MP, yes the way they have gone about the demolition was wrong, they should have been more sensitive, but if you read what i have written properly, i said Hindraf’s allegations were that they did not destroy the Malay homes AT ALL, which was obviously untrue. Oh and I was referring to Little India.

I was not asking the likes of the Indian Chamber to come to US, rather, go to THEM. Yes, it is true that in SPM they have biased grading systems, but hey, that’s not going to change through this rally. Im an Indian myself and I have personally experienced this during my SPM examinations.

And my mother, who is an Indian too, (we’re not mamaks or anything pure hindus) managed to get Malay shareholders but she has a controlling stake in a company which she built from scratch. So what I’m saying is, there’s an intelligent (and legal) way around things but most Indians complain. If my mother can do it, and supply medical equipment to Government hospitals nationwide, why cant the others? (Actually im proud to say there are others too, hats off to them).

Additionally, this is where the Indian Chamber and the likes come in. She WENT there HERSELF, did not wait for them to come. I am not an avid supporter or anything, but she did manage to muster up some kind of networking and information which were imperative for her business. See, there’s things everywhere if you would just look for it.

Again, I do not support the NEP personally, of course, I would rather see and have an affirmative action policy which favors all the races and it should be based on economic standing rather than skin color. I nvr condone the NEP also because it only favors an elite, politically connected group.

To be honest, i do not want/have to read the Chinese’s history. Bearing the risk of being ignorant, I would like to see how they are still getting around things this present day. A lot of them, were poor too right? (Actually you cannot really take statements from the MCA literally, because they’re under UMNO). But yes, they are still progressing.

All im sayin is we’re smart enough to get around things. And, all I’m suggesting is if that Hindraf really wants to make a bold statement, they should get some of their facts right in order for others to take them seriously. Of course, I would like to see them EDUCATE (i stress this again) the Indian community on their rights and opportunities. However, i admire them on one side because they are trying to make a difference, and thats something big too.

Lastly, of course the chambers and other associations wont come to you! you have to go to them if you have a situation!

If you are in a predicament, God does not come to you, you try to reach God through prayer, no?

MCA under UMNO, so what? They show support for their own people. and the Indians?

Lets talk about Revathi’s plight. This is opening up other avenues for discussion now. She knew she could not state her “actual” religion cos our government are declaring or rather once declared Malaysia is a Muslim country when its actually secular.

The way the Muslim religion is being handled here, it is just not right. But who are we to protest against that. So, if you are born muslim and you do not want to follow the religion, you denounce. Ultimately, you can’t cos you are in Malaysia. Now, if you are Revathi, not so rich to move to another country, where do you go for help? Who will champion your rights?

I know HINDRAF isn’t going to solve all these issues but what we want is just to be heard. For people to know that we exist and not just sweep us under the rug and forget about it later.

We can’t personally change every single Indian in Malaysia to work around things. Some are educated, some are not. So, we need someone strong to move them in the right direction. Someone whose voice can and will be heard.

About MIC being “up there”, I seriously wonder how many Indians actually vote. I know I don’t, my friends don’t, my family / extended families don’t.
People who vote could be those who expect things to change GE after GE. Well, good for them for having such strong faith, I do not oppose their actions.

I have a lots of chinese and malay friends and even my wife is chinese. They all support the HINDRAF’s move infact, because they see the rational in it. My friend you have talked about May 13th between Malay and chinese…. and you say that indians are only 7%….even the statics for the chinese is less then 20% now…. why is that ? because even chinese are fed up with what is going on here and they are leaving the country same like the indian professionals.
Even the chinese have been deprieved from their rights due to the “zao gou” in the government and we can’t deny that. They are happy atleast the indians have a group to fight for them where else the chinese will still be left to follow their leaders. I think killer’s opinion about temples is right. I’m a Hindu and the truth is finding a Hindu temple in Malaysia was never been a problem. Amman temple, Murugan temple, Vinayagar temple, Sivan temple, Krishna temple, Hanuman temple, Muneswaran etc. etc you can find them all everywhere in Malaysia. Only thing I notice in some of the temples are empty except during special occasion.

