KUALA LUMPUR: One of the country’s foremost opthamologists, Datuk Dr Keshmahinder Singh, died yesterday of old age. He was 85.

He was instrumental in initiating the setting up of the Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital in 1986 and had contributed towards the development of eye care in the country.

His nephew, Ashvinder Singh, said Dr Keshmahinder had been warded at the Pantai Medical Centre for the past three weeks as he was not feeling well.

DESPITE her hectic schedule tending to her young child-ren, housewife G. Muru-gayee still has time to do cha- rity work and help the less for-tunate. 

Every day, Murugayee, 46, will ferry ill and destitute patients to and from Ipoh Hospital. 

She also travels from her house in Taman Wah Keong, Ipoh, to visit inmates at an old folks home in Langkap, about 70km away, and attend to their needs. 

She organises religious talks and functions for the young to boost their self-esteem.

PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal has fixed Dec 12 to hear the appeal of Sjn M. Moorthy's widow against a High Court's decision not to disturb the declaration that the Everest climber was a Muslim because the matter was under the jurisdiction of the Syariah Court.

What about the right of the parents to choose education for the children. We have opened up to allow home education, and enrolment in private schools, but can transfer to vernacular school?
