KUALA LUMPUR: More than 1,000 delegates from around the world are expected to attend an inaugural world conference here on Siddhar principles from May 25 to May 27.

The event, organised by non-profit organisation Sri Agastiar Nyaana Peedam Malaysia, has attracted the participation of people from such countries as India, Japan, Holland, South Africa, England and France.

"We hope to disseminate the principles of the Siddhars on how to develop the inner qualities to achieve peace and improve the quality of life for all human beings," said organising chairman Arul Selvar Abnaa Nagappen.

A Siddhar is someone who has attained enlightenment.

The Siddhars are sages who, through pithy sayings and aphorisms, talk about living a good life and attaining enlightenment.
Their treatises and sayings also contain a wealth of information on health and disease that has come to be known as Siddha Medicine.

Speakers include Thavayogi Thangarasu Adigalar, Siddhar Sri Kagapujandar Dharmalinga Swamigal, Thavathiru Swami Onggara Nantha, Thavathiru Oooran Adigalar, Prof Dr Aranggar Ramalinggam, Dr T. Ananthan and Prof Dr T. N. Ganapathy.

The vice-chancellor of the Tajore Tamil University, Dr S. Subramaniam will also attend.

Topics related to astronomy, philosophy of science, yoga, siddhar medicine and spirituality will be discussed.

The conference will be officiated by Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu at 9am on May 25 at the Auditorium Perdana Siswa, University of Malaya.

The association can be contacted at www.agastiar.org.
