Samy Vellu hits back at Hindu Rights Action Force

PUTRAJAYA, FRI:

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu today launched a stinging attack against a non-governmental organisation, the Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF), which claimed that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government had done little to address the woes of the Malaysian Indian community over the last 50 years.

“I must state here that if there is anything that affects the Indian community, the MIC will be there to fight it out even when we are partners of the Barisan Nasional. To me, I have never remained idle and I don’t waste time,” Samy Vellu, who is also Works Minister, told Bernama today.

The MIC supremo was asked to comment on a 18-point memorandum by HINDRAF, which was handed to the Prime Minister’s office last Sunday by the organisation’s chairman P. Waytha Moorthy, secretary V.K Regu and its legal adviser P. Uthayakumar.

Apart from stating that the Indian community was marginalised by the BN government, in the memorandum, HINDRAF also wanted an end to special privileges given to Malays. The memorandum also took a dig at Umno asking the largest political party in the country to “stop playing politics” through the “mandore” (supervisor) system by dishing out aid to the Indian community on a piecemeal basis.

Dear Killer, I am impress that you still support UMNO when there’s so many melayu being poor. I guess we malays can see the difference between UMNOputra(rich) and Bumiputra(poor) Do we need UMNO?? My dad is actually a farmer in Melaka but not an UMNO member. So there’s no handouts from UMNO whatsoever cause my family didn’t join UMNO. But then again, being a traditional farmer and breeder, kita keluarga tak payah begantung kepada UMNO. It would be an insult to melayu or us malays to depend on UMNO for handouts. So the answer is do we still need UMNO?? NO. Second, while I agreed with Killer that a lot of pakistani and bangladeshi and also indonesians are coming to Malaysia to work, you also see a lot of Malaysians migrating to other countries and doing better then most Malaysians here. Even 1/3 of Singapore are powered by Malaysians who work in Singapore(most of them chinese Malaysians) The world is a free market beyond boundaries, people can go to anywhere to work. Base on statistics, there are more indians and parkistani going to UK to work compare to coming to Malaysia(base on statistics 2005/2006) why some bangladeshi and pakistani cannot go into France or Italy is because the govt have ban them from entering. But our Malaysian govt encourage them to come to Malaysia, so there’s an influx of foreigners here. Unfortunately, the past few weeks, our Govt have canceled a foreign partnership between Proton and Volkwagen. And also force telenor to surrender their major shareholding in DIGI to maintain their telco license in Malaysia. Why not ask the pakistani, indonesians and also Bangladeshis to invest in DIGI shares and also Proton??? Hey, Killer, the only reason pakistanis, indonesians and bangladeshis are coming to Malaysia is because they want to find a job and sent money back to their own country lar. Just because they come to Malaysia and work does’nt means that they hate their own country and love Malaysia. Killer, Please have soon logic when you argue on statistics. Well our govt did try to encourage americans, russians, scotlands, aussies and also chinese to come to Malaysia to work but unfortunately the pay is too low that’s why no australians are coming to Malaysia to work. Killer, pls use your brains, the foreigners dun come to Malaysia because they love Malaysia, they come to Malaysia to make money and sent money back to their own country. If the Bangladeshis really love Malaysia, they would have given up the Bangladesh citizenship and apply for citizenship here by marrying a malay.
Lastly, Killer…It is not me who is bitching about UMNO, the whole world is laughing at UMNO cause UMNO is so proud to send a space tourist to space under a russian spaceship(not so patriotic to travel in a russian ship rite) and still be proud, hahahaha do you know the money spend on sending this so called angkasawan using a russian ship to space can feed thousands of poor malaysians for many years??? UMNO is bringing shame to orang melayu and and shame to Malaysia. To let you know, I myself feel ashamed to be a bumiputra. Do you still feel proud, Killer???

