MIC Saravanan starts blogging

Hmm…after Samy announced that MIC will set foot in cyberworld, Deputy Minister Saravanan announces his website and blog. I dropped by his website and sent some comments. Also posted a comment on his blog. Let’s see if it gets to see daylights or ends up edited. As readers know, i don’t condone foul language or threats in my blog, and also do not post such things on others’ blogs.

He wrote about his background, thoughts and provided links for few other related URLS like the media, political parties (opposition included). I guess people can check his website and verify if its correct or not.

After Murugesan (CWC) and Kamalanathan (Putera MIC chief), Saravanan is, I belief, the third prominent MIC man to blog.

NST and Malaysiakini carried the news from Bernama:

Federal Territories Deputy Minister and MIC Information Chief Datuk M. Saravanan has joined the bandwagon and launched his own website and blog.
Saravanan’s website can be accessed at www.msaravanan.com and his blog at msaravanan68.blogspot.com.

The website contains articles and pictures depicting the growth of the 40-year-old politician from the time he was a “kampung boy” staying at the quarters of the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital here to what he is now.

It also contains his biodata and his vision and mission for the various segments of the community as well as an FAQ (frequently asked questions) column.

Saravanan has also created a reflections column where the deputy minister promises to post his views on issues and a column to post feedback from readers.

“This (website) will enable me to get closer to the people and hear them directly. It will also help clear misconceptions about me. The website will enable people, whoever they may be, to contact me directly,” he said.

“The blog, on the other hand, enables the people to read my views and give their reaction to issues that crop up from time to time.

“I believe the use of the Internet in the country has reached a level where people are logging in more than ever and, as politicians, we have to be on par with the current goings-on.

“I invite people to read the contents of the site and then judge me from there. Please don’t listen to rumours and coffeshop talk. If you have a doubt, mail me or get in touch with me through the blog to clear the doubt,” he told Bernama.

Nijhar quits post only…

Nijhar clarifies that he resigned from his VP post, and is still a MIC member. Earlier, it was reported that he quit MIC. Anyway, he resigned via SMS! Like those divorces cases using “talak” statements :).

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran MIC leader Tan Sri K.S. Nijhar has quit as party vice-president and he did it via SMS.  But it was not in a huff. The 72-year-old Nijhar who has been the vice-president for three terms, had announced his intention to resign at the last committee meeting early this month.

Nijhar, when contacted, said that he had sent text messages to Samy Vellu and secretary-general Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam on his resignation.  “I have nothing against Samy Vellu. We have only minor disagreements on some issues,” he said.  He said that he had already stated that the decision to quit was not against Samy Vellu or anybody else in the party.  “I won’t be where I am in politics without Samy Vellu’s help. I am very grateful.

“It is just that sooner or later, I have to call it a day from politics. I remain a life member of the party and would be available to serve again if needed,” said Nijhar.

This is what Samy said about the resignation:

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said the committee accepted Nijhar’s resignation at yesterday’s meeting. On the reasons for Nijhar’s resignation, Samy Vellu said the former Subang MP had stated his intention in the press.  “I don’t have any quarrels with him,” he said.

A bit on Nijhar and MIC:

Nijhar joined MIC in 1973 and had held several positions including treasurer-general, CWC member and secretary-general before being elected as a vice president in 2000. He retained the vice president’s post in 2003 and 2006.

He was appointed a senator for six years and served as parliamentary secretary of the International Trade and Industry Ministry from June 1989 to June 1991.

Nijhar had also contested and won the Subang parliamentary seat in 1999 and 2004 but was not fielded in the March 8 general election.

Criticism of MIC rebranding

MIBA president again comes out with criticism of MIC and Samy Vellu. This is also echoed by KP Samy and an academician from UKM.

I agree that changing logo and uniform is meaningless. Probably some company will be making a tidy profit out of this exercise. Perhaps should follow the money trail as well.

No point changing the packaging when the content is still the same. Probably can deceive some of the people for a short period.

KUALA LUMPUR: Will spending RM500,000 on new uniforms, logos and letterheads really help the MIC to be more appealing to the Indian community? Many have their doubts.  After the party’s heavy losses in the general elections, it has come under intense pressure, particularly for the resignation of its president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.  Some have even begun to question the relevance of the party, especially in catering to the new generation. While the rebranding sounds like a good attempt to bring the party back to its glory days, many are questioning the need to spend on non-tangibles.Malaysian Indian Businessmen Association president P. Sivakumar said the RM500,000 allocation for the party’s rebranding exercise could be put to better use. It could be used as a start-up capital for small businesses or for those struggling to pay for their university entrance fees.   Sivakumar said the real issue facing MIC was leadership. “It’s time for the legend to give way to a younger person,” he said, alluding to Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu’s tenure as party president. He added, however, that Samy Vellu could remain as an adviser. Sivakumar also said the rebranding exercise should include putting to rest the controversy over Maika Holdings shares.

Samy unhappy with Murugiah on representing Indian community

If you read the papers recently, PPP’s Murugiah have been featuring more frequently. He announced the Tamil Schools Foundation and complaints bureau in schools. He also launched a Teacher’s camp recently:

Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department T. Murugiah said that parents too must attend these seminars to better motivate and instil good moral values and discipline in their children.

Speaking to reporters after opening the three-day Self Development Training camp for Tamil school teachers at the Gadong Tamil school in Morib on Tuesday, he said he would ensure this seminar was organised in all Tamil schools nationwide.

However what riled Samy is the claim by Murugiah that “the premier had endorsed him as the community’s representative“. Samy counters by saying that Dr S.Subramaniam is the sole minister representing the Indian community.

Looks like another round of battle between MIC and PPP is in the cards.
By the Samy still using the word “building” instead of “rebuilding” or “relocating” schools, thus giving false impression that more Tamil schools are being built when in fact its still 523 schools. Don’t worry, the people are more smart now. They read carefully. » Read more: Samy unhappy with Murugiah on representing Indian community

goblok, oops go blog MIC

From a scenario where bloggers were either stupid or bored housewives, it has become a fashionable “in” thing. Ex menteri besars, ex prime minister, election losers,  election winners,  political wannabes, all have taken the plunge. But  its not easy to blog. We have seen how Ali Rustam cheated by saying his blog had problem when in fact he blocked all comments on his posting. And the replies Toyo got for his postings. Now, MIC is planning to do the same! God bless them.

MIC should be informed that having blogs is not the issues, but how the media is used, the honesty and the willingness to accept criticism. A domain name is not a guarantee of winning back the lost respect and name.

First, MIC needs to update its website. Its latest news (when i wrote this piece) was dated 3rd March.

As for blogging, I hope it does not backfire and totally humiliate MIC in cyberspace. They must remember that they can’t bully nor intimidate anyone in cyberspace. Selective comment approval also will be easily exposed.

Samy should try to get some prominent bloggers to give they leaders a thorough course on blogging. Unfortunately, all the prominent bloggers seems to be pro-Malaysian and anti-BN. They have MIC leaders like Murugesan and Kamalanathan who blog, so should ask these guys to knock some sense into Samy’s plans before it becomes an utter disaster. Of course, I’m available as well 🙂

Or would they make use of third persons to run blogs on their behalf?

Err..before going on to cyberspace, it would be great if MIC organises language courses for its elected reps, branch and division heads! Let them communicate well in real world before venturing into cyberworld. » Read more: goblok, oops go blog MIC
