According to a Malaysiakini report, Samy Vellu says that MIC’s innovative techniques deployed in Permatang Pauh election was effective. He is happy with campaign strategies which included door-to-door campaign and VCDs (like what the opposition did last time). Groceries were distributed to the poor as well.

However, we have to wait for the statistics to see if the 3000-odd Indian voters fell for the MIC’s new strategies. UPDATE: According to an analysis in Malaysiakini, 1% more non-Malay voters voted for Anwar as compared to March 8 elections. No racial breakdown were given.

Samy Vellu said that all promises made during the by-election campaign will be fulfilled.

Terengganu BN is following up on its rejuvenation process by setting up a task force to protect and take care of the needs of the minority communities – Chinese, Indians, Siamese, and Orang Asli.

The idea from current Menteri Besar Ahmad Said is being headed by a MCA guy – Datuk Wong Foon Meng.

The task force’s job is among others to:
– provide suggestions and recommendations to the state government on how to lift the standard of living among the
minorities,
– look into any discriminatory policies against minorities
– render education opportunities to all locals.
– look into how more from the community could be absorbed into the state civil service.
– ensure local authorities issue licences to the minority groups without being biased
– ensure that steps be taken to stop possible occurrence of racial slurs in government departments.

Following up on their boss’ call for rebranding, MIC Youth launches its new office and website today.Drop by http://www.pemudamic.org

According
to its newly appointed chief (no more temporary coordinator?) T Mohan, the opening of the new office “showed that the Youth wing was serious in its efforts to rebrand the party and at the same time serve its members
more effectively.”

We will station a communications officer at the office to hear and solve problems that crop up. We normally deal with issues concerning birth certificates and identity cards.

“This office would also serve as a one-stop centre. We will deal with these problems systematically. We will also forward problems to the relevant
authorities and two other officers will be in charge of this,” he told reporters after the opening by party president Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu.

He said all complaints pertaining to social and welfare issues would be handled by several other officers who would man the office from 9am to 6pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday.

At last!!! Free from paying rent and can sleep under own roof (well, if we leave out the house loan). Finally moved in to new house on 1st September morning.
It was an hectic week since last Monday, so no blogging for me for nearly 7 days.
Since TM is not obliging enough to provide telephone line, looks like blogging will be sporadic for a while.

While we are at it, can “pendatangs” (immigrants) celebrate Merdeka?

The Star quiet on MCA anger

Surprisingly, The Star (owned by MCA) did not publish anything yet on the protest by MCA Youth over statement by Bukit Bendera UMNO division head, Ahmad Ismail who said the Chinese were “squatters” during a ceramah for Permatang Pauh by-election.

MCA youth says:

Since independence, Malaysians have worked hard to stay together as one to build the country. But now, just days ahead of Merdeka celebrations, such comments are being made. We are very disappointed, MCA Youth leader Hang Cheng Peng told reporters.

They demand an immediate apology and explanation:

MCA Youth has submitted a letter yesterday demanding an open apology,
retraction and a promise not to make similar statements in the future.

MCA Youth KL launched signature campaign to condemn Ahmad which a Deputy Minister also signed (Wee Ka Siong – going for MCA election soon).

Gerakan also do not intend to be quiet. Its Penang Youth member issued press statement asking Prime Minister and Deputy to take action (maybe he is joking!)

Note that only those “youth” fellas are making a fuss.

Anyway, this made me think. If Chinese are squatters, then Indians are…?
