The tussle  for Perak DMB post is getting ugly. Looks like DAP starting to have “miscommunication” problems! DAP’s CEC (read: Lim Kit Siang) saying that PAS candidate was not endorsed, yet State DAP says it was agreed upon. Do we see a crack appearing somewhere?

I suspect that PKR been the peacemaker, may have to sacrifice the second deputy post and give it to DAP. DAP may claim up to 7 EXCO positions. Balance 3 may go to PKR (2) and PAS (1). Now DAP CEC wants to call for boycott. Will the state DAP follow?

Among the things the state assembly should do is amend such laws.  Let the best man from the biggest winning party qualify.

DAP to boycott Perak MB swearing-in

PETALING JAYA: The DAP central executive committee (CEC) has voiced its unhappiness over the appointment of Perak PAS secretary Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as Mentri Besar of Perak. In a statement on Wednesday, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said, “The DAP CEC has given approval for the formation of a Perak coalition government headed by DAP or PKR but not by PAS.” Lim said DAP leaders, members and supporters are shocked at the decision to appoint a PAS assemblyman as Perak MB.

“DAP is prepared to accept DAP chairman and assemblyman for Sitiawan Ngeh Koo Ham or PKR Behrang assemblyman Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi as Perak Mentri Besar. “As the appointment of Mohamad Nizar as Perak Mentri Besar representing the third and smallest political party in the proposed coalition has not received the mandate of the CEC, DAP Perak assemblymen will stay away from the swearing-in ceremony for Perak Mentri Besar scheduled Thursday.”

While the leading opposition party in Perak, DAP (with 18 seats) met to discuss who they would support for the state’s Menteri Besar position, PKR held theirs in Segambut, Kuala Lumpur. Although, it was not known what was discussed in the closed door meeting, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim told the media that there was a likelihood that the next Perak MB will be from PKR.

On the suggestion that DAP might have a problem with nominating one of their own as the next MB as there is a state criteria of having a Muslim as the head of state, Anwar gave a mixed answer.

No the DAP is not troubled by the Muslim criteria. I’ve spoken to YB Lim Kit Siang, other DAP leaders and have been in communication with PAS leaders. DAP has the most number of seats in Perak but they think that for the smooth transition, we are considering having a Malay MB with a Chinese and Indian participation.”

Asked if a PKR representative would be picked instead, he said, “There is a likelihood and we will discuss this further”.

Right policies for Indians

On requests for Hindraf’s legal advisor M Manoharan be made a deputy Menteri Besar in Selangor, Anwar said that it was not the right time to discuss that now. “We respect their demands. But what is important now is the kind of policies we can formulate to help the marginalised Indians and not the matter of positions they can get.”

Regent’s consent sought to form Perak govt

IPOH: The DAP, Parti Keadilan Rakyat and Pas will be meeting the Regent of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, at 4pm today at Istana Kinta here to seek his consent to form the next state government. PKR state liaison chairman Zulkifli Ibrahim said all three parties had come to an understanding to co-operate in forming the state government should they win enough state seats in the 12th general election.

In a surprise move, the three parties were reported by Bernama to have nominated Perak Pas liaison secretary Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, who won the Pasir Panjang state seat, as menteri besar. This is despite the DAP holding the biggest share of seats won in the silver state. It won 18 state seats, against six for Pas and PKR’s seven.
“We do understand that the state constitution says the menteri besar must be a Malay Muslim, but until we actually receive royal consent, nothing can be considered as finalised.” Section 12(2) of the State Constititution provides the Sultan the discretion to waive the requirement should he consider it expedient to do so.
