Syed Hamid said the decision to allow the newspaper to continue publishing was based on looking after the interests of the paper’s employees.

“They are supporting so many people and… they assure that they will abide by the guidelines and they will contribute to our nation building efforts,” Syed Hamid said.  “I think their request is reasonable and I renewed it (the permit) yesterday,” he told reporters

Hahahahahahahahahaha……What a joke! 102 people’s job can make things change so fast? What about national unity, racial harmony and all those magic words always bandied about? 25 million people has less value than 102 families?

Well, what an about turn! Let me guess, the Ministry statement will say that “the publisher has agreed to follow guidelines more closely. Further non-compliance will cause the permit to be not renewed.” Hmm…looks like no conditions imposed. » Read more: Makkal Osai permit finally renewed

I’m not well-versed in citizenship laws, but I think this should be a clear-cut case. The parent (who would have been Malayans) took him to be registered at the Malayan High Commission, but after many years later, the birth certificate is not found at the commission. Any proof of communication between his parent and the high commission people between 1963 and 1975? » Read more: No citizenship after 38 years

I have to take back my words. I never thought that Vasantha will be allowed to visit his sick daughter in KL, but he did. At least a bit of compassion was shown. Hope the little girl will be lifted by her father’s visit and recover soon.

Vasantha looks a different person with the beard and all. By the way, he passed message that Uthayakumar is feeling better now with proper medication and food suitable for his diabetic condition. » Read more: ISA detainee gets to visit sick daughter

No one supports Makkal Osai ban

So far, no a single person came out in support of ban against Makkal Osai. On the contrary, many were surprised, while the Indians I met were disgusted and angry to say the least. Surprisingly, even MIC boss Samy Vellu and Murugesan seem to be against it. Samy mentioned that “they can appeal”, perhaps hinting at what will be coming up next. Murugesan was more vocal. Even MCA did not mince their words. Again, this makes me wonder what were those MIC and MCA ministers were doing when this was discussed in the cabinet? Or was the ban not brought up at all? » Read more: No one supports Makkal Osai ban
