vanakam.the informations regarding scholrships and higher education studies are helpful to spm leavers as what i am.since then i still seek more infomations based on my spm results and hope you can share with me some ideas about it.i got 8a’s ,1b and 3c’s(add maths, physics, chemistry) in my spm.in future i want to persue studies in medicine field as my ambition is to be a doctor specialist in psycology.please help me by sending some infomations refarding this.thank you
regards,
rubini
Thank you for you valuble info about courses and scholarships. Me too seeking more infomations based on my spm results and hope you can share with me some ideas about it.i got 5 A1’s(BI, Moral, sejarah, maths, Tamil Lite.) ,5A2’s(BM,Add Maths, Fizik, Kimia Bhs Tamil) 2B3(Bio,EST) in my spm.in future i want to persue studies in medicine field as my ambition is to be a medicine doctor .please help me by sending some infomations refarding this.thank you
Hi,
you got 10As so try applying for the JPA scholarship which is open until 18th March. However, your Bio marks didn’t get A1, so it will be hard to get the scholarship.
After applying, send a copy of the application (print the page) to MIC HQ as they are compiling data on applicants for JPA scholarship.
2. there are many local colleges/unis that offer scholarship (cover tuition fees) for foundation/pre-med and subsequent program. go to the education fair in midvalley. sunday is last day.
3. there are some placement agents – again, go to the education fair. you can meet many companies there and try get a good deal.
4.Apply for foreign unverisities. after studying one semester in a JPA-approved foreign university, apply for JPA loan (up to rm200,000).
5. you can also consider medicine related fields – dental, physiotherapy, biomedicine etc as alternatives.
6. Pls watch Astro on Sat/Sun night 9.30pm (Vannavil). I think they will have a call in session.
7. On my blog, i listed few other people who can also give consultation – EWRF, HEI, Putera MIC. Pls call them up as well.
Hi there! thank you for the relevent informations on scholarships & higher education studies posted in ur website. Those informations are really helpful for a SPM leaver like me. However, I would be happy if you can share valuable ideas regarding the applicable ways to persue medicine course based on my SPM result. I’ve got 6A1’s(BM, ENG,MATHS,MORAL,SEJARAH & EST), 3A2’s(BIO,CHEMISTRY & ADD MATHS) & a B3 in my PHYSICS. My parents does not have the means to finance my entire tertiary education so, I have to”SAY SORRY TO PRIVATE COLLEGES/UNIVERSITIES”…Are there any other ways for me to persue medicine without causing any financial difficulties to my family?
Hi,
You got 9As with A2 in Bio and Chemistry. You can try for JPA scholarship, but the competition is very tough. Please send a copy of your application to JPA. You can also try AIMST and approach MIC for some help for scholarship/fee reduction.
Alternative is to look out for those scholarships that cover medicine studies. For this, you have to keep an eye on local papers (utusan/star etc).
Next, try STPM and get 4As. This is only route to local uni other than JPA-sponsored SPM leavers and also matriculation program.
I won’t discount private uni/colleges as some of them will offer good tuition fee discounts for your results. if you can get a good deal, why not take it? even if you get 50% discount on fees, it will be about 75-80K spread over 5-6 years. studying locally means the cost of living can be controlled and managed.
remember, 6700 over students for straight As. JPA offering 2000 places only. Every indian student I meet wants to do medicine. all wants scholarships. its a very tough fight.
My son just took his SPM result.
He got Bahasa Malaysia 6C, Bahasa English 2A, Moral 7D, Sejarah 7D, Maths 8E, Fizik 7D, Add English B, Science B and Technology B.
He is interested in doing Degree in Buss Administration.
I kow his result are poor. Is there any college or university can provide degree for this result with PTPL loan.
Please advise. Thank you.
Thila
Hi Thila,
SPM leavers cannot do Degree program. They have to take a diploma or a ‘foundation” program. Your son is lucky that his BM got credit and have three credits at least (C and above), meaning he can apply for local uni (many of them). He can also apply for politeknik. Refer the links in “Application” page to make online application. Remember that need to get BSN Pin number. And deadlines are coming closer. better hurry.
sir i got 3A,3B,3C and D in my spm exam.My A is in Bm,bi and moral..and my science subjects all are C..so i would like to have loan or scholarship..can i hav it
Hi Thiaga. Loan is not a problem (PTPTN can). Scholarship is very hard as you got 3As only. Depending on your interest, you may continue STPM, or apply for diploma programs in local universities. You can also try for politeknik courses.
sir how but if i wan to do medicine with this results
hmmm…medicine? possible in private college. No chance in public university. Check out AIMST or any other colleges’ open day and then talk to them.
hi sir, i got in SPM 6c in BM,SEJ N ADD MATHS,5C in BI,PEND.MORAL,7D in BIO,PHYSIC,CHEMIS N EST.lastly me got in MATHS 4B.but my ambition is to be a pharmacist.can i take that kos.me aso plan to take STPM science stream.it is possible to take STPM???? plz help me sir
Hi,
you got 6 credits, but the science subjects quite week. pharmacy requires A usually in bio/chemistry. very difficult for public uni and scholarships. you can try at private colleges, but have to take one year foundation or do diploma first. STPM can take, but check with the school, maybe you can take combination of maths and science subjects.
thank u very much sir.so i try to get stpm….thank u alot sir..
is there changes for me to get STPM???? PLZ REPLY SIR.HOPE U WILL GIVE A GOOD SOLUTION FOR THIS MATTER.
please refer above reply.
hi..im very confused about what to do next..im a spm leaver.im interested in aviation.im a arts student..got 1A,4B,4C in spm.can u help me…
well you are arts student but want to study aviation. lacking Physics subject. Aviation covers wide area from maintenance to engineering. Perhaps you have to ask in some of the colleges if can apply and succeed. remember there’s few education fairs coming up. visit them and get more details.
