The Malaysian Indian Business Association (Miba) will be organising a forum here on Sept 11.

Titled “Future of Indian Malaysians – Towards the 13th general election”, the forum would feature Indian political leaders from Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat as well as activists, community and business leaders.

In a statement, Miba president P Sivakumar said the last general election witnessed an erosion of support for BN.

“After 11 general elections of solid block support to BN, a majority of Indians voted opposition candidates as reflected in the current representation in Parliament and state assemblies.

“However, since 2008 and after 16 by-elections there are some indications of a change with regard to the return of Indians back to BN due to the community’s confidence in Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s leadership style and inclusive approach.

“The battle for the Indian vote is at hand and therefore this forum seeks to provide an opportunity for an intellectual discussion to ascertain the current status of events.

“This forum is a meeting of minds and we hope that all parties will take the opportunity to use this forum to debate their views, challenges, hurdles and future possibilities,” he added.

Sivakumar said this is the time for stock taking to compare what was promised, with what was delivered, between what was part of the election manifesto in 2008 and the track record in terms of delivery and public confidence.

“We acknowledge that the Indian community is a very diverse political community. We believe all groups irrespective of the political divide are committed towards seeing the advancement of the Indian community in the context of socio-economic development of all Malaysians.

“The forum provides a platform for politicians and aspiring politicians to share their dreams and hope for the community in the context of what they have promised and delivered,” he added.

Registration fee is RM100. The forum would be held at the Menara PKNS here. For further information, contact Miba’s office at 03-7859 1670, fax:03-7859 1864.

suspension of MIC youth leader is to prevent others from complaining

I think something is fundamentally wrong here. If a member makes a false accusation, then you punish the member for that. You don’t punish a member for just making a report. If you are not in the wrong, why are you so worried about the “unnecessary investigation”? Let justice take its course and then if ROS finds you are in the clear, you can prove to everyone that the member who made the complaint was mischievous or had some hidden agenda.

So, what is ROS’s findings? Already 5 months. Don’t tell me MACC need to visit ROS now.

Anyway, the guy says will appeal. Probably they’ll reduce it to 6 months or 3 months.

The MIC disciplinary committee had no choice but to take disciplinary action against its national Youth secretary C. Sivarraajh to prevent other members from making similar complaints to the Registrar of Societies, its chairman Tan Sri K.S. Nijhar said.

“If the disciplinary committee had not acted on this, next time another member will go to the ROS to make another complaint of a similar nature and subject the MIC to another unnecessary investigation,” he said.

Sivarraajh was slapped with a one-year suspension effective Tuesday for alleging that the party had acted against the constitution by readmitting sacked members.

He had reported to the ROS in April on the admission of the members, including three who were sacked for launching a movement to oust the then-president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

The three members are Central Working Committee (CWC) members K.P. Samy, G. Kumar Amaan and Deputy Youth leader V. Mugilan.

teacher gets transfer after appeal to political party

This is a pitiful story indeed. This teacher appealed for 3 YEARS to get a transfer back so can be with the mother who is a cancer patient. I wonder why the appeal was not approved before this. Always can give due to compassionate factors.

In the end, it needed political interference to solve this problem. Its more interesting because the deputy minister of education is from the political party.

This is why corruption, nepotism, and favouritism can occur.  These are the things that we should weed out from the civil service – interference from political parties and incompetent officers who not able to serve their customers honestly, fairly and with dedication.

AFTER more than three years of appealing for a transfer back to Penang, a teacher had his wish granted — thanks to the MCA.

Chiam Ming Jeng, 27, who was posted to a school in Subang Jaya, Selangor, had applied to come back to Penang to teach as his mother was suffering from cancer at the time.

His father had passed away in 2009.

After appealing to the party for assistance, Chiam had his wish granted in January when he was transferred to SMJK (C) Chung Hwa, Butterworth.

As a token of appreciation, his sister Wei Ping, 29, presented MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek with a ‘thank you’ plaque to express the family’s gratitude during the state party convention on Saturday.

“My brother, sister and myself are all teachers.

“My brother and I were posted to other states to teach when my mother was ill, so he requested to come back to take care of her.

“Thanks to MCA, the transfer application was finally approved,” she said.

Their mother succumbed to the illness two months ago.

unpaid land premium arreas for partially aided school in Perak abolished

A very good news for schools in Perak, but I’m not sure if any Tamil schools are involved. Its a double bonus because their debt gets wiped clean, and the new land premium is set at RM1 a year.

The Perak government has abolished arrears in unpaid land premium, totalling RM10mil, by 278 partially-aided schools in the state, State Executive Councillor Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said.

He said the schools comprised the Chinese national-type schools and the mission schools.

“Each school is estimated to have outstanding debts of up to RM100,000. So, with the arrears abolished, it can help to ease the financial burden of the schools concerned,” he added.

Mah, who is the State Health, Local Government, Consumer Affairs, Transport and Non-Muslim Affairs Committee Chairman, said that with the land premium arrears abolished, the state government would now extend the payment of RM1 a year in land premium to the affected schools.

Prior to this, he said, several conditions were imposed, such as that the special rate would only be for land where the school building stood, while land with agriculture and other status would not enjoy the special rate.

There were also many partially-aided schools built on private land which did not enjoy the RM1 land premium, he added. – Bernama

Remember this temple?

The controversial Sri Maha Temple in Kampung Rimba Jaya, Padang Jawa which was demolished in November 2007 is set to be rebuilt on 15,000 sq feet of land near the Keretapi Tanah Melayu quarters.

seri maha mariamman temple replacement land pronouncement 210910 01The groundbreaking ceremony took place today at the site in Padang Jawa and was attended by Selangor state excos, community leaders and the Indian settlers from the former Kampung Rimba Jaya.

The temple was ordered to be torn down by the authorities as it stood in the vicinity of the Rimba Jaya squatter settlement. Its controversial demolition by the state government in 2007 had led to many Indians turning their backs on BN.

The Hindu groundbreaking ceremony started at 9.00am with bricks coupled with religious paraphernalia arranged in a four foot-deep hole, which will sit right below the main altar of the soon to be built temple.

Land ceded by developer

According to the Selangor State Health, Plantation Workers, Poverty and Caring Government Committee Chairman, Dr A Xavier Jayakumar, the land was donated by the developer, Ken Rimba Jaya.

“The land was given to state government, and was ceded by the developer. Then we, the state government will decide, whom, and how much of the land will be given,” said Xavier (left) when queried on how the land was allocated to this temple.

He also said that all the land for places of worship in Selangor is gazetted under the state secretary.

Xavier also announced that RM300,000 had been allocated by the Selangor state government for the building fund and the land will be managed by the temple association.

Xavier the ‘temple saviour’

The temple committee and community leaders in Padang Jawa honoured Xavier with garlands and gave him the title “temple saviour”.

According to the temple committee chairperson, Madhu Manogaran, the Selangor state government and Xavier has worked tirelessly to help save temples in Selangor.

“We are very grateful to the state government, Tan Sri Khalid and Xavier for helping us to rebuild this temple, which means a lot to us,” said Madhu during his speech.

Xavier also said that the state government had managed to help around 70 temples by giving them land.

“We are prepared to do more for the Indian community, last year we spent RM2.5 million for Hindu places of worship,” said Xavier in his speech.

The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, along with the squatter settlement of Rimba Jaya, was demolished in 2007 by the then BN-led state government as part of its Zero Squatter programme.

The demolition of the temple led to a massive protest by Indian groups and helped trigger the historic Hindraf rally on Nov 25 that year.