hei cmon la why do you indians are not greatfull for our country..for instance in u.s. black people get beaten and discriminated by americans..shouldn’t al indians be greatfull that we live in a country that s peaceful…cmon lah even the police guards indian ceremonys…what mo do you need to say…I’m on neither side but I’m so dissapointed by comments made by these indians at the gatherings recently saying there is no democracy in this democratic country..near aplayground near my house there was two indian men who in the night drank alcohol and smashed the botol on the road and guaes what a chil fell from his bike and injured his knee cap and it was all because these two indian men smashed the botol and the glass punctured the kids bysical tyre …even though the residents was aware of this they never spoke a word because they do not ruind the peace of this place…what more do you want… if these indians say that indians are treated like slaves it is their own fault…if they were to learn hard in school study hard in school they wouldve been millionairs when they grow up but no…now days I see indian student at school are causing havoc at school and sometimes they disturb other students that are studying their ass off….what more do you want….think twice before you do anything…..remember this is malaysia our country….we even have the tallest statue of a hindu god that is the largest in the world…enough said

MP: hi friend, thanks for the support. rest assured, i won’t be able to buy a bicycle to travel around with income from my blog. 🙂

Dear all attendees at Hindraf gathering,

Now you know what we (whovever attend BERSIH gathering – mostly Malay) had suffered in the hand of government’s dogs. We had suffered that during reformasi time. We had realised that long time ago that the gov is unreliable, unfair, corrupt and oppressing. Now is your lesson and we hope you learned your lesson.

NOW, Lets us all (malay, chinese, indian and others) throw the current government in the coming election. I was neutral before, but now I’ll support any opposition to BNtang. You wont be successful just by using Hindraf, WE MUST BE UNITED, ALL RACES, THROW AWAY BN- understood?! If the new gov did the same as BN, we throw them again & again until we got the right & honest one.

  17. Citizen says:

    Dear readers,

I am a Malaysian Indian and have read all your comments posted on this blog on the above issue.

I do agree that Indians in this country have been marginalised mostly by the policies of the government. It is good that some attention is paid to the plight of the Indians but at what price?

There are avenues to voice out your dissatisfaction. Why call thousands of Indian to converge to hand over 1 memorandum? What point were the oganisers trying to prove?

It was such an insult who see protestors carrying pictures of the late Mahatma Gandhi who professed the road of Ahimsa (non-violence).

In the past 50 years, the government hasn’t been transparent but did it stop us from succeeding?

There are many Indians out there who, despite being from the estates, actually had put in some hard work and succeeded. The same goes for the Indian in urban areas. Though we had a ‘disadvantage’, so to speak, many of us have succeeded.

Our path to success? HARD WORK and DETERMINATION. We went to government schools, studied hard, left school with flying color, got into universities (public/private) – with/without government scholarships we managed to secure ways to finance our studies – and got into public/private sectors where we work hard every day to bring home the dough and improve the social and financial standing of our families and community.

If we did ever face difficulties, we seeked help from the NGOs and government agencies, who were always there. We seeked for help. We never waited on someone to pass us our success on as silver platter.

Young Indians nowadays want to spoon feed. They wanted flying colours without studying, place in universities without merit, jobs with high salaries, and everything by just sitting in one place.

WAKE UP! Everything in this world is not fair! This country is not fair! Does that justify you sitting and complaining about it? No. Get up and do something about it. Don’t wait for the government to help you out. Coz they won’t.

Well, if we don’t voice our frustration, how will the government know about the difficulties we face, you ask. There are avenues. Legal and non-violent. You just have to look for them.

Look at the realities first. Numbers matter. We, Indians, make up 7% of the Malaysian population n yet after 50 years of independence, we only have 2% equity in the country. How do we improve this? By getting more involved in uplifting the society. Thru EDUCATION! Once we have the numbers, the government will be forced to listen to us! N that, realisticly speaking is not gonna happen any time soon. Maybe not even in the next 50 yrs if we continue with the attitude we have here.

MIC, who are supposed to be the beacon of the Malaysian Indians in the country are doing what they can do in the ‘restrictive’ BN. All component parties are restricted. But I do agree that they can do more and be more agresive in Cabinet and Parliament. But politics is a game of numbers and we don’t have the numbers.

