Criminal Councillors in Ampang?

It seems that two nominees to a Selangor municipal council have been accused of having been involved in criminal activities just few days before they are to be sworn in as Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) councillors next Tuesday. Those two candidates are being investigated by the police following complaints by the public. NST reports that three of them have problems.

At least three candidates, already issued appointment letters as
councillors, are being scrutinised following claims by an Ampang
resident that two had police records for robbery and involvement with
the underworld. Another is alleged to have served time under preventive laws. Checks with the police confirmed that at least one had a criminal record

I have to blame the committee (including Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin) who vetted the nominees. The naming of councillors were delayed for three over months due to different selection process as compared to previous government.

Khalid had said that the three-month delay was due to the time taken to vet the list, which was sent to the respective councils last
week

However, all candidates should have been vetted by ACA, police, Insolvency Department, Bank Negara, Syariah court (for muslims), MPAJ and the rest of the cavalry. This would have ensured a better selection of candidates. Candidates who won’t be disputed.

Now, Khalid Ibrahim says it will take another 6 months to vet the candidates, and those found guilty will be removed.

Over the next six months, we will check the backgrounds of all the 288 councillors selected by the state government

Zuraida also clarified that:

Zuraida said a committee had vetted the list based on certain criteria and quotas. “We had submitted names of people who have worked hard and shown consistent performance. “The two nominees in question were genuine in helping us. They did not take a single sen from me,” she said. Zuraida added that the nominees would be removed if there was evidence of criminal activities.

Meanwhile, MPAJ boss created an escape route by denying any knowledge:

MPAJ president Mohammad Yacob said he was shocked by the allegation. He said the council did not have any details of the nominees because the state government provided the list.

Perak Assembly Speaker Sivakumar finds it tough

This is the second day of the Perak State Assembly sitting. And Sivakumar, being the first Indian state assembly speaker carries the burden and image of the community. He must not forget that.

Anyway, he’ll be more hellish times ahead since Perak’s situation is nearly balanced. He need to be far more patient than Pandikar Amin the Dewan Rakyat speaker!

He already faced his first walkout, but the Star reports sounds like he was being fair. Selangor’s Teng also doing quite well I guess as no complaints have been registered.

Speaker: Perak BN walkout was ‘childish’

Perak Barisan Nasional’s walkout during the state assembly was “childish” and unbecoming of an elected representative, assembly speaker V. Sivakumar said.

“They are here to bring forth the problems of the people, not to carry out their own agenda in order to get publicity,” he said when commenting on the incident here Thursday.

Asked about Datuk Seri Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Omar (BN – Kubu Gajah) being denied the chance to debate, Sivakumar said that Raja Ahmad Zainuddin had been given the last half hour of the sitting on Wednesday to debate.

But for some reason, he chose not to speak and instead asked to debate Thursday on the motion of thanks on the royal address, said Sivakumar. “When you get the opportunity to speak, you grab it. Otherwise, you will have to wait your turn like everyone else. “Moreover, I never refused his request. I told Raja Ahmad Zainuddin he would debate next after Teja assemblyman Chang Lih Kang, who stood up first,” he said.

On accusations from Barisan representatives that he was biased towards Pakatan Rakyat, Sivakumar aruged that he had been more than fair to Barisan. He pointed out that he gave over two hours to former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli Ghazali to present his debate.

YB Devamany is wondering why Pahang government have not appointed an Indian to excutive council. If we remember well, Samy made his famous “we would not beg” statement when asked about no Indians in Pahang EXCO seat.

If I’m not mistaken, the MB said that not necessary to have representative from certain race since the BN representatives serve everyone.

MIC won one state seat in Pahang.

did or did not?

Hmm..yesterday was quite interesting. RPK gave a statutory declaration that included statement saying PM Badawi received a report from military intelligence. But Badawi denied it.

Then, if you remember the indelible ink issue during the last election, the Election Comission’s chairman Abdul Rashid said that it was the Cabinet decision that “instructed” him to not use the inks (bought for RM2 million – can purchase land and build one Tamil school!) just days before the election. If I’m not mistaken the chairman implicated PM Badawi as well. In yesterday’s Parliament session, PM gave a written reply to Lim Guan Eng’s question. According to the reply, the Cabinet only “suggested” and the decision was still with the commission.

So, who is lying and who is not?

Well, i think the community should learn from illegal immigrants on how they go their PR and other documents. Interested parties who are concerned for the community can set up a fund to pay for such documents. I’m sure there are many syndicates who can help 🙂 Depending on the relevant agencies will take forever, so might as well look for alternative avenues. The foreigners are enjoying more benefit due to their “initiatives”. Why not learn from them?

Remember just before election, MIC Youth hijacked an independent group’s (Makkal Sakthi?) programme and went around the nation to register Indians without identity documents? Wonder what happened to those applications. Wait for next election campaign is it?

Since Pakatan had taken over Selangor, Perak, Penang and Kedah, all states with high number of Indians, perhaps they should re-initiate action to get people without proper identification documents registered. Even when MIC Youth held the program in Klang, many people from other races also turned up. So, this is a common problem among the poor and rural inhabitants.

Human rights and social welfare groups are increasingly concerned that up to 40,000 ‘paperless’ Indian Malaysian children in Selangor may be deprived of an education.

Last year, 13 students who failed to produce their birth certificates were expelled from their Tamil primary school – the SRJK (T) Vallambrosa in Kapar. » Read more: Kids without birth cert expelled from tamil schools