I have checked a lot of colleges.there are few only giving this course.how about aircraft maintenance sir?is it suitable for me?but actually i dont know much about aviation.many people tell that it is hard.please help me sir,im totally confused what to do next.i would like to be someone successful sir.
well, everything is hard. no such thing as easy in life. you must have the interest and the energy. I worry that without background in physics, you may find it even harder to study aviation. you have to see your science and maths results as well. Does it reflect your interest in engineering based course?
if can, go to those college offering the program you are interested in and talk to them. visit at least 3 places so that you get a balanced view. don’t sign up at the first place you go. look at the syllabus, and see the work the students do.
Remember, success does not automatically come with your studies. Regardless of what you enrol and study, its getting good results, learning as much as you can, and willing to work hard that make you a success.
I understand sir.my results are 3B in BM and BI,5C in P.moral,2A in science,5C in maths,4B in geografi,6C in sejarah,4B in P.seni and 5C in Ekonomi Asas.im from ipoh sir,i have visited a place here regarding this course but it seems the place is not good and im not satisfied with it.ok sir i will check about aircraft studies more.i know a fren brother who studying this course.i will check with him sir.one more thing sir im willing to work hard to be success.especially for my parents sir.
you can also try apply in politeknik. they offer diploma in aircraft maintenance.
i hav applied 2 al politeknik through online sir but as i know there are 1 politeknik only offers this course.what is sir’s opinion on the course i have choosed?can i cope with it?
yes, i think only one poli offers it. i think so, you have to study hard. there’s not such thing as easy in any course, any subject.
ok sir i will really study hard.thank you very much sir..
Hi,
I Failed in Pure Maths and had principles in PA, Chemistry and Fizik.
Can i know should i re sit for Pure Math in July 09. Can i know the due date to register..
Thanks.
Regards,
Naleena.
Hi Naleena,
I’m not sure of STPM resit procedure. Pls check with your school immediately.
hai sir . how r u? i just see ur interview on astro yesterday. it was very nice. i have something to ask u ? first ,what course i can join to further my study? then , i thought i wanted to be a policewoman or nurse, but my parents ask me to apply for accountant or teaching coursess. i also think about management in hospitality and interior home desingningn . and ,i also need some website of maktap perguruan
my result are
bm :3b
bi:3b
maths:2a
sains:2a
sejarah:5c
add. maths:6c
accounts:5c
economics:5c
tamil:2a
moral:1a
hi, I’m not sure what you mean by “further your study”. i suppose continue form 5. of course parents prefer a stable job like accounting or teaching. the other jobs you mentioned – policewoman, nursing, hospitality, and interior design have good prospect. ultimately depends on your interest, your long term ambition, your results.
click here for list of institusi perguruan (its no more maktab).
you got 4As, 2Bs, 4Cs. means all at least credit. BM and Math credit and above, so no problem. For your results, i suggest try teaching (primary school). accounts you got 5C, so need to think if you are really interested in it. your science, maths have A, so perhaps something related to teaching/nursing is fine. As for interior design, need to ask yourself if have interest and creativity in you. you also can apply local uni for diploma programs for some of the options above. hospitality and interior design, i think have to try in politeknik. whatever it is, go to BSN and get all the pin numbers – one for UPU, one for teaching, and one for politeknik.
abaut maktab perguruan
what about it?
hello sir…i have watched ur interview in astro vaanavil (vizhuthugal)..my STPM results are not good.i got B+ in PA, C- in biology and i have failed in my MATH and CHEMISTRY(F)..if i apply for teaching, can i get a chance for it? Thank you(“,)
Hi,
I think for teaching course in USM, you need 3 passes, with minimum B. not sure about others. You can check in the syarat khusus or the universities in the UPU website. Remember that need to have strong points, so please also check Satya’s blog for the relevant cut-off points. His blog address is in the “guidance” page.
what is sir’s opinion on the course i have choosed?can i cope with it?
well, your science got 2A, so i think can go for aircraft maintenance. my nephew also applied for same program (Science 2A, Math 5C).
Sir,
im a science class student who just got my result.i got oni 3 credts..including bm.eng..and est.im confused about my futher studies.please help me and give me a good solution sir..thanks
hi,
well, you have to ask yourself – why got the results as such and which subjects you enjoyed studying.
2. you can look at courses offered in politeknik and kolej komuniti – you can apply for certificate level of most courses.
3. you can apply for certificate courses in Institut Latihan Perindustrian (ILP). check the courses and see which you think interests you.
4. you may try resit SPM, but that depends on your ambition. what is your ambition?
