SHAH ALAM, MON:
A Hindu man today filed a habeas corpus application to seek the release of his wife, whom he said was illegally detained by the superintendent of the Baitul Aman Faith Reform Centre since Jan 8.
V. Suresh, a bus driver, said the detention of his wife, Siti Fatimah Abdul Karim, was against the law because Baitul Aman was not gazetted as a detention centre.
In the application filed at the High Court (Criminal Division) Registry here through Messrs Karpal Singh & Co, he named the superintendent of the reform centre in Batang Kali and Selangor Islamic Religious Council as respondents.
Suresh said he married Siti Fatimah according to traditional Hindu rites on March 10, 2004 at a Hindu temple in Melaka.
They lived together in Melaka and were blessed with a child, Diviya Dharshini, whom they raised according to the Hindu religion and teaching, he said.
