We can see the duel between BN and opposition enter another area – the villages. This crucial component of development aid focus promises business opportunity and platform for publicity/political career. The state goverment will try to hire their own people, while the federal government will try to keep their appointees one way or another. We may end up seeing more red tapes, job titles, overlapping duties, power struggles etc, when each coalition puts up its own people.
The gesture to hire non-Malays will be useful in areas where the non-Malays are no fluent in Malay or the issues involve culture, language, religion etc.
Non-Malays may be assistant penghulu
ALOR STAR: The state government may appoint non-Malays as assistant penghulu to take over specific duties from Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK). Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said yesterday they would be required to help village heads who would have to shoulder a heavier burden in future.
He said penghulu who were government servants had been overshadowed by JKKK members who served on a voluntary basis.
He said the move would help the state government resolve matters relating to villagers. “Penghulu have been given the authority to deal with matters relating to their village,” Azizan said after meeting with penghulu at his official residence here.