Helo sir,
my spm result
BM-3B
BI-2A
Moral-2A
Sejarah-3B
Maths-2A
Add Maths-5C
Physics-7D
Chemistry-4B
Biology-4B
EST-5C
im intrested in doing law or teaching…
is there any chances to do in goverment..
Hi, you got 3 As. for law, have to do matriculation or STPM.
for teaching (primary school) deadline was sunday. so, next option is STPM. you can also try unitar/unisel as their teaching program is accepted into government service.
Hi sir,
I’m looking for pysiotherapist courses, near PJ and KL area, which college that I can go.
Thanks
well, there’s plenty of colleges in PJ/KL that offer the course. I think nearly 20 of them! i can’t list all of them but here are some options: Masterskill, MAHSA, SEGI. I think many colleges are introducing these health-related courses, so do go around visiting few colleges before enrolling.
Sir, my daughter SPM result are BM- 5C, BI- 3B, Maths – 2A, Sejarah-4B, Kimia- 4B, Physics- 5C, Biology – 5C, Add Maths- 6C, Moral -2A and EST-7D.
I have applied for KPLSPM. Is her result ok to apply this teaching program?
I also suggested her to do STPM. Any comment on this. What is the best idea?
She wants to be a teacher.
Tq.
Hi,
well, i think she meets the minimum requirements. get or not, depends on the course demand and results of other applicants as well. so, no harm trying for KPLSPM.
STPM is tough and needs two years sacrifice from her and your family. she has to buck up on science subjects for STPM.
another option for teaching is to enrol in UNISEL/UNITAR teaching degree. its the only two recognised by MOE and can apply for govt job.
Sir,
My daughter was not selected for KPLSPM, so she has to go for STPM.
Since she was in science class, is it possible for her to take arts class for STPM?
I need to know some details on STPM subjects. Where can I get it?
Tq.
Hi Sir,
KPLSPM have rayuan, make sure she completes that step. Form Six placement will be announced soon – can check online at MOE website or at school too. The subjects depends on how the schools package it. Arts class means taking totally new subjects (if she never taken Accounts, Economy, Literature, etc). Best way is to talk to school staff.
Hi sir,
Sir, I need some advise whether KLMU or MSU college for me to choose for my pysiotherapist courses.
Thanks.
i think you better check out few more colleges than just these two.look at the facilities, industry linking, lecturer qualifications, fees, accreditation. personally visit the college before deciding.
ive failed my bm subeject but im interested in continuing my studies.what should i do now
apply for skills based courses in ILP or Kolej komuniti. refer to the “application” page
i hope you applied to take July paper.
sir, i got 3a’s in english, maths n est..3b’s in bm,moral n sejarah…3c’s inadd m3,bio and physics…1d in chem 4 my spm..i also did my foundation in science n i’m waiting 4 my result nw..i wanted 2 do medicine bt with my spm qualification..they told me that i can’t eventhough if i exel in my foundation.. so i tried searching for an alternative and saw an advertisement in tamil newspaper..i called the agent n he told me that it is possible to do medicine in indonesia but i have to sit 4 an entrance test which will cause rm700 jz 4 the entrance test..i also know a friend of mine who did the same n already in indonesia nw..bt i would like to noe wheather is it safe to do medicine this way??he also told me that the universities that they will send us to is recognized by mmc…will i have problem later after finishing my course… plz sir..do help me suggest on this as i’m very confused..thank u..
Hi, where did you do the foundation in science?
there’s is entrance exam for medical seats, and yes it costs money. if you want to do medicine and come back to work in malaysia, you have to study in a govt-recognised uni. the list of recognised uni is available at http://www.mmc.gov.my which the Malaysian Medical Council official website. you can call them up for verifying the indonesian uni name. you also check with JPA website at http://esila.jpa.gov.my/portaljpa.php
for all courses in medicine, the MOHE have to issue No Objection Cert (NOC) saying you are allowed to study overseas. your agent’s job is to do the paperwork etc. The NOC is to ensure only qualified students are allowed to leave the country for further studies. however, being humans, its possible that some may try to cheat/bribe to get NOC.
I think there’s a list of approved agents, but i can’t find it at the moment. you can try with MOHE, MMC, MOH, or MMA to check if such agent is registered or not. also, some foreign uni does not use agents as middlemen, so can also check with the uni.
there’s also some other companies doing such medical seat placement programs. ask around to compare.
one company that acts as agent is GlobalMedicNetwork:http://www.globalnetwork.com.my/Medic/home.phpSome info on NOC and the requirements:Apakah syarat kelayakan minimum yang ditetapkan oleh Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi Malaysia (KPT) bagi seorang pelajar untuk mengikuti program perubatan dan pergigian di luar negara di peringkat ijazah pertama ?Sekurang-kurangnya 3 Prinsipal â??B bagi tahun 2003 atau berikutnya dalam peperiksaan STPM/kelulusan yang diiktiraf setaraf dengannya oleh Kerajaan Malaysia atau PNGK 3.00 untuk Matrikulasi atau Program Asas di peringkat ijazah.14.Apakah syarat kelayakan minimum yang ditetapkan oleh Kementerian Pengajian Tinggi Malaysia (KPT) bagi seorang pelajar untuk mengikuti program pra-perubatan dan pra-pergigian di luar negara?Sekurang-kurangnya 5 Kepujian dengan 4B dalam mata pelajaran Sains dan Matematik dalam peperiksaan SPM/kelulusan yang diiktiraf setaraf dengannya oleh Kerajaan Malaysia. refer more here:http://www.mohe.gov.my/webkpt_v2/soalan_lazim_sub.php?navcode=NAV011&subcode=SUB003
list of appoved uni is also at MOH website:

sir my spm results is 5A1(bi,math,add math,physics,chemistry)3A2(bio,moral,sejarah)2B3(BM,EST)….sir do i stand a chance of doing medicine with my this results……n if i do….do i qualify for a scholarship offer…..tq
yes, you can do medicine. for scholarship, hard to say. did you get interview for JPA?
