He seem to have some support in Kuala Selangor. Even my niece says he is nice person. But how much of that support translates to votes will be known tomorrow. All the best to Parthiban.
Parthiban draws from experience gained during Ijok by-election
By Y.P. SIVAM and ELAN PERUMAL
THE Barisan Nasional candidate for the Bukit Melawati state seat, K. Parthiban, is a football fan. As a young boy, he was the chief striker for his school, SMK Sultan Sulaiman Shah in Batang Berjuntai, and had scored important goals for his team to be the kingpins in the Kuala Selangor District Schools Sports Council (MSSDKS) football competitions.
Eleven months ago, Parthiban turned striker again when the Barisan picked him to contest the Ijok by-election following the death of the then assemblyman Datuk K. Sivalingam. In the keenly contested by-election, Parthiban, a die-hard Manchester United fan, disposed of PKR’s Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim with the help of his strike partners in the Barisan. Now, Parthiban, who admires diminutive former England skipper Kevin Keegan, will be eager to emerge winner in the Bukit Melawati state seat.
“I learnt a lot during the Ijok by-election. The experience gained is helping me in the campaign in Bukit Melawati,” he said. “I am living in Taman Paduka, which is part of the Bukit Melawati state constituency. I have also been a teacher in SMK Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah in Kuala Selangor. “The voters in Bukit Melawati are familiar with me, and I am aware of their problems.”
The 39-year-old Parthiban, a bachelor, is facing PKR’s Muthiah Mariam Pillay. Bukit Melawati, in the parliamentary constituency of Kuala Selangor, has 12,897 voters. And, come polling day, don’t be surprised if Parthiban, just like his idol Keegan, comes up winner in Bukit Melawati.
