I got to know that Deputy Minister in PM’s Dept, Murugiah was at the school yesterday along with angry and unhappy parents. Never heard anything from the sole guardian of the Indian community our beloved Samy Vellu. Maybe he has more pressing concerns involving RM70 million.
As expected, the teacher (I have got the name, Rusitah Abu Hassan, and photo, but unauthenticated) has “apologised” and Murugiah says the teacher will be transferred. He said disciplinary action will be recommended, but I think after a week it will be all quiet.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator T. Murugiah accompanied by few of his Public Complaints Bureau staff, who visited SMK Telok Panglima Garang yesterday, said the teacher regretted the incident and had apologised to the students. He said the issue was now considered closed and advised members of the Indian community
as well as parents of the affected students to accept the teacher’s apology.
She also said that she did not expect things to become so serious and has agreed to be transferred to another school.
It is still unknown if his head was working well when he was at the school. This is because the community is fuming and this deputy minister tries to sweep the mess under the carpet.
The Star reports that relatives of the affected students as well as the members of the Telok Panglima Garang Indian community refused to regard the matter as closed.
“She must make a public apology as she insulted all Indians and be transferred to a desk job and not
allowed to teach anymore,” said the group’s spokesman S. Muthamil Selvan.
Coalition of Malaysian Indian NGOs secretary Gunaraj George concurred and said his organisation was preparing a memorandum on the matter to be presented to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
As I mentioned earlier, legal action must be taken. We can’t trust the discplinary action nor the teacher’s apology. So far, no lawyer had come forward yet. Let’s see if there are only cowards in these political parties. If the parents want to go ahead, I’m confident that many people will contribute financially to support their legal action. Let this be a warning to all those who serve to “disrupt national unity and harmony” – as our ministers so fondly like to say. Or does it apply to certain groups only?
If you check the school’s website, under sesi pagi, there are 3 Indian teachers listed (Cik Vijayavaney A/P W.V. Richard, Pn Gunadevi A/P Rajadurai, En Nadarajan A/L Thambu). Nadarajan teaches Moral, so perhaps he can give his views. Hopefully all of them will give some comments. Btw, the violent racist teacher’s name is also there I believe.
sign petition for history teacher remarks on indians,
http://www.petitiononline.com/smktpg2/petition.html
Damm.. don’t they realized how serious is the statements?? Shall I make similar statements on Malays race and apology?? Will they accept. I can’t believe this! My message and request to all indians take legal action on this teacher.
This the worst racist remarks I have ever heard spoken openly. If we don’t react, take action, then I can’t blame the teacher for saying those things. Because we allow them to say such things.
What? Just an apology and transfer? I am sure if a non-malay teacher involved, he/she will be crucified! Come on.. Someone has to take legal action on this teacher..
Racist remarks especially derogatory ones have been uttered by many ketuanan melayu type and have got away with only a ‘sorry, I didn’t mean it’ remark.
When such remarks with wild racist overtones are uttered by the Malays, the Indian leaders as usual do not demand a public opology or even drastic actions to be taken on the recalcitrant.
The Indian community should sue the teacher concerned for her insensitive and racial slurs not just as a punitive measure but to drive home a clear message to all would-be racists.
The Indians are not only regarded as third class citizens but they are even described with the vilest and meanest of terms.
I wonder how our PM or DPM would react if an Indian were to use such derogatory terms to describe them and the Malays.
we must salute the parents whom didnt give up easily …. kudos !!
If the parents were to be lead by leg massager like Killer , then he will say like this :
“ampun puanku , tak payah minta maaf . kami anjing anda ….anda gigit pun kami tetap sokong anda…. nak urut kaki ke puan ?”
hahahaha ……
Killi
What makes you think I have not come across such cases and fought successfully for justice ? What made you think I did not make the teachers get transferred or punished ? In my NGO work I have come across many such cases and in every instance actions were taken, I assure you( though without the publicity). I can also tell you that there were more cases in Tamil schools, with the culprit being Indians themselves.
FYI I had also written many letters to Mkini (and was published) about Tamil schools and Indian students in the last several years.
well, the UMNO crock is telling the crap to walk …ohhhh boooi i wonder what kind of NGO work he is doing?
I don’t believe in transfer, counseling and observation. The action just do not match with the crime she did. They will just close the matter soon. I can see they trying to safe her carrier bcoz her skin color.
I seriously urge the students and parents plus Indian community to sue her for the remarks.
We already being patient enough and this time no apology accepted.
Let this be a 1st and last lesson to other racist in Malaysia.
pls help us send the petition message to Mr.Murugiah

Racial abuse teacher gets ‘a better deal’ By : V. Shankar Ganesh
addthis_pub = ‘nstonline’;
BANTING: It obviously pays to hurl racial abuse at students, going by what happened to the teacher who did so at a school here.
The 35-year-old history teacher from SM Telok Panglima Garang was not only transferred to a smart school but to one located nearer her house.
To add insult to injury, no disciplinary action was taken against her.
It is understood that her letter of transfer stated that she was being transferred due to concerns for her security and not because she had committed an offence.
Several parents and non-governmental organisations gathered in front of the school yesterday demanding an explanation from the headmaster for letting her off with just a slap on the wrist.
However, the headmaster refused to meet them, saying the matter was no longer related to the school since the teacher had been transferred.
Coalition of Indian NGOs secretary G. Gunaraj said the transfer showed the teacher had got away scot-free.
“In fact, she even got a better deal. She is now in a better school and one that is nearer to her house.”
He said this set a dangerous precedent as others may think they too can get away scot-free uttering racial slurs.
He said the Education Ministry should be serious in tackling the issue as what the teacher had done could affect racial harmony.
Gunaraj said some teachers in the school were blaming the affected students for lack of a history teacher.
“This should not be the case. Does it mean that students should keep quiet, no matter what a teacher does?”
In the incident last month, the teacher allegedly told students of a certain ethnic group in a Form Four class that she “wanted to test their level of patience” and then began abusing them with derogatory words.
She even wrote the words on the blackboard. Two students later lodged police reports against her.
Several days earlier, she had allegedly entered a Form Five class and called the students using a derogatory word. She also accused them of being gangsters and thieves.
She was also alleged to have ordered the boys to do push-ups. When some of them could not do so, she allegedly stomped on their backs.
Last Monday, nearly 500 parents and members of the public gathered to protest in front of the school.
Meanwhile, Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the ministry had instructed the State Education Department to initiate an inquiry and that the teacher “had some explaining to do”.
State Education director Ashah Samah said she had wanted to transfer the person out of the state but had acceded to a request from the teacher to remain in the district.
She said the transfer letter was issued by the district education department and that she would investigate claims that security had been stated as the reason for the move.