no sir….because i got a b3 for my bm so i never applied as according to jpa the min requirement is an a2 for bm……so sir is there any other alternatives other than jpa for a scholarship offer…..tq.
well, just keep searching around. for latest scholarships, i’ll post in the blog.
Hi..I jz completed my SPM and gt 11 As. i have applied for JPA. Juz as a plan B if i dun get JPA, I am confused if i should take STPM or A-Levels. If possible i would like to do my undergaraduate later overseas. So, if i do STPM, would i be able to go overseas, or should i do A-levels? which one is better?
Pls help..
Well, if you are, like 100% sure of doing first degree overseas, then A-levels is better option as it gives more choices in terms of courses. If you decide to study in a particular country like Australia, you can go for SAM (south australian matriculation).
STPM can also be used for overseas universities like those in commonwealth countries. Best is to check with the university directly. i can’t find any official list of universities that accepts STPM.
i get 3 a’ in my spm result..which is chemistry,sejarah and mathematics..7 b and 1c..my bm get b4…do i hav a chance to get matriculation offer…??
well, unless you are malay or bumiputra, i doubt you will get a place in government matriculation.
i got 5As( english, add math, chem, math and est) but my physics got C5. i wanna to major in engineering during my degree. so since i din score well in my physics, i hv decided to change my aim into acturial science, but then my cousin told me that acturial science is even tougher than engineering, isn’t true. Need some advice?????? what should i do?????? should i change to business studies?????
well, physics C5 is a bit risky, but engineering has various types that may not require that much of physics as you will focus on certain areas in the majoring subjects. if you are really passionate, then go for it as C5 for me is still ok.
Actuarial science involves heavy maths – the statistical types. so, if you are into maths stuff like theories, sets, probability, statistics, etc – its a good field.
you can’t really compare which is tougher than the other as it also depends on the person, their passion, and hardwork.
business studies is of course more on theories – management, marketing, accounting economics etc.
thanks for the reply. Anyway what program do u suggest cause i’m planning to do my degree in overseas. My dad ask me to take foundation programme cause he say that a-level is quite tough. But i hv asked most of the ppl say that the foundation programme is not well recognised and u r only allow to enter certain universities. What is your opinion??????
first and foremost, what you want to study is dependent on your interest and results. since you are planning for overseas, then finance shouldn’t be a problem i think.
foundation courses are offered by colleges with the idea that you will continue with the degree in their college or under a twinning program with them. so, in that sense, its restrictive because the foundation result will be recognised by selected colleges/universities only. if you want more choices, then its stpm or a-levels, SAM, ADTP, or canadian pre-u etc – these are the standard Pre-University programmes that are recognised world-wide in many many universities.
conclusion-if you already decided which uni and course you want to do, the do the foundation program that is recognised by that uni.
thanks for all the replies. Last few days, i went to help university college to check on their A-level. N i realize that their A-level and sunway university college’s A-level are different. Help offer London A-level whereas sunway offer cambridge A-level. Which one is better????? But London A-level is much more cheaper compare to Cambridge A-level. Tq
i’m not sure which is better. i think the difference is possibly few topics in each subject may be different. other than that, the modules covered in exam may be different. i heard london version have easier resit options compared to cambridge.
I got 7D in physics and intend to repeat the physics paper because I need to get credit in physics to take a pilot license.
What should I do right now?
How to repeat this paper?
as i said earlier, you have to go to PPD (pejabat pendidikan daerah) and register with them. you can also ask your school for info on resit papers. but i think deadline for resit is over already, meaning you can’t do it this year. but better you confirm with PPD or school.
once registered, you study yourself and just go for exam in the place given to you.
hi sir,
my name is malar..im 18 years old girl.
i have a probem in my study sir. When i was form5 i cant sit for spm examination.Because of my family problem sir but now i want to study and im looking for a colege sir..
Did i can go for colege without my spm results sir..
and im at malaca now.i want to go for colege..
my parent wiling to pay for my study.
i need a help..
please sir
thank you,
malar
hi, very few places accept students without SPM cert, and mostly are for skills based certificates only. not possible for professional degrees etc.
you are still very young. just missed SPM exam last year. i strongly advice you take the SPM exam as private candidate next year (this year closing date is over, so not possible). you have to register via any private schools/tuition centers that offer SPM resits or you register with the pejabat pendidikan daerah where you live in melaka. they will inform you when the exam location is (which school), you have to study yourself or go to tuition for extra support.
its ok to miss a year or two because missed SPM last year. don’t compare with your ex-classmates who are now in colleges or universities.
don’t be taking the wrong tracks or wrong programs and regret later. do it properly. SPM is very very important cert.
