Gobind: It’s time for me to contest
JOHOR BARU: DAP national legal bureau secretary Gobind Singh Deo is undecided on whether to contest a state or parliamentary seat in Johor. But the son of DAP chairman Karpal Singh is certain about one thing – that it is time for him to contest on the party’s ticket.
Given a choice, Gobind Singh, 34, said that he preferred to vie for a parliamentary seat. “But if the (DAP) leadership wants me to stand for a state seat, I will,” he said.
He said his interest in contesting was not due to pressure or coaxing from his famous father, adding that it was his own decision.
There is a very big difference in “the father and son team, the fil and sil team, the sibilings team” in the Barisan National and the Opposition.
In the Barisan National the various teams are there for the sole purpose of serving THEMSELVES and clamouring their loyalty to the UMNO president aka the PM for cabinet positions and various perks and titles such as ‘Datuk’. ‘Tan Sri’ and ‘Tun’.
On the other hand the ‘teams’ in the Oppostion are there solely to provide a channel to voice the dissatisfaction of the people who have been taken for a ride by the Barisan National. They are in Parliament and in the various State Government to check the excesses of the ruling party and to expose its corruption, hegemony. abuse of power and authority and endless marginalisation of the minorities.
These ‘teams’ in the Opposition who are well educated professionals could have easily joined the Barisan National but they have decided NOT to sell their soul (principles) to the devil (Barisan National).
Have you come across any member of the Opposition who has millions/billions in wealth or who has been awarded any titles? Yes, you will come across some ex-Oppostion members who were desperate to sell their souls so as to enjoy the benefits of their Barisan allies.
I salute those who would rather serve the people who elected them even if it means lesser or no perks at all. I congratulate Gobind Singh Deo for his courage and conviction to follow in his father’s footsteps. He would make another fearless ‘lion’. He would be a real asset to the Opposition. Wherever he stands, I hope and pray the people would vote for him.
it’s ok as long the son is capable and chosen by people in stead of being pushed in by the father regardless in oppo or pro parties. We’ve current ministers whom were sons of previous leaders .