Why did the crowd get violent, hurl obcenities, distrupt the peace of the city and its residents, break public property, assault the police?

If the rally had been peaceful, like it was intended to be (i’m sceptical about that) – if the crowd, who had defied a court order, had actually restrained themselves from reacting, they would have been seen as the victim. They would have gathered some symphatisers. If you want to make a point, there are sacrificies that you have to make.

Indians in this country were already trying to shake off the illiterate, rowdy, drunk image for the past 50 years. And what had Sunday’s rally done? It has SUPER IMPOSED the notion in the minds of all Malaysians.

THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR LIVES AS INDIANS IN THIS COUNTRY EVEN HARDER!

    Dear MP

This was taken from the official website of the MB of Selangor.

    http://www.mbselangor.net.my/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=1605

This is clearly shows that HINDRAF has mislead Indians and we have let emotion to rule us.

This is not the first time HINDRAF lied to us and all the while it has been using such lies and emotional issues to exploit the Indians for their political agenda.

I see that work with my frens, brothers and sister for a while. After they realize BA has got nothing for future, merely blowing hot air to propegate their leader who are just like yourself “HASAD DENGKI”. I can’t tolerate all your dafamation words towards Bumiputera and UMNO, coz what you have said some of it was out of context and baseless !

  26. the Crawler says:

I will say that this is the correct timing, and a cool oppurtinity to us, as one of major race which are minority in this country to voice out our rights… while our so called & claimed leader Dato Semi Value ismaking empty promises for years… we have someone / unity to call upon our rights at OUR country. What shame is that the gov is always making empty promises than action…. definitly i will go for opposition so there will unity prevail without monopolisation….

my vote for HINDRAF 1 Trillion % !!!

  27. Killer says:

    MP

Thanks for pointing me for the jeff ooi’s site for an alternative view of the incident.

But unfortunately these photos doesn’t show much to back up any claims. And remember that the temple committe had called the police after the crowd turned rowdy. Is this the behaviour of people who claim to be following Gandhi’s principles ?
MP: now, what proof is there that the crowd went rowdy? if we continue this, it will be a merry-go-around, since most likely no one took video of the entire events from a-z. i rely on information from friends who were there, people who have no reason to lie. granted that they may have not seen everything that happened, but so does the media. actually, i’m kind of confused. the temple mgmt says the crowd broke into the temple compound. so that means the one or more of the gates won’t be functioning properly any more. then the reports say the crowd were locked in the temple and not allowed out. so, how was the temple locked? from inside or outside?

But do remember than Jeff is hardly a nuetral or objective person as he is a member of DAP. Those who know Jeff will tell you that he is someone who is prone to exaggeration.
MP: yeah..he writes with lots of added spice and drama. but the pictures did not seem to be doctored. he got it from elsewhere.

But looking at the pics and the Star news, I don’t see anything here that shows that Star or the IGP lied. Can you please point it out to me ?
MP: this statement: “Musa said no tear gas or water cannons were used at the demonstrators during the incident. ” on this post:http://poobalan.com/blog/indian/2007/11/26/igp-musa-hassan-lies-about-batu-caves/ . anyway, today the SAC said they did fire, but not into temple premise, just the compound where the crowd was sitting down.

I don’t think any of the mainstream media carried wrong or misleading reports. But the alternative ones including HINDRAF’s website have a lot of completely false info (like the killing of the boy in Ampang).
MP: i doubt it. the mainstream media chose to focus on one-side of the story. i would accept it if they also asked/interviewed the victims/participants etc. when my source asked people walking around klcc, some were supportive, some non-committal, some opposed the rally. now, that is a bit more realistic. a hungarian couple who were at batu caves told what happened there. they were then escorted out of batu caves and somehow ended up in klcc area. as for hindraf, the mentioned that a third person uploaded the news. however, i’m not sure why it is not removed yet. i think they posted it without verifying.