hello sir,
i juz recently saw ur blog
i got my results 4 spm dis year
i got 9A’s,6A1[BM,BI,MORAL,CHEMI,EST,MODERN MATHS],3A2[PHYSICS,BIO N SEJ],unfortunately i got C6 for my ADD MATHS.
my family r financially stable though any suggestions on scholarships would be really appreciated
my prob is sir,i would like to further my studies in medical field that is to be a doctor to be precise.but i don’t want to do form 6.i applied for JPA.i had been called for the interview but didnt succeed.as for private i f tried for AIMST n all.bt all require me to retake my add maths paper.emotionally hurt at that time i couldnt decide at that time tat i missed my oppurtunity to take the exam dis year.so i can only take the exam next year afta i finished my foundation if i took the foundation dis year.so i decided to wait for matrix or do form 6
i didnt get matrix so now doing form 6.form 6 is really really tough n hard.at 1st i didnt believe it when my sis told.but nw after facing it for 2 months,i really feel it.im scared i couldnt score well like my spm n will regret it later.so my parents n my siblings asked me to do in private.that is to do foundation, but da prob is i f to retake the paper.n i f oso heard that i can apply for a non objection certificate from the government so that i can further my studies without having to retake my add maths paper.1 of the private college that i asked for told me that as my results is good i can ask for that certificate.they oso said i should even give my PMR n UPSR results al for that certificate.plz sir let me know more about the non objection certificate n how do i apply for it.also about any other individual scholarship or sponsorship n will my spm results will be valid next year?
looking forward for your answer sir.
thank you sir,
shree.
Hi,
The no objection cert (NOC) is from minister of higher education and is for studying in overseas universities. usually the agent company that handles students application to oversea uni will take care of NOC. you can try talking to those companies that deal with student placement in places like india, indonesia, middle east, etc.

as for scholarships, most will be given for the current year only. very rare that the scholarship is open to students of previous year SPM. but application to uni, you can still use the SPM results.
hi,,if i want take law after spm…wat can i do?and wat subject is compulsory A to take law??
Steven,
you have to a take a foundation programme or A-Levels before doing degree in Law. At SPM level, not much of a problem, you can be from science or arts stream,.
wat subject need to take A for law?
Steven,

Sir, i’m taking stpm this year (09).. The problem is i’m arts stream student and i would like to do further my studies in engineering.. Is there anyway i can do my degree in engineering after my stpm??
Arun,
you have to start at foundation level in private college, since your STPM does not have engineering/science subjects.
Sir,i will like to ask that if i am not satisfy with my spm results, can i retake it in july paper for biology, chemistry, physics, maths and add maths?it is because i like to take medical but i cant achieve the requirement.
Hi Vincent,
July paper is only for BM and Math, if i’m not mistaken. The rest you have to take in November.
@poobalan, hi,thanks for your information,i will like to ask if i retake it in november,do i require to take all the subjects again, such as bm,english, history and moral?or can i just take biology, chemistry, physics, maths and add maths?
vincent,
you only need to take the subject you want to take. so, its up to you.
hi sir, i’m a form5 student, and i want to be a doctor.. i want to know what is the next step after form5 to pursue medicine in ,malaysia because my parents cannot afford to send me abroad.so sir, can you guide me about the local college and universities that provide A level or foundation programme. Eg sir, what you think bout AIMST, MSU or Manipal,Melaka.
What’s the cost like to complete A levels/Foundation ?
What are the min requirement in SPM to qualify for A levels ?Looking forward for your answer sir.tq
Hi Vicky,
1. you need to do pre-uni program like matriculation, A-Levels, STPM, foundation in science etc. in order to pursue medicine course.
2. the cost of studying medicine in certain countries like romania or indonesia, may be cheaper than in malaysia. do note that you can check the list of govt approved uni and countries at MMC website. you can search this blog for the link.
3. there are many colleges that provide such programs – aimst, surya college, msu, manipal, monash, nottingham, Mahsa, ACMS, PMC, newcastle, UCSI, CUCMS, IMU, Unikl Perak. well, i’m not sure about the quality of the teaching in these places.
4. about cost, i’m not so sure, but a ballpark figure will be 15 – 20k.
5. to qualify for a-levels, no big deal. its a bit like stpm, nearly everyone can enrol. you may need 5 credits, and especially in english. if for medicine, preferably distinction in science subjects.
6. there are some consultant companies that help with placements for medic study search this blog for placements . try also medic ed at mediced.com.my
Dear Sir,
Thank you so much for your guidance on the related matter.Really appreciate that sir..
hello,
my son just completed his spm last month, waiting for his result. i thought it would be good to check with you how to go about in advance.I know his results are not out but he has been a bright student.
He wants to pursue in aeronautical engineering or mechanical and engineering field, may consider electrical field as well.
whats best he do? continue his stpm or enrol him in a colledge?
Thanks.
Hi Mr Visvananda,
Well, all the fields you mentioned are inter-related. He may try to visit some of the colleges and and talks at education fairs etc to gain insight on which field would interest or suit him.
For those families who have decided and have the means, they will enrol in private colleges without waiting for actual SPM results. Nowadays can apply PTPTN (but need to get actual SPM results first).
