Fewer Tamil teachers in training

source

THE number of Indians taking up Tamil in the six teacher training colleges in the country is dwindling, Tamil Nesan reported.

It said only 40 Indians graduated in the course from the Sultan Abdul Halim Teacher Training College in Sungai Petani on Saturday.

Between 150 and 200 Indians used to graduate from the college in previous years. The paper reported that only 27 Indians were expected to graduate next year.

It said that the Education Ministry should send the 1,000 temporary teachers in Tamil schools for training courses during the school holidays, to overcome the shortage.

    Hi poobalaan,

my suggestion is the problem start from parents.

When we look back at 50’s, 60’s & 70’s there are lot of student’s study in Tamil school. When their kids grow up there also follow their step pun them to tamil school. Then we can c lot of children can read n write tamils.

When it comes 80’s, 90’s & 2000 i think the parents’s felt tamil student left behind and then they start to sent their kids to primary school. And that time we know how was our tamil school …most of them don’t have a good facilities.

Now most of the parents are from primary school as me. I only can speak … but didn’t know how to read n write. With tis i wont sent my kids to Tamil school bcoz i felt that i cant teach them at home other then in school but i love to learn same goes for my kids. N i am planning to get a Tamil teachers. But the question is do we can get Tamils teachers now very easily? The problem is i thing we indians must learn even thought adults or kids our beloved tamil. The government must help from tamil kindergarden till high school so our indian makkal can score better in tamil papers.

As far as I know, the student intakes in Tamil School has been increasing lately and, sometimes the school managements had to say no to the parents who bring in their children to enroll as they are facing shortage of facilities and manpower. In certain schools, parents are have to pre-register their children one or two years earlier to get a place in Tamil schools. So, without doubt, the number of students and demand for Tamil schools are increasing!

But, I wonder why it doesn’t hit the government to increase their intake for teachers training as well! It’s the same story every year where thousands of people apply and only a handful will be chosen. End of the day, the school managements and PIBG have to put up all kind of fight to get temporary teachers! Even that will happen only a few months after the school ahave started.

When the demand increases, You have to increase the supply as well! I guess that’s not a rocket science for the education ministry not to figure out on time!

Well, these grads are who studied tamil skool during late 80s and 90s. That time it was “cool” to send students to MALAY or English medium skools..

Late 90s and Early 2000s there has been increment in tamil skool intake..

So we will see the effect in another 10 years!.

That time tamil soru poduva endre kelvi irunthathu.. Ipothu, tamil soru podum.,kudeve sambarum kodukum! 🙂 .
