malaysian traumatised with double price attack

Of all the days, yesterday we decided to go to Sunway Pyramid. We braved the heavy downpour and reached Sunway around 5.50pm. While ordering dinner, received the first bad news from neighbour – petrol increased to Rm2.70. Immediately lost my appetite. Felt guilty spending so much on dinner!

Original plan was to get spectacles, so we went around few shops. At about 8pm, announcement was made over the PA that traffic jam was quite bad around Sunway and LDP area. While at a spectacle shop, received second bad news – my soon-to-be renovation contractor called and told that cement bag price increased from RM13 to RM16 with immediate effect. He was worried about losing business and forsee a bleak time ahead. As for me, have to re-evaluate the renovation plan. 🙁

Left Sunway at 9.05pm and got stuck in traffic jam about 500 metres from Sunway LDP toll. Took us 1 hour 45 minutes to cross the toll and reach Binary College. Found the reason for the massive jam – cars lining up at Mobil station next to Binary College!

While in the car, I contacted friends all over the country, and received the same feedback – traffic jams in Damansara, JB, Penang, KL, Ampang, Putrajaya etc. Most were also worried about the impact.

After a tiring day out the day before, we got up a bit late and packed up. Time to leave the cool environment and head back to dusty and hot KL 🙁 Took break fast at the Indian restaurant in Brinchang. Mee goreng was quite tasty, but their tea lacked oomph. Then, time for shopping. Specifically, we wanted to get some potted plants for our house. First stop was along the area after Equatorial Hotel (Not Kea Farms, but the other way, leading towards Simpang Pulai). There are some rows of shops which sell plants and vegetables. We bought some goldcrest plants there.

We had to stop at Raju Hill Strawberry Farm to get some strawberries and also their famous strawberry milkshake (one of the reasons why went to Cameron Highlands in the first place!)

After ending Day 1 on a happy note, we started the second day with a search for breakfast. Finally took noodles at a Chinese restaurant at Brinchang. Our first stop was the Big Red Strawberry Farm located at Brinchang town itself. Its near the Cactus Valley and across the road from the pasar malam site. This place was set up about 3 years ago, and it primarily exports salad to overseas markets. The also sell many kinds of flower plants. While were there, there were construction work to expand the area. According to one of the workers, lots of tourists visit this place. They plan to built a car park and more plantation area. The souvenirs are a bit expensive compared to other place, but the area is big and cooling.

Cameron Highlands beckoned again. I was there in early April and managed to visit Sungai Palas Boh Tea Centre. Last week, I had more time to go around since it was a mini vacation. Then wanted to get her hands on strawberry milkshake, so off we went to Cameron Highlands.

As usual, I took the Simpang Pulai exit. Its about 50++km from the toll exit to Equatorial, and takes slightly more than an hour’s drive.

Our first stop was just before Equatorial Hotel. We stopped at Cameron Valley Tea Shop. I had tea (RM3!) and we took some pictures of the tea plantation there. Nothing great there. The lady at the counter was not cheerful nor tourist-friendly enough (err…maybe we didn’t look like one!). All my questions received one line answers. Perhaps need to send them for training – how to promote the business and Cameron Highlands.

Taken at agricultural farms near Kluang, Johor.  A place called Modern Agricultural Project (Projek Pertanian Moden). The organic restaurant cum farm is along the road side. It is about 10km from Air Hitam exit, towards Kluang town.