For those undecided or lack financial capability, have to wait for SPM results and hope that get course of choice in IPTA. if don’t get IPTA, then most students go for STPM and hope to get good results AND hope to get course of choice in IPTA two years later. Its still a game of chance for STPM leavers, that’s why some parents prefer the private college path. So, i guess it depends on you.
You can also take the middle path, enrol him in a college, and when results come out, he can try for scholarships. if he succeeds in IPTA application and gets his choice of course, then quit college and go to IPTA. obviously, you lose some money at the college due to quitting.
Dear sir,
i’d just finished my stpm last year and still waiting for the results. What i want to know is,can i apply scholarships with the stpm result and further my studies in overseas??what if i get a bad results in stpm??then can i apply a scholarship using my spm results? i dont know whether to continue study in local u or go overseas,i always wanted to go study in overseas but my mum thinks it’s a burden for my family. hope you can give me some advice.
Thank you
Hi terressa
1. Yes, you can apply for scholarships using STPM, if the scholarship applications allows it. So, it depends on the scholarship.
2. Obviously if you get bad results, your application will fail. Note that, you can apply once the STPM results are out only, not before.
3. Yes, you can also apply using SPM results but competition is much more tough.
4. studying locally is much more cheaper in nearly all fields. I strongly suggest you discuss with your parents and see how to work things out. They will know the financial situation of the family better. many students want to study in overseas, but that is dependent on results and finance. for some courses, there’s twinning programs or branches here which provide same qualification like Monash, Nottingham, etc.
hi sir, just only got to know about this site by accident.sir, if just completed my spm and waiting for my results.sir,i just wany to know how much will it cost to medicine in india.n sir,i want to be a doctor for sure.so,is foundation in science is compulsory.what would you suggest me to do whether stpm or foundation.kasturi college is actually offering to foundation which will be sponsered by them fully.but after finishing foundation we have to go to the universities that they suggest mostly in indonesia.i also want to know whether indon universities are good for medicine n why foundation is not recognised in india?please sir i need your help.
Hi Devi,
1. Studying medicine in India can cost between 250 – 300k easily. Cheaper options are Indonesia and Russian universities, but still above 200k.
2. Foundation is compulsory if you don’t take STPM or A-levels or other pre-U course.
3. STPM or Foundation – depends on your plan. STPM is option if you plan to study in IPTA mainly, but need to get nearly perfect score, and still a place in IPTA is not guaranteed. So, many students who can afford it, take up foundation programmes.
4. Pls check if the foundation programs and indonesians universities proposed by kasturi college are recognised by MQA and JPA and MMC.
4. Indonesian uni are also OK and is a popular destination because its nearer, the culture is a bit similar, and cost is OK.
5. The foundation offered by local colleges is usually tied to certain universities. So, in case of Kasturi, they link with certain indonesian uni. You can try UNIKL, Cybermed, Surya colleges too, as they also offer foundation.
Hai Sir,
I had problems in family which I cant continue studies.I just studied till form 3 but not completed.Once I wen to jabatan pendidikan in Malacca, they told me that I dont have to sit for PMR.They informed I can sit for Spm.I m 28 years old now.I had hard time to get job.Nw I m working in a call centre as a team leader but paid very less compared to other because I dont have a SPM cert. And I work under contract period with companies whereby my work is not stable. How far is it true i can sit for spm sir?
Hi Dinesh,
I think the Jab Pendidikan is correct. You can sit for SPM exam as private candidate even if you don’t have PMR because you are considered mature student (adult). However, I could not 100% confirm this yet. Bear in mind that you will need credits in BM, Eng, Math, Science at least to consider good prospects. You can take minimum subjects (between 6 to 8 ) and try to get the best result. Register as private student in the pejabat pendidikan near your home.
i haven’t gotten my spm results yet. But i’m dying 2 know if there are any colleges at all that offer finance as an a-level course. And what are the odds of arts stream students with a string of straight a’s getting JPA scholarship? Are they more likely 2 get one than any other science stream student whose is as equally qualified? Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your response would make all the difference in the world 🙂
Hi Curious,
I checked two colleges, but Finance is not listed as a subject in A-Levels. I’m not sure if there’s any colleges offering finance as one of the subjects. You have to call and ask them one by one I guess.
JPA takes students based on the quota for the programs. So, if they provide 300 place for accounting, then the competition is among the students who plan to study accounting. generally, science/engineering programs have higher quota, but the difference is not much. You can expect about 2000 places in total (but need to wait for the actual number to be announced). Then, need to check that against the number of straight A students for 2009 SPM. From there, can work out a rough ratio/odds. I can’t really say what the odds are, but remember that having straight As itself is not the sole criteria, its merely the enabling factor to be short-listed.
what are the other factors involved may i ask?
Hi Curious,
other factors include course of choice, communication skills, co-curriculum activities, financial background etc.
Sir i haven gt my SPM results yet..but may sir advise me anything u know by refering my trial results ?

Thx sir for willing taking out u time to read my comment.
