More PSD scholarships for Indians

KUALA LUMPUR: More Indian students will stand a chance to get a tertiary education with an increase in the number of Public Service Department scholarships. The MIC education bureau head, Datuk T. Marimuthu, told a seminar for SPM and STPM students that the number of scholarships had increased from 1,800 to 2,000 this year. Tan Sri Devaki Krishnan, who holds the record of being the first woman to contest and win a seat in the municipality of Kuala Lumpur, is all for the revival of local council elections. She represented the Bangsar area as one of the 12 elected councillors in the 18-member council until 1955.
