After HINDRAF showed the power of the Indian community, we now have CHINDRAF- CHeras Irritated N Disappointed Residents Action Force (or Chinese Dedicated Residents Action Force or make your own versions). When 1000 residents gather and get hit by water canon and tear gas, BN can kiss its hopes away for the next election.
Obviously the parties involved – developer, toll operator, state government, federal representatives, JUPEM, lawyers etc., should identify the root cause of the problem. Is it the developer or toll operator? Why should residents suffer for others’ mistake? As we know, legal cases takes ages to reach a verdict, and that also can be appealed. How long should the issue drag on? Until next election or the one after?
What has happened since yesterday’s attack by police on residents:
One MP warded for injuries due to police attacking him with pepper spray, kicking and hitting him: (NOTE: policemen must undergo course to recognise MPs and ADUNs)
DAP member of parliament for Segambut, Lim Lip Eng, has been warded at 3pm today following his scuffle with police officers in Bandar Mahkota Cheras (BMC) near Kajang last night.
According to Kampung Tunku assemblyperson Lau Weng San who notified the press on the matter, Lim was complaining of dizzy spells and could not open his eyes. “His family had him warded for observation. We’re not sure what’s wrong with him,” said Lau.
Lim was at BMC yesterday in support of residents who tore down a barricade erected by Kajang-Cheras Highway concessionaire Grand Saga Sdn Bhd. Subsequently, Federal Reserve Unit personnel fired tear gas and water cannons at the crowd simultaneously as Lim was involved in a fracas with the police (right).
He had told reporters last night that he suffered blows to the head and kicks to the body and his shirt was torn during the melee. Lim was also hit with pepper sprayed on the face at a close range.
IGP advises to not create mob rule and warns police will take action:
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said there should not be any mob rule in this country especially when there are laws. He said the police would act against those who organised or incited residents to break the law by gathering illegally and demonstrating.
“We too are concerned as the toll free access road has not been gazetted yet. If there is an accident we will not be able to investigate and motorists will have to file a civil suit for compensation.
“All parties concerned should sit down and find an amicable solution to the problem without resorting to mob rule. “They should go to court and fight for their rights instead of damaging property and inconveniencing other motorists and residents in the area.”
Selangor government to reveal JUPEM report:
In a related development, Selangor state executive councillors Ronnie Liu and Ean Yong Hian Wah will be announcing the land survey results conducted by the Department of Surveying and Mapping (Jupen) on the site of the barricade tomorrow.
There is still no barrier till tonight.
Residents hand over memo to Selangor MB:
The memorandum, which was handed over by the chairman of the Open Up Jalan Bandar Mahkota Cheras Committee, Tan Boon Wah, demanded that the Selangor Menteri Besar study and resolve the issue with regard to the access road to Bandar Mahkota Cheras immediately.
The memorandum expressed the dissatisfaction of the residents over the obstruction put up repeatedly by Grand Saga to prevent the public from using the main road to Bandar Mahkota Cheras near Kajang.
Selangor government to have meeting with all parties involved:
The Selangor government will call for a special meeting with the federal government and Grand Saga Sdn Bhd, the concessionaire for the Cheras-Kajang Expressway, to resolve the issue on the access road to Bandar Mahkota Cheras.
Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim called on the residents to be patient, saying that the state government would find a solution to the problem so that residents in the area would not face any more obstruction from the company concerned.“We have to sit down and hold a discussion between the state government, federal government and the concessionaire. And we will take into consideration the views of the residents concerned,”
Backbencher Club chairman Datuk Seri Tiong (Bintulu) says residents should use legal avenue and take toll operator to court:
BANDAR Mahkota Cheras residents should take the developer of a blocked access road to court and not reopen it themselves. Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club chairman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said they should not take the law into their hands in using the road leading to the Cheras-Kajang Highway.
The road was closed by the highway concessionaire, Grand Saga, two years ago after it was opened to the public. It was reopened illegally by residents on April 21 with the help of Pakatan Rakyat representatives.
Tiong said the developer, Narajaya, had breached several conditions in an agreement with Grand Saga, leading to the concessionaire blocking the road. “I spoke to the concessionaire this morning (yesterday) and they briefed me on their agreement with the developer. The developer had breached some of the conditions.
“Only the courts can give an order to reopen the road and the Selangor government should not interfere in this.”He advised Selangor exco member Ean Yong Hian Wah not to blow the matter out of proportion by asking residents to fight for their rights.
Four people arrested so far:
Four people were picked up after they demonstrated at Bandar Mahkota, Cheras, due to road works being carried out at a traffic light junction leading to the area.
The demonstration which saw about 1,000 people, mostly residents from the nearby areas, gathering from 4pm to stop the work conducted by workers.
The protesting crowd played a cat-and-mouse game with the authorities until 10.30pm when the situation worsened.
This polis are useless bums. In fact I saw them bullying chinese and indians for no reasons. I also took some pics of polis asking for bribes in massage parlours which I frequent. They just went to the SPA and ask football money from the SPA massage owner. So useless is the polis. They are good in getting bribes but ask them to just catch a killer or rapist, or just keep the neighbourhood from crimes then they are more useless then a baby sitter. I took some pics from my hphone camera of polis accepting bribes in massage parlours in cheras and sungai long and will be posting it on the web soon. Any of you interest in download the pics please contact me at 012-369 1850