As for police brutality, obviously participants did claim that but the strange thing is that this was not captured by any of the legion of reporters who were present. You can hardly expect the rally participants to be impartial just like you won’t completely rely on the police’s version.
MP: the police were smart to make sure no media people were around most of the time. my friend was one of the victim. however, there were some shown over al-jazeera. some people have captured scene via handphones. i hope they can upload it into the internet. the situation was a havoc as tear gas makes it difficult to see and hard to take photos/videos by nearby public

Give me impartial accounts of the story and I will agree with you.
MP: it is hard to judge impartiality. my source’s report is being typed. i hope to have done by 2pm today. impartial or not, up to readers to judge.

    Dear DenverMurani,

Datuk Seri Samy will remain as who he was, he deliver result to the many Indians, he provide proper channel, he moderate the power in the Government and in the economy. This is not hooligan job, it’s real hard work and inteligent, amicable, long term and respecful approach to present the minority in numbers and powers. Everyone in the power now has been tackfull to dealt with multiracial issues in Malaysia context. It’s not easy job likewise the oppositor blowing hot air creating disharmony to the majority. It’s okay to fight for Your right ! Malaysian right ! majority right ! whom have the power right ! rich and poor people right ! but only through proper channel, amicable, harmony, civilize, respect, not selfish, moderate and tackfull. For those who support and involve in Hindraf hooliganism, you all have to pay the price of the damage. Government sure will help, Datuk Seri Samy sure will help, but those races who affected by your behavior will not forget, I’ll not forget, the whole next generation will not forget, that for some political mileage of oppositor survival, the whole Nation has been put to a shame. People will re-evaluate who is Indian Hindu is all about, what values they cultivate, what their pride towards nation building, what their view towards Malay and Chinese the core in power races in Malaysia. You will get what you want and what you don’t want too … the price you all Indian have to pay for Hindraf hooliganism.

What it takes for a person to improve their standard of living? basicly hardworking and getting an oppurtunity. So my question is before we argue about oppurtunities are we working hard enough to improve our life, so many youngsters who are busy doing what they are not surppose to do i.e taking drugs, involving in crimes, social problems like falling in love at very young age and we can go on. What is important for any community let it be indian or malay it is better to ask yourself what have you done to make your life better before you complain about what people never do for you. As the great JFK said never ask whar the country did for you ask yourself what have you done for the country.
The followers of Hindraf must remmember that their leader is the same person who once run to England and ask asylum there when facing problem so please dont compare people like Mahathma because I am sure all this hoo and haa is for their own personal millage.
For every successful indian there is a story behind them,so if one indian can succeed why another indian can’t, not all the success indian are from good backgrounds there are also poor and rural indias have done well. Dear All Malaysian Indians!

I have been following all the comments posted above. So impressed! We Indians still have the unity amongst us in standing against the unjust. I’m proud to be an Indian by birth.

It is my humble appeal, as much effort put in together to come together in standing against the unjust though we have been obstructed greatly by different “concerned parties”, we need come together in joining force to make sure our younger generation are properly educated. We are the only ethnic group who are still rich in culture. Therefore, it is VERY important for us to make a pledge and make sure the upcoming generation are doing well in the education.

My hats off for the different NGOs who are taking much effort in contributing constructively. But at the same time, I do hear of incidents whereby, teachers in our Tamil Schools are being verbally abused by parents for reprimanding their children. I personally have witnessed certain cases whereby their (parents’)action has de-motivated the teachers.

Let us join our hands together to support the teachers in order to built a stronger community.

Bravo HINDRAF!! Come on people – I have read the comments above. Try and be a little less obtuse/shallow! Try and see the major undercurrents from the recent rallies – by the lawyers, BERSIH and now HINDRAF. And if the powers that be in Barisan Nasional can’t see it – well God help them at the next elections (or “erections” as our Minister of Information would have it!!).

