According to the survey on this blog, Subra is not exactly the first choice. I think MIC needs a total revamp, and that means cutting away ties to its past leaders. Anyone who was holding a position under the current president should not be considered as capable of solving the MIC’s problem.
Subra offers to help rebuild MIC
PETALING JAYA: Former MIC deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam has offered to help rebuild the party to ensure that the Barisan Nasional gets back the trust and confidence of the community.
He said although there could be many reasons for the present political scenario, there should not be any finger pointing in the party.
“Instead, let us let us join hands to put our efforts to rebuild the party to its former glory,”
“I have decided to work with the party leadership and its hierarchy to resolve the community’s problems with the help of the government,” he said at his home Tuesday.
Subramanian said that he was saddened by the results of the general election that saw the party’s worst defeat in its history
Great! Now we have another thick-skinned-power-hungry ‘has-been’ wanting to reform the party.
What the MIC needs to do in order to remain relevant is to rid the ghosts of the past; and that includes every single person on their CWC – top to bottom.
It’s pointless to reform anything when the leaders, who are already embroiled in turmoil are allowed to dictate terms as and when they please – all in the name of reforming /re-inventing the party.
IMHO, we should actually make an attempt to move away from race based politics. If we Indians could provide that catalyst as we did with the Hindraf rally – with our clarion call of ‘Makkal Sakthi’ proving to be a rallying & unifying aspect among the ‘vote for change’ masses, there’s no reason why we can’t lead and show the other races that assimilation would be our best effort yet in calling ourselves ‘Anak Bangsa Malaysia’.
Finally, let’s not kid ourselves into believing that a revamped MIC under the same crass individuals who led this party & its supporters on a downward spiral, will have the guts to admit their past mistakes. They never have & never will. Too much animosity, bad-blood & in-fighting has damaged & depleted their ranks. Again, IMHO – the MIC stands for ‘Malaysian Irrelevant Congress’.
It’s time to pick up the pieces & move on.
The entire present set up of MIC is not trustworthy. They all come in and were able to stay on with the blessings of SV. They all need to go. The people need to take charge again right from the branch level through the divisions to states and on to the CWC level right up to the very top. It will be good if they opt to stay out of government for one term to rebuild the organisation.
If Subra does offer to come in – the people will only trust him if he choses to
be an Elder and groom new leaders and he himself categorically declines any postion in MIC or the government.
We need people who can speak up without fear (of losing their positions) or favour even for their own relatives. People should be encouraged to
speak up and debate issues freely. Look what happened with Hindraf and the courage and the fearlessness of the leaders involved with their self sacrifice on behalf of the community which brought about so much good change in the political landscape of the nation. We need leaders of such traits and calibre and not the ones who owe SV favours and those who have been dragged through the present political sewage.
Apart from the MIC the Indian community has to look seriously at the ownership of the Mariamman temple and Batu Caves complex. If necessary the National Govt / State Govt should be encouraged to take over these places and hand them over to the rightful owners – the Hindus of the nation and not a few people who claim heriditary right to own it all.
well , bringing in Subra might have some good effects in MIC.
After all he got abt 400 plus votes from 1200 plus in MIC Election.
So he still has power within MIC.
boycott subra,he is a thin skin fellow, not shame at all, after so many things done to him,i think he is aimming for minister post now.
no one can save MIC . Mainly because all the existing corrupts and gangesters holding on to their posts . The people rejected them because they are useless .
Out of the 3 fellows survived Parliament contest , 2 are well known gangsters . And the master gangster recommended one of the 2 to be a minister . Should we laugh or cry ?