@jackie,
my ambition is being a pilot, physicist, and engineering. What is my option between form 6 and A-level or any other option ?
thx sir
Jackie,
for pilot, i have replied to you other comment – its a license application so its path is different. most airlines would prefer spm or a-levels qualifications, but not all. not worth doing STPM if you want to pilot.
if its physicist or engineering, STPM allows you to apply for mainly local uni (IPTA and IPTS) (and i assume you are non-bumi) but A-Levels allow you wider options (worldwide). if you have the means (money or very good results), then continue foundation in science/engineering or a-levels at private uni.
other than STPM and A-levels, there’s plenty of other options like foundation programs, CPU, ADTP, SAM, etc which basically pre-u programs. they all end up doing the same thing – allow you to take up a degree program. most require minimum of 5 credits, with emphasis on science/math/english subjects. There’s also specific scholarships for SPM leavers like JPA, Mara etc.
another option is to do engineering diploma (credit is between 3 and 5) and continue degree after diploma.
@poobalan,
Sir i m very happy to hear u advice although u r busy around. erm ..now i consider more on engineering foundation …but still consider which college to go among Nilai(no info bou tis), Curtin(my mum say it’s too far, sarawak) , KDU(no info bou tis), and Inti(my fren told me fees are quite expensive)…i ‘ve a headache on which to choose…..On the other hand, depressingly, i have try a few attempts to apply for the JPA through the website http://esilav2.jpa.gov.my/ and http://www.jpa.gov.my/ but it seem no gov scholarship applications(jpa) stated… Had i go to the wrong direction , may sir help me ? thx a lot …
Hi Jackie,
no problem. we try to help as much as possible.
for the colleges you mentioned, try searching http://www.afterschool.my or http://www.studymalaysia.com which provides some basic info on their courses. Next, you can search their website. After that, try attend education fairs near your place (refer the “Education Fair” page in this blog). OR, you can visit these colleges and talk to their counselor. DON’T sign anything, but just gather info and see who can offer the best deal.
JPA scholarship is for SPM leavers, so need to wait till SPM results are announced next Thursday.
@poobalan,
Thx Sir,i will remember to attend for some education fair to get more info …Ont the other hand, are sir mean that after SPM results had came out next thursday only we can go to the JPA website and try to look for the scholarship tat JPA sponsor ? but, will the JPA scholarship given according to priority (1st come 1st serve system for the same numbers of “A”s a candidates acquired) ? i m just worry about this…
Hi Jackie,
Yes, only after SPM results are out. because JPA will give deadline 2 weeks after SPM results are out, so they also have to wait like you 🙂
NO, the JPA scholarship is not given on first come first serve method. Instead, there will be interviews, certain marks based on SPM results and certain marks based on co-curricular activities. during interview, students evaluated on communication skill, thinking ability and so on. for students applying for medical scholarship, there’s evaluation via hospital visits as well. last year, 2000 scholarships given out. this year, no news yet.
@poobalan,
wah…great info from sir…Really shame on how I think before Sir told me these pieces of info…LoL….Erm ..one more question, but 1st of all have to say sorry for disturb,^.^, how JPA elects students to be interviewed ? Is it depend on the “A”s acquired ?
Jackie,
no worries, we learn new things all the time.
well, selection for interview is generally based on results and your co-curricular report. however, its not that transparent and people do complain that some students will less As get scholarship while their own kids didn’t get (always come out in newspapers year after year!)
@poobalan,
Lol…agree…thx for sir answering my problems. ^^ tomorow results will be coming out ^^
Jackie,
Hi Jackie,
You results are quite good since you have 8As. you can try for scholarships if the actual results are equal or better than this. if you get 10As then most colleges give scholarships or huge discount for the fees. JPA scholarship is a bit hard, but not impossible – can give a try as well.
hello, sir.i’m sittin 4 ma spm diz year.da problem iz i don’t knw wat carrier f to choose after my spm.i mean i f x idea wat 2 do aft spm.u hv 2 help me,sir.is there any course in medical field has bright future n highly demanded in malaysia.gimme sum tipz, sir.
thank you.
Hi Nanthiny,
Career path depends a lot on the subjects you are taking now. Since you talk about medical field, i guess you are in pure science or mixed-science class. currently, there’s obviously demand for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, medical lab technologist, etc. malaysia is promoting medical tourism, so you expect more hospitals in the next 5 years or so.
hello sir…sir i jz got my stpm result..n my result r quite bad….. i ony got my CGPA 1.91…Im a science stream student..i want to do medicine…so wat should i do now ,sir??
Hi arul,
i think you need to check yourself, can you cope with medicine course when STPM results are not so good? this is a question that only you can answer.
your options are to take foundation in private college (using SPM results – minimum B in science subjects) and continue with medicine degree. Or you can refer to placement agencies that can advice you on studying in overseas. I’ll be posting list of agents by end of today.
Dear sir. I got 2.58 in my STPMcgpa and that’s not in my expectation so I would like to recheck my results.
I’ve browsing through the mpm official site and already download the application form.
Now what’s in my head is what if the results for that sub is worsen than the previous one after rechecking ?
I mean they would take the higher score by comparing or only accept the after-rechecking results?
Hi Natalis,
obviously its a risk you have to take. chances are the recheck will not make any changes in the results. from my inquiries and talking to others, very few times the results were upgraded. if you ask for rechecking, then the IPTA may ask for the results of the re-checking AFTER it comes out.
hey sir, i get my spm results last year, and i got 4credits only. so what i can do ? i plan to go for degree program, but the program need at least 5credits.
Hi yeong,
you are right in a way. to enter degree via foundation program, you will need 5 credits. the alternatives are:
1. take up a diploma (needs 3 credits) and continue degree after finish diploma.