It is the next step that is important – where do the poor of this nation go from here? Not just the Indians but our poor Malay, Portugese, Ceylonese, Punjabi, Bengali, Orang asli, the Kadazan, the Dayaks and Chinese brothers and sisters as well. What next? Ladies and Gents – to ballot box we must go – united in our determination to rid this country of the present crop of politicians who for far too long have been pretending to champion the cause of the people.

It is time to vote off – The Rafidahs and the Najibs and the Samys, the Kayveases, the Ongs and the Lims of this world. And if we don’t seize this opportunity, then we will deserve what we get. Yes there will be massive cheating – just like in previous elections- postal votes will appear from nowhere to save the Sharizats and the Samys and the Najibs – who really have probably never won an election on their own merits. We have to find a way around this problem- we are certainly NOT going to get any help from Badawi – so we will have to help ourselves.

But I believe that if we all work together – we WILL succeed – and HINDRAF has been the catalyst to show Malaysians that we truly have PEOPLE POWER – SYABAS HINDRAF!!!!

    tuah67,

You are right, we orang melayu no need UMNO’s help. Kita keluarga depends on our own ability to work ourself to financial stability. I am proud of tuah67 ability not to depend on the govt for help and same goes for all the poor bumiputras whom work their way up without UMNO. So, if our kerajaan really want to help the poor, then they do not need to be racist. Because there are poor indians, poor malays and poor chinese. Our kerajaan should help all poor irregardless of race. Am I right, Encik tuan67?? Allah god almighty, have eyes to see that our kerajaan is bias and treat poor people like 2nd class citizen irregardless of race. Why dun our kerajaan just give land to the indians to build temples?? That will stop the indians from protesting right? So, if our kerajaan is really sincere and honest in helping the poor, then they no need to resort to skin color and race right? Encik Tuan67, do you pay taxes??? Would you like your taxes to go to the poor melayu or go to the rich sami vellu??? Or if all melayu is rich, would you like to see the taxes you paid go to the poor indians?? Once again, it is not patriotic that our Angkasawan sits on a space ship that belongs to Russia. It is patriotic that our Angkasawan sits on a Proton spaceship to go to space. So where did all the taxpayer money goes??? Off course to UMNO’s cronies pocket!!! which include Encik’s tuan67 taxes…right unless you are saying that the taxes you paid goes to the poor indians, anyway how sure are you??? Or how sure are you that the taxes you paid it is going to the poor bumiputra, are should all taxes paid by all races must go into the pockets of the rich UMNO?? Anyway, why should we poor melayu continue to pay taxes when we see no progress in our govt efforts to help the poor irregradless of race color?? Are you trying to be racist, encik tuan67??? Please reply….the poor bumiputra.

    Dear Indian Friends,

Please note that ‘ god will help those who are willing to help themselves’. The BN government, Samy Vellu, MIC, etc was not effective in helping Indians to succeed. Given and agreed.

So what? Many Indian who came to Malaya ,struggled and uplift the next generations. We have thousands of Indians who transformed their life from being a poor estate kids. The parents struggled. We should do the same. Don’t behave like victims. We are not a race of ‘welfare’ mentality. We are a race with ‘manam’ and intelligent. We can face challenges and strive. Please, don’t expect symphaty and support. This is a globalized world. Work hard within your area of influence. Work hard to help your kids to succeed in school. Work hard to instill good religious and moral values to your kids. Help them to be a good human. Sit down with them for the ‘kalvi viratham’Be prepared to work anywhere in the world. Remember , the globalization.

Meanwhile, the good work of Hindraf leaders should continue to instill positive values , strength, discipline, hard work, dedication, intelligence, etc. We are a global citizen. Don’t limit our focus on a small 28 million population economy.

Please remember, we will attract what we focus on. If we focus on poverty, discrimination, etc. that’s what will be attracted.

Work hard, pray hard, play smart and enhanced your emotional Intelligence ( EQ ) to be a good neighbour with all the people we share the country . Please don’t blame others for your condition. Please be responsible – ‘ able to respond creatively to attract the desired outcome’.

    Major Praba
