KUALA LUMPUR: With ailing parents and two school-going siblings to care for, Form Four student R. Yogeswary is forced to work as a part-time sales promoter.
After classes, she would return to her Desa Mentari home at Old Klang Road, complete her homework and rush to work in the city centre.
“I earn RM16 working four hours as a sales promoter. I spend RM2 for bus fare and the balance is used to buy food for the family,” she told a press conference.
A Good Samaritan, identified as David, saw the girl working in the shop one day and enquired about her family.
“I was devastated when I heard her story. She has to carry such a huge burden at such an early age. I decided to help the family,” he said.

David made arrangements with the St Vincent De Paul Society to provide the family monthly provisions as well as pay for the school bus fare.
He also brought them to see MIC Youth social and welfare bureau chairman T. Mohan.
Yogeswary said her father, D. Rajachandran, 48, had been in and out of hospital after being involved in an accident eight years ago while her mother, M. Devagi, 36, who is suffering from high blood pressure and diabetes, has eyesight problems.
Mohan said the MIC Youth would apply for welfare aid as well as raise funds to provide them a monthly allowance to ensure that the children concentrate on their education.
Donors can send cheques to the Devagi Fund, c/o MIC Youth, 12, Jalan PBP 5, Taman Industri, Pusat Bandar Puchong, 47100 Puchong, Selangor.