2. do pre-u program like stpm, a-levels and then continue into degree program.
but can i find a job with a diploma cert ?
heard that it’s hard =/
Yeong,
there’s also jobs for diploma holders, because it depends on the need of the organisations. not all jobs require bachelor degree qualification. you can check jobstreet.com or jobsmalaysia.com.my for some statistics on the job availability based on qualifications.
given a chance, you may continue degree after finishing diploma so that can enter a better job with better pay.
hey sir, i jz took my stpm result but it is quite bad. i jz have 2 C+ for my pengajian am& chemistry.1 C-for math T n D for physics.i plan to go for degree program either in local university or private university. Can you pls give some suggestion??
Hi Phillip,
you’ll need 3 Cs above, but you have two only. So it means you have not met requirement to apply for IPTA. Most IPTS also follow same guideline. so, your option is to do diploma or foundation course in IPTS. you got C+ for chemistry, so may can consider some courses related to that. try colleges like UTAR, TARC, SEGI, UCSI, INTI, HELP, etc. you can try searching suitable courses via afterschool.my or studymalaysia.com
I need to obtain the No Objection Certificate to study in Indonesia. Could you help me with that? Tried asking the Mohe office, they asked me to get into the website. but I could’nt find any guide what so ever.
Hi Jay D,
your placement agent may be able to help you with that. refer here:

dear sir
my son got 2.5 for his STPM .pengajian am B- ,B.Malaysia C+ ,Geografi C+ and Ekonomi B- .He would like to apply for local UKM , UPM , or UM .What course he can apply with his results.Or any suggestion for other universities .
Hi Ms Shanti,
2.5 is not very strong results, so going for popular courses in those uni you mentioned will be very, very tough. I can only tell the same thing as I did to others – check the stpmindians.blogspot.com for the cut-off mark guide and then finalise a list of “which uni, which course”. Remember that some of the courses will have extra requirements, so you need to check the Syarat Khas in UPU website. This whole process may take up your whole weekend this week. You should do this with your son. It won’t make sense to apply for something that not his cup of tea, or something that may not offer him a job later. I rather go for uni which is far rather than doing a course which I am forced to do in a nearby uni.
err btw, the passing marks of spm is how much ? and credit need how many marks to get it ? 🙂
Yeong,
the passing mark is not revealed to public. It varies yearly, depending on the overall students results for a particular subject for a particular year. same goes for how many marks needed for credits. i heard many rumours and stories – some say the passing mark is as low as 20 for certain subjects, and in some cases different passing marks for different states or types of schools. Since there’s no transparency nor independent evaluation of the SPM results grading process, we can only guess.
Hi,
My son has started to study Mechatronic Engineering in one of the private college over here. His SPM results -BM-c5, English-b4, Maths-b4, Rekacipta- a2, EST-b4, Moral-c5, sejarah c6, physics d7 and chemistry e8, add maths e8. But he is not doing well in his studies. For Machatronic course even in semester 1,he failed eta, ies, ems. Afew xs he resitted but failed again. He is not sure what course he should study as he finds very difficult to pass the above subjects. Looks like he is quite weak in in physics and add maths. Can you suggest what are the courses that he can take which has no physics and add maths related subjects. How about management course and what is the path like? If possible in Government sector. Thank You.
Hi Mr Jeevan,
your son got poor results in science and maths subjects, yet he is studying mechatronic? How can you expect him to get different results if there’s no drastic action to help him improve his studies? I think its bad advice to enroll him in such tough course.
He did well in rekacipta, maybe can consider something to do with design, arts, IT, etc. does he have an ambition or interest? i think need to consider that as well.
there’s plenty of courses that don’t have physics and add maths. i suggest you refer to afterschool.my and studymalaysia.com which have a list of courses offered in private/public sector.
if you want to enrol him in govt related college/uni, he can check out upu.mohe.gov.my for IPTA intake. Politeknik intake will open after SPM results are announced.
Hi sir,
i hv get very bad result for my stpm, 2c+,1d+, F in pure math.. due to i hv 2 c some college are accept me and allow me to further my degree. my question is ….
1)if i complete my degree, but my stpm result bad, do GOV recognize my certificate?
2)i am sc student during f6, izit ok for me switch to accounting or computer programme in degree?
thx alot , god bless
hi Joe,
most likely no colleges will accept you into degree program directly, but you can give a try. let me know if got any college accepts you into degree. can be helpful to other students.
most colleges will advice you to take diploma or foundation, and then proceed to degree. refer to “Basic steps to apply IPTA” in this page: http://poobalan.com/blog/education-help/guidance/
1) govt would recognise degree which is registered with JPA. check at http://www.interactive.jpa.gov.my/webinteraktif/frmMainIktiraf.asp
i assume you want to work in govt sector if you worried about govt recognition. if you worried about getting a job, then need to ensure the degree is MQA recognised. the program will have an MQA number, you can cross check with MQA website: http://www.mqa.gov.my/
for most jobs, they check SPM results – must at least get credit in BM.
2) switch to computing is OK, but if accounts, you may have to take extra steps to study basics in accounting first. some colleges may accept into certificate or foundation program so that you can learn the basics before continuing into degree. computing degrees, no problem.
