SJKT Ladang Bukit Jalil missing from KL City Plan

Remember SJKT Ladang Bukit Jalil? It is the school that is being relocated to a cemetery area. It has the infamous publicity of being flooded 3 times in a month. Well, looks like its not on the KL Draft City Plan 2020 ! I don’t suppose the idea to temporarily house the school in ground floor of the flats has anything to do with its disappearance?

Chin, who paid RM150 for the two-volume draft plan, complained that there are mistakes in it. He pointed out that SJK (T) Ladang Bukit Jalil school and the detention camp are not included in the plan.

Hishamuddin asks about land for schools in Pakatan states

Very interesting indeed. What if someone asks him back about 50 years track record? What guarantees are there that requests from these states will be given due consideration? One can just hope.

BINTULU: The Education Ministry wants Pakatan Rakyat state governments to disclose how much land would be set aside for the construction of new vernacular, mission and religious schools in the respective states.

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said his ministry had yet to receive any plan from these states although the Opposition made lavish promises to the people during the general election campaign.

“Now, I want to see them fulfil their promises.

“Even in Penang, the DAP has yet to talk about allocating land for Chinese schools, Tamil schools, Sekolah Agama or mission schools.

MIC complaints about civil service intake

Same old story, yet again. I think if we analyse the issues discussed by MIC for last two decades, it centers around the same topics only. Sign of stagnation, inaction, inability, or continuous improvement? Which is it?

Samy:

You can hardly find an Indian employee in the state civil sector.

Anyway, this time Samy says that “Indians are grossly underrepresented even at the district and municipal council levels”. At least, those days we can find drivers, office boys, gardeners, etc in these places. But with changing times, the community may not be interested in these kind of menial jobs which lack career prospect. Having said that, even those who apply for these low-salary positions face stiff competition from the majority race.

Samy wants to meet the menteri besar and chief ministers from BN-held states to solve this problem. if I can offer a solution – force 50% of position to be given to other races (let MIC champion other communities too) for the next 5 years. this positions (ranging from all levels of jobs) cannot be filled by the privileged community under any circumstances. this will force the states to find innovative ways to promote the vacancies. No point MIC or other NGOs waste money doing more surveys and roadshow to try promot career in public sector. Let the state departments do it. End of the day, XX number of people must be hired. Make it part of the KPI of the directors.

He says that he won’t approach Pakatan-held states and says that it will be easier to work with BN states. Well, we have seen how “easy” it is to work with BN states for last few years. I think it will be easier to work with Pakatan states. Maybe Samy should give it a try indirectly, using his connections.

Meanwhile, CWC member Murugesan highlighted in his blog that:

On 8th June, 2008, the Road Transport Department or Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) published the list of successful candidates for ‘Jawatan Pembantu Penguatkuasa Gred N17′ in Mingguan Malaysia.

It is alarming to note that out of 751 successful candidates, only 15 were non-Bumiputras. It constitutes less then 2% of successful candidates. Out of this, only 10 candidates or 1.3% were Indians. » Read more: MIC complaints about civil service intake

Should EVERYONE change their lifestyle to reduce fuel price impact?

I first heard the suggestion about reducing salary of ministers via an email sent to TV3, last week. And voila, the PM announces a 10% reduction in entertainment allowance for cabinet ministers plus limitation in vacation destination. This is being followed by other states such as Pahang, Terengganu, Malacca, and Sarawak. Sarawak even plans to reduce salary of its ministers, BN assemblymen, state speaker etc. by 10%, while Pahang MB hinted at 30% reduction of entertainment allowance.

Lim Kit Siang was talking about reducing more“why stop at just 10%” and asked to cut allowance by half, so I wonder what the Pakatan states will do. Follow suit or do something else? How will the opposition MPs show their support? Will they sacrifice more or will they just sit back and blame the government for the situation?

UMNO Youth  member suggests cutting 10% of salaries of all ministers, deputies an civil servants. Hmm, then how many civil servants will  be under poverty line again?

Looking at the responses on TV, print and online media (even Kalabakan MP Ghapur Salleh Kinabatangan MP Bung Mohktar acknowledged), the rakyat themselves are not fooled by this superficial reductions. They would feel that leaders should “leader by example” and not do damage limitation exercise by announcing such matters after people are angry over price hike.

I personally think that all ministers and MPs should be forced to use public transport. Let them ride in RapidKL or Metrobus, along our Indonesia and Bangladeshi workers, students, wage earners, and pensioners. Let the ministers take Star LRT or Komuter, and get “close” to the rakyat. Komuter carries 90,000 people daily, LRT and Star 300,000 people, and RapidKL about 400,000 people according to this report. Imagine the amount of PR the ministers and MPs can generate.

Ask them to return the government cars and just make monthly claims for transportation costs. Oh, worried about crime and time being wasted? Well, welcome to the real world! If ministers in other countries can take public transport, I don’t see any valid reason why ours can’t do so. We are not a war-torn or under-developed country. Our police have high success rates. Our citizens are polite and helpful people. We have first class facilities. So, why not? » Read more: Should EVERYONE change their lifestyle to reduce fuel price impact?

dead detainee inquest postponed…8 times!

8th postponement of inquest into detainee’s death
KUALA LUMPUR: The inquest into the death of Ulaganathan Muniandy was postponed for the eighth time yesterday, raising the concern of Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram).
Counsel James Khong, who is holding a watching brief for the family, urged the magistrate to speed up the inquest as it had been four years since Ulaganathan died in police custody.Yesterday, the deputy public prosecutor and all the witnesses did not show up, Khong said in a statement issued through Suaram.

He said the previous hearing on Feb 29 was postponed for the same reason, while the first five hearings were not held following applications for postponement by the DPP.

Ulaganathan was detained under the Emergency Ordinance on May 12, 2003, at the Kajang police station, where he died on July 21.
The Kajang Hospital concluded that his cause of death “cannot be determined”, although his family suspected foul play.

The next inquest hearing is scheduled for July 22.
