Really surprising that Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s former political secretary Matthias Chang can make such a blunder. Surely he know at least his ex-boss race!

As mentioned in Malaysiakini:

“He (Ian Chin) must be sacked for slandering a great Malay leader,” the lawyer told reporters after lodging a police report against the judge for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the former prime minister.

Its not “great Malay leader”, you silly! Its “great half-Malayalee leader”! If that’s too difficult, just say Indian leader lah… Well, I can accept Indian-Muslim leader as well. 🙂

HINDRAf coordinator Raidu clarified that the group is not collecting any donation from the public and has stopped doing so since a long time ago.

Hindraf does not approve of such methods as we have stopped collecting funds from the public a long time ago

Raidu also mentioned that the ISA detainees informed that they were being accused of collection funds for covert activities like terrorism. Raidu said that about RM68,000 was collected last year and was spent for bail for those detained participating in rallies.

Both Vickneswary (wife of Vasanthakumar) and Buvaneswary (wife of Ganabatirao) said they had not received any of the “donations”. Vickneswary said her husband’s house would be up for auction today. She was unable to pay the RM600 monthly installment.

Pity that Vasanthakumar’s house is going under the hammer. I think something should be done about this.

YB Devamany is wondering why Pahang government have not appointed an Indian to excutive council. If we remember well, Samy made his famous “we would not beg” statement when asked about no Indians in Pahang EXCO seat.

If I’m not mistaken, the MB said that not necessary to have representative from certain race since the BN representatives serve everyone.

MIC won one state seat in Pahang.

Update on 27 June: The deceased is married (NST):

Elangesvaran is survived by his wife, V. Thanaletchumy, a 6-year-old son and a 11/2-year-old daughter.

The court also ordered the body to kept in the hospital until both parties present their case.

Sorry guys, the original posting was meant to be a draft and I didn’t realise it was actually published. It just contained the news articles from Star and Malaysiakini. I have edited it now:

The issue here is the alleged conversion of B. Elangesvaran, (Malaysiakini said Elangesvaran Benedict) aged 34 and a Hindu while alive. The deceased was a used-car dealer says NST. He committed suicide 4 days ago (which in Islam is a major sin). According to the brother, Elangesvaran hanged himself.

The brother, S Selvam (brother is B., but he is S.?) aged 48, filed a summons to stop the state Islamic Religious Affairs Department, the Perak Islamic Religious Department and the Parit Buntar Hospital director and their workers and agents from claiming the deceased body or preventing him from conducting a Hindu prayer rites. » Read more: Elangesvaran convert problem

Ministry program to help stateless children

Minister Ng Yen Yen mentioned that her Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is working with Registration Department and state governments to resolve problem of children without “documentation”. She goes on to say that these documents were needed for schooling and medical access. Wonder what are those “documents” because she says it does not include identification cards.

Selangor is mentioned as having a high number of people without proper identification, especially from the Indian community. Figures vary from 20,000 to 80,000 depending on who you ask. Besides Selangor, Sabah also has a very high number of children without identification – usually those with illegal immigrant parents, unlike Selangor where the parents are local Indians without any identifications themselves. Kind of a generation problem.

We hope this program will succeed, instead of being dragged until next election season. However, its wiser and most likely cost effective to tackle identification card and citizenship issue at the same time. No point in having another round of exercise to investigate, document and solve identification card problem. The Registration Department should be able to decide on giving birth certificate and/or identity cards based on data collected by the ministry workers, NGOs, state government staff etc.

Before election, this stateless people topic was a hot issue in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Malacca as there were cases of estate workers who for generation were without any proper identification. Coupled with total illiteracy, these people were perfect for cheap labor in estates and farm located in remote areas.
