I kind of agree with SV on this. It is disappointing to read that DAP “allocated” two seats for Indians in Perak. It should always be “best person for the job”, doesn’t matter on his skin color. If Perak DAP assemblymen oppose to this, then they should be exposed for who they really are. the state governments (all of them) must be able to show on what criteria were portfolios allocated to the selected assemblymen. Put up the assemblymen biodata as well, and let the people judge for themselves if the state government have any hidden agenda in allocation such positions.

However, he dismissed notions that the emergence of non-race-based parties like PKR and DAP would render the MIC irrelevant. He said if the opposition parties truly did not care about race, they would have allocated equal number of state executive council positions to all the races.

“They are reverting to what the Barisan Nasional is doing. They used to say BN is wrong.

“But why is there only one Indian in the Perak, Penang and Selangor excos? Is it because they feel Indians are not qualified?

Exco line-ups: Opposition rapped over ‘lies’

MIC president S Samy Vellu today took the opposition to task over the lack of Indians in their state executive councils. Responding to a question on multiracial politics, the veteran politician said the newly formed state governments should have given the Indians two exco positions.

Why only one? Why are they following just like Barisan Nasional (BN)? Is this what they promised before the elections, they have their own motives.

“The opposition tells lies to attract people, we tell the truth. In this last one month, I have learnt one thing, which is how to tell lies to attract voters. “But I will not resort to this (telling lies) since sooner or later, the people will find out your true colours,” he told reporters after opening the MIC divisional leaders workshop at the party’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

According to Samy Vellu, the sole Indian exco members in the four opposition-controlled states will not be able to provide effective representation for the community, especially with BN still controlling the federal government.

“We (MIC) are not into getting the same publicity like the opposition… we will continue to work for the community. The opposition is based on majority. For example, DAP, the Indians are the minority in the party, so don’t expect DAP to give two exco seats (for the Indians),” he said.

‘One Indian rep in excos not enough to look after community’

KUALA LUMPUR: The appointment of a single Indian executive council member in Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor is insufficient to cater to the needs of the community, said MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

“The Indian exco members will not be able to contribute effectively to the community, especially with the Barisan Nasional ruling the Federal Government,” he said.

Samy Vellu said this was not what the opposition parties promised before the elections. “One Indian exco in Kedah, Perak, Penang and Selangor – is this what they promised before the elections?

“In this last one month, I have learnt one thing, which is how to tell lies to attract voters. “But I will not resort to this tactic as sooner or later the people will find out your true colours,” he told reporters after opening a workshop entitled “Rebranding the MIC” for 150 division leaders at the MIC headquarters here yesterday.
