat would like to debate on Angkasawan the Space Tourist???

Hi ,
Killer needs some lesson about history. He seems like one smart alec telling others stupid. He seems reflecting his stupidity. He seems knowing about AK47 , as if it is like a rocket science to understand. With the internet , you can find and learn anything. What is so special about knowing AK47. One character like to scorn others. For any civilization to grow, protest and demonstration is vital , as it works like a gauge for check and balance. Protest and demonstration takes place everywhere and everytime. Russia had their time when the czars were overthrown, melaka had her part , singapore , england , and many other countries. It is the sign of maturity.. of the people. It is a sign of development ; development of administration system . Look at USA, who once had their civil war.. I dont think anyone liked the war.. They are no longer parrots…only dumbs ,,, stay quite.. for all
I strongly support what HINDRAF did. They walked peacefully (opposed to what the Government claim) and get their message across successfully to government and also the world.

Posted on January 29th, 2008

Killer says:

Corrected version…

HumanRace

Thanks for your kind words….

Perhaps you need a history lesson too based on your writing.

Protest and demostration is not vital for progress, do not make such sweeping statements without a shred of evidence or facts. Sometimes they do bring progress and sometimes they bring disasaters too. It is not a prerequisite for progress nor always a reflection of maturity.

I might have falled asleep during my history lesson but perhaps you could be kind enough to tell me about the demonstrations that brought progress in Melaka and Singapore.

As for the American Civil War, please get your facts right (you might want to use internet for that). Please find out the real cause of that war and refrain from making wrong statements.

It is your right to support HINDRAF and I can’t stop you neither do I want to (for morons tend to stick with their own kind). But i disagree that they were peaceful. They were violent and rowdy, not only in terms of action but also language. Please buy one of those VCDs sold by HINDRAF and watch these traitors behave.

Anyway good luck to you and HINDRAF, I can guarantee that they will fail. After the next General Election there will be no HNDRAF or their heroes.

Good day to you…

Kamban says:

Killer ,
put aside Hindraf . Questions , how would you (a peace angel) would define the act of authority demolishing the temples last year ? Importantly , as you criticize Hindraf and Indians , did you by any mean criticized the authorities for that ?
Again put aside Hindraf , would you (a daring Leader) face Gomen leaders to demand why such marginalization in your on peace way ?

I’ve seen few comments across blogs , Indian punch another Indian (verbally) but when comes to Gomen/forces/authority they will end up hiding under table .

Having “ball”pen isn’t enough . Men need to have “balls” too .

Posted on January 30th, 2008

Killer says:

Dear Kamban

It is getting rather tiringsome explaining the issue again and again. Anyway I do it one more time.

It is clear that you are one of those people who had been brainwashed by HINDRAF people on this issue. The truth fact is that no legal temples have been demolished, only the illegal ones. I certainly do not condone demolishing temples but we need to put ourselves in the authorities shoes too. While they should have been more sensitive in handling such matters, the bigger fault lies with us.

As I had said we Hindus might lack many things in Malaysia but certainly not temples. We have around 530 Tamil schools but have more than 25,000 temples. This makes a mockery of the community.

For example in the case of the Malacca temple, due to some internal conflicts one of the temple committe member broke away and opened another temple nearby. And then he expanded it and created some much issue and the mini-temple was located right next to the houses of Muslims and Chinese. Not only the temple had no licence but the temple keeper also provoked other races too with all kind of unhealthy practices that nothing to do with Hinduism. This is what finally led to the temple’s demolishment. In fact neither MIC nor MHS had any objections as the temple had no justification to exist.

Now to the Padang Jawa temple that led to all kind of problems. Both the temple and surau was asked to be moved for last 3 years. The developer gave land and money to both. The developed even obtained a court order to evict the squatters, temple and surau.

Surau was relocated but the Indians refused to move. The money (several tens of thousand) somehow mysteriously went missing. The new temple committed asked for more money and when the developer refused, the committee started to cause problems. So you tell me, what choice the developer / authorities have ? They had been trying for 3 years and even have High Court’s order. Do you think the temple committee’s action is fair ? Don’t you think the temple committee and the HINDRAF people who refused move are the actual culprit and the one really responsible for the temple demolishment ?

This is the same case for every temple demolishment case…it is our people that had been giving problem.
