KUALA LUMPUR: The MIC central working committee meeting yesterday was a stormy affair when party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu and vice-president Tan Sri K.S. Nijhar were involved in a heated row.
As reporters waited outside the meeting room at the MIC headquarters, the doors flung open and a visibly upset Nijhar stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

He was overheard shouting: “I never knew you to be such a cruel man. How can you simply sack a man?”

Nijhar walked away in a huff, refusing to answer questions from reporters.

At a press conference immediately after the row, Samy Vellu was asked about Nijhar’s outburst.
The party president simply replied: “That’s his problem (dia punya hal, dia punya pasal). This is a party where people have the right to argue and discuss.”

It was later learnt that Nijhar was upset with the expulsion of former Kapar division chairman S. Subramaniam, better known as Jumbo Maniam.

Subramaniam later confirmed he had been expelled, but told the New Straits Times he did not know the real reason for his sacking. He suspected it was because of his statement in the Tamil daily Malaysian Nanban where he had questioned the accounts of the Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology (Aimst) University.

“First, I was asked to explain why I questioned the accounts. Then I received a letter from the MIC headquarters yesterday informing me that I had been sacked from the party,” he said.

VP storms outIn another development, vice-president KS Nijhar stormed out of CWC meeting room in a huff and refused to tell reporters why.

He was heard shouting: “How can you sack the person? How can you be so cruel?”

Sources told Malaysiakini that the CWC was contemplating sacking their Klang division chief Alex Thiagarasan yesterday over scathing comments made against Samy that was carried by the New Straits Times. Alex had called Samy a “dictatory and “judge, jury and executioner” and faulted the latter over the party’s troubles of late.

Sources said that several CWC members had suggested that Alex be sacked but others, including Nijhar, objected.

During the press conference, Samy refused to comment on the matter and instead asked reporters to approach Nijhar for an explanation.

History does indeed repeats itself but on this occasion Nijhar is on wrong side!

Going back about 20 years Nijhar was a strong supporter of SV. If I remember right he was the head of or one of those in the disciplinary committee which expelled quite a few important MIC members who at that time were seen to be not in favour of SV.

It makes me think that Nijar must be thinking that with SV on the way down and not going to be much of any use to all (and sundry) soon and that it is time perhaps to put up a show and perhaps (if possible) latch on to potential new blood.

SV appears to be quite pathetic when he appears on the media. The man appears to have lost his mental capacity to articulate and convince anyone with a proper argument of his points to convince the viewer.

Surely there must be a close friend of SV who has the guts to tell him that he (SV) has lost the plot and it is time to pack up and enjoy the next few years in retirement (& in peace). He should have enough money to retire on. Let the Almighty be a judge of his wrongdoings.

It is sad to see another Indian being an object of ridicule especially when he claims to be the leader of the Indians in Malaysia. If one notices SV does not have any coherency in the thought patterns any more. The man should be told very firmly and politely that it is time for him to leave the MIC alone. The MIC is and will always be bigger /and more important than any individual including SV though he has degraded it to the present state.

If he continues with hanging on to the MIC he will certainly see it to its funeral. The Indians after all these years of disappointment will be right in thinking that their interests will be better served by other parties including PAS.

All of us Indians have to bear the responsibility in that we did not do anything to get SV out all these long years! It is not his fault. It is our fault. We never had the guts to do anything until HINDRAF came along!

    Valga Makkal Sakthi!