Another thing you notice is that Chinese community who were also brought in to Malaya the same time as Indians are successful due to their own effort and passion for business. It had been ingrained in their culture. Therefore, though conditions were not favorable to non bumiputras, Chinese were still very successful.

Let’s look at point by point.

Firstly the need to have the rally. Let me ask you if you really think by marching to the British Embassy you can solve all the problems facing Indians ?

The suit against the British govt has zero merit and zero chance of success. And if HINDRAF’s lawyers say otherwise then they are lying. All the talk about the Reid Commission is just to confuse people. Well, I don’t want to write a long post to explain this. You don’t have to believe me, just do your own research using Google / wikipedia and you will see for yourself what I meant.

In summary, the Reid Commission was a group that tasked to prepare a recommendation for the constituition of Malaya by the British govt. Later the commission’s report became the basic for the Malaya/Malaysia’s constituition. There is nothing in it that HINDRAF can use to justify in asking for compensation. This action is pure stupidity.

Secondly, the petition to ask the Queen to assign QC for this case. This action bring stupidity to an even higher plane. You think the British govt is naive enough to help HINDRAF so that they get sued for 4 trillion pounds ?

Thirdly, even if HINDRAF wins and gets the money, will this solve all our problems ?

The British govt has nothing to do with the plights of Indian in Malaysia. Even if they have been colonised, they are far better off economically than the Indians in India. So how can you claim our situation has gotten worse in the last 5 years ?

Let me give you guys a history lesson of our country.

Folks, our forefathers had agreed to the Malaysian constitution and not the British or UMNO forced it on us. But before you blame them, think the situation 50 years ago. The Malays were outnumbered by Indians and Chinese at that time (yes, that was true) but the Malays agreed to provide citizenship to the Indians and Chinese. I can bet you to tell me where or when in the history of this world such a gesture was ever took place. For all the bad things you say about Malays, this action was unprecendented in the world’s history.In exchange the Indians and Chinese agreed to grant “special rights” to the Malays which I think is very fair deal at that time. Of course this Malay special rights have been abused later, but that’s a different story.

A bitter election campaign was fought by various political parties prior to the general election of 10 May 1969. Party leaders stoked racial and religious sentiments in order to win support. Pan Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) accused the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) of selling the rights of the Malays to the Chinese, while the Democratic Action Party (DAP) accused Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) of giving in to UMNO. The DAP promoted the concept of “Malaysian Malaysia” which would deprive the Malays of their special rights under the Constitution. Both the DAP and the People’s Progressive Party objected to Malay as the national language and proposed multi-lingualism in its stead.[1]

Senior Alliance politicians including Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman, accused the People’s Progressive Party of Singapore of involvement in the campaign, as it had done during the 1964 general election campaign.

The run-up to the election was marred by two deaths: that of an UMNO election agent, who was killed by a group of armed Chinese youths in Penang and that of a member of the Labour Party of Malaya (LPM), who was killed in Kepong, Selangor.[1]

There was a contrast in the handling of these two deaths. The UMNO worker was buried without publicity, the LPM casualty was honoured at a parade on 9 May when some 3000 LPM members marched from Kuala Lumpur to Kepong, violating regulations and trying to provoke incidents with the police. Participants sang Communist songs, waved red flags, and called upon the people to boycott the general election. Amidst this tension, the general election was held on 10 May 1969. Election day itself passed without any incident and the result shows the opposition had tied with the Alliance for control of the Selangor state legislature.

On 12 May, thousands of Chinese marched through Kuala Lumpur, parading through predominantly Malay areas which hurled insults that led to the incident.[1]

Members of UMNO Youth gathered in Kuala Lumpur at the residence of Selangor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Harun bin Haji Idris, on 13 May and demanded that they too should hold a victory celebration; at the national level the Alliance had gained a majority in Parliament, albeit a reduced one, and in Selangor it had gained the majority by cooperating with the sole independent candidate.

While the UMNO Youth members were gathered in the compound of the Menteri Besar’s residence, two cars containing a number of Chinese suddenly drew up. The Chinese asked the gathering to disperse, saying that the residence now belonged to the opposition leader. Meanwhile, news arrived that Chinese groups had attacked Malays in Setapak. This triggered a wave of violence resulting in loss of life and property.16
