THE MIC wants the Government to scrap Remove Class for Tamil and Chinese school pupils, saying these classes are no longer relevant under the current education system. In a letter to Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein, the party urged him to take steps to abolish these classes, reported Tamil Nesan.

MIC information chief Datuk M. Saravanan called on the minister to review the system based on feedback from the Indian community.

According to him, the status of remove classes should be reviewed because they had become redundant as Science and Mathematics are now being taught in English.

BATU PAHAT, SUN:

IT’S usually the students who play truant, but now a teacher is under investigation for cutting class.
Deputy Education Minister Dr Wee Ka Siong said today he has told the Perak Education Department to investigate a 43-year-old Tamil schoolteacher from Ipoh, who is said to have skipped more than 30 days of school since January. “This is absolutely unacceptable,” he said, adding that the parents of his students are outraged.

He teaches physical education, English, Tamil, mathematics and science.

Wee said if the teacher is found guilty stern action would be taken. He could face dismissal.  We only want quality, dedicated teachers. A teacher who would just ‘makan gaji buta’ (take a salary without working for it) is not one of them,” he said. He expects the probe to completed within the next couple of days.

Gerakan forms committee to solve Tamil schools problems

Really 400 schools closed down since 1979? Wow! Anyway, good luck to Gerakan. They will be going against UMNO if want to fight for Tamil schools. These guys no need to create another committee, just work with exiting ones like HINDRAF, Tamil Foundation, EWRF, Tamil HM Association, MIC (heaven forbid!), the school PTAs etc.

I’m not sure how serious is Gerakan since they are not Indian-friendly party. No “suitable” candidates it seems for recent elections. So, how to have faith in people like Dr Krishnan?

Solution is simple for layman like me. Change the law. How difficult is that? Difficult since one good-for-nothing political party opposes it. All it needs is to get the legal team to draft changes, and vote in parliament. Which right minded parliamentarian won’t vote for converting partially-aided schools to fully-aided ones – (by buying the land or allowing for funds for such schools on par with other schools)? I bet there will be a bunch of them who are against it. They won’t let fellow coalition MPs to support such motion as well, if it was from the opposition.

This Gerakan effort will fail. If successful, MIC can close shop. » Read more: Gerakan forms committee to solve Tamil schools problems

If the people in power are really concerned about the plight of schools, and can’t do much due to laws and regulations, why not change it? If you can’t help schools located in private lands, then change the rules. If many trivial things can be changed – like extending age of retirement for certain people, how difficult is it to change funds can be channelled for partially-aided schools? » Read more: MP Teluk Intan Manogaran on Tamil schools
