Well, I hope it does not turn out to be another dream like 3 Indian EXCOs.  Anyway, I don’t think the speaker has power out of the assembly hall. His job is basically to control the assembly proceedings. Does he chair any committee or take other responsibilities? Being a speaker may well mean that the chosen assemblyman can’t raise any issues or protest since he will be seating as arbitrator in the hall. » Read more: Indian speaker for Perak state assembly

The Star carried an article on Sivasubramaniam saga in Perak that sounded more like an intriguing political drama movie. Claims of rm15 millio carrot to jump parties, politican veteran who advises Sivasubramaniam,  lobbying in Tamil newspapers, Kesavan defect rumour, dubious degree, and the idea that Sivasubramaniam has indeed been offered some unknown position. Interesting read. Only time will tell if its true. » Read more: More to Sivasubramaniam Saga than meets the eye

PM was talking about equality, or the lack of it, that the Penang government plans to adhere to by using open tender system and pledging to be transparent. He says equality is not same as fairness. Yes, true to a certain extent. However, the opposite of being equal (using discriminative evaluation), means unfairness if the factors considered are irrelevant or not able to improve on the quality of work. My take is forget on worrying about equality or fairness. What the rakyat wants in quality. That should not be compromised. There should be some programs to help the under-privileged, the poor, the disabled, the budding entrepreneurs etc, but not at the expense of  other groups or by sidelining others.  If  not, the programs will be misused by selected few , resulting in more unfair distribution. » Read more: take the e out of equality
