BUTTERWORTH: The Government should implement the Bangsa Malaysia concept to give equal opportunities to all Malaysians, Hindu Rights Action Front national co-ordinator R.S. Thanenthiran said. He said the concept, which recognised a citizen not by his colour, religion or his cultural background, could help promote greater unity.
“We should give the Bangsa Malaysia concept a chance. Political parties should no longer be race-based. “Politicians should also stop using racial and religious sentiments that could disunite the people,” he said yesterday.
On Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said it was important for Malaysians to identify themselves as Bangsa Malaysia and not by their race.
Thanenthiran also called on Indian youths to continue using tolerance, patience, love and peace in their approach to resolve problems.
“Similarly, we wish the Government will accept our requests to sit down and talk amicably about Hindraf’s concerns,” he said.

Passport still valid pulak!
May 27th, 2008NST, Star, and Malaysiakini carried news on second statement by Home Minister that Waytha’s passport is still valid. Previously it was claimed that maybe the passport expired, but rebutted by Waytha who said that his passport had few more years left. Now the passport is still “active” according to Immigration Department. So, i guess its the Brits fault then 🙂
The government today once again denied that it had revoked Hindraf chairperson P Waythamoorthy’s passport.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs has been informed by the Immigration Department of Malaysia that the Malaysian international passport issued to Waytha Moorthy s/o Ponnusamy is still active in our passport and travel document system. “In other words, the Malaysian government has never made any cancellation to the mentioned travel document,” said Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar Syed Hamid in a statement today.
“Waythamoorthy is now believed to be overseas and is still free to travel internationally,” added the minister.

PUTRAJAYA: The international passport of Hindraf leader P. Waythamoorthy was never revoked. Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said that he was informed by the Immigration department that Waythamoorthy’s passport was still listed as active in the Passport and Travel Document System.
“If the passport is still active, it means that the Government has never made any cancellation to his travel document. “Hence, his allegation that we have revoked his passport is baseless,” Syed Hamid said in a statement. He added that Waythamoorthy was free to travel internationally as his passport was still valid.

uthaya makes new appeal
May 26th, 2008This case is getting interesting. His family and close supporters claim negligence, while SUHAKAM guy and authorities say everything was done according to rules. Perhaps its time to relook the rules if it is infringing on basic rights.
I’m surprised to hear that he is still been given starchy food. You would need a basic amount of carbo, but have to be controlled due to diabetic condition. So, is his diabetic levels being monitored?
Being in detention is the same as being a prisoner, isn’t it (except the trial part)? So, loss of weight, skin problem, stress, weakness, etc. all can be expected. Being paralysed is not.
Can a patient waive his medical report confidentiality so that his relatives can get second opinion? Specifically, can a prisoner do so? We read in papers that parents of a detainee (chinese) who died in look-up recently (I think i read it about 3 or 4 days ago) were denied access to medical reports by the police. But the guy did a medical check up before being arrested – which produced a clean bill of health. » Read more: uthaya makes new appeal
PKR newsletter named Makkal Sakthi
May 25th, 2008Alamak! Would Hindraf allow this? Makkal Sakthi is a common word, no one copyrighted it yet, so technically PKR can call their newsletter as such. However, if HINDRAF is to remain apolitical and as a pressure group and still be associated with the term “Makkal Sakthi”, then HINDRAF must ask PKR to not use the term for their newsletter. They must not be seen swaying too much to any one side, even though currently they are supportive of Pakatan side due to their similar causes.
KUALA LUMPUR: “Makkal Sakthi”, previously the rallying cry for the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), is now the name for the Tamil edition of Suara Keadilan, Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s newsletter.
The first issue hit newsstands yesterday and the copies were quickly snapped up by members of the Indian community.PKR information chief Tian Chua said yesterday that despite the “rebellious” title, the weekly newsletter is printed with permission from the Home Ministry.
Parliament abbatoir or market
May 22nd, 2008Not sure if anyone remembers cows and goats being slaughtered in parliament compound which happened last year July. Reason? Celebrating the wedding of our prime minister. The MPs organised a “kenduri” (reception). Agreed, the slaughter was in the compound and not in the building itself. But I doubt the cries and smell of the animals were more pleasant compared to a 6-year old’s birthday which was surrounded by about 15 people. TV3 showed the birthday celebration clip which was held in the lobby, during the 8pm news. They focused on comment by one of the officials that Parliament is becoming like “Central Market”.
I think its not an appropriate place to have birthday parties, even though its a simple cake cutting ceremony only. Of course only the opposition MPs will attend and show support. And this will be used by the others to cast a bad light on the whole thing.
