NGOs: Put house in order before leaving
KUALA LUMPUR: Several Indian-based organisations want MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu to step down, but not before putting his house in order. They said Samy Vellu realised that the Indian community had to be united to be heard, thus the reason for him to invite everyone, including his one-time sworn enemy Datuk S. Subramaniam to work with him. Some said it would take a great effort for the two to work together for the betterment of the community.
Malaysian Hindu Sangam president Datuk A. Vaithilingam said:
He should bring together all the Indian-based groups and place capable leaders in the MIC as soon as possible and withdraw honourably.
Malaysian Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry deputy president V.M. Samy said that :
Samy Vellu has taken a bold move by rejecting a senatorship. “Now he has to work hard and get the Indian people together and strengthen the MIC’s position before he steps down. Everyone makes mistakes.
Malaysian Indian Businessmen Association president P. Sivakumar said:
MIC will be in chaos if Samy Vellu steps down now. He has to put things in order.
Malaysian Indian Youth Development Foundation chairman Datuk Kenneth Eswaran said that:
in rejecting the senatorship, Samy Vellu was showing that he is interested in rebuilding the party and also in helping out the community. “The MIC ship is in distress and it is a good thing that Samy Vellu is not abandoning it,” he said.
