    hye sir.
i would like to ask, are scholarships ONLY for straight A’s students?
i am lost actually. i don’t know what i’m going to do. i didn’t applied for any scholarships until now because i thought they will offered & it is only for straight A’s students.
i managed to get 5A’s & the rest are B’s. i get A’s for add math, math, bm, bi & agama. & all the science subject i get B+. my results are very bad. so i am lost on what to apply. can anybody help me?
i’m interested in engineering which is either electrical or mechanical engineering.
& one last thing, i would looooveeee to study in overseas, but do u think government universities are better than private ones? i was offered by UNITEN, but i didn’t get any scholarship for it. how do i apply? which one? & i would like to go to taylors but their scholarships are only for straight A’s or minimum 8A’s.
i am determined to excel well in my degree or foundation! i am sooo dissapointed with my spm2009 results. huhhhh.

    • poobalan says:

      hi sara,

let’s take things one at a time. i’ll answer your questions first:

      1. MOST scholarships are for straight A students (the minimum is usually 7 or 8As). it would help if the student is from low income family. there’s a very few scholarships/interest-free loan for those with less than 7-8 As, but usually for local IPTA. i don’t think any is open now. sometimes even matric or IPTA diploma program will accept students with less than 7As especially if bumiputra or malay.

      2. your result is not bad! its ok since you got 5As and the rest are Bs.

      3. did you apply for politeknik or IPTA (diploma or matrikulasi)? that would be the most sensible options.

      4. i guess many ppl would loooove to study overseas 🙂 local IPTA are actually quite OK if compared to local IPTS especially if your english is already good. however in terms of global ranking, our IPTAs are somewhere at the bottom.

      5. uniten is good option as the fees are not high as other IPTS. and they are backed by TNB. i don’t think many other IPTS can compete with that. remember, if you get good results in foundation or even the 1st semester, you can still apply for scholarships based on those results. also, there’s PTPTN loan, so don’t put lack of scholarship as a reason to not study. most important is to get good results so that can secure a good job.

  2. martin says:

why are scholarship offers closed way before admission into Local universities is announced my daughter scored 4A and 1 B plus band 6 for MUET for her STPM and plans to major in BA English. she has applied to IPTA and she is still awaiting her offer after an interview at UM lately. However we realised almost all of the scholorships offered have already been closed and IPTA offers will only be announced in may/june 2010. I believe these offers should be when students have the offer letter in hand rather then forecast so what happens to students who get the offer of acceptance into local universities thereafter? will she be able to secure a JPA or any other scholarship to study locally? my daughter prefers to study at a local public uni for her first degree. please advice best options.

    • poobalan says:

      hi martin,

we cant’ really ask the providers about their procedures. some of them offer scholarships much earlier, especially for spm leavers. for STPM leavers, the number of scholarships are not much because most will take IPTA. some of the scholarships for STPM leaver will be open for application between july and sept as well. once your daughters ends up in uni, ask her to ALWAYS visit the hal ehwal pelajar office (or the place where biasiswa info are pasted). i used to do that when in IPTA.

JPA doesn’t offer scholarship for local IPTA after getting a place. since your daughter got 4As, she should have been offered scholarship by JPA already right?

best option – wait for IPTA results, do well in interview. IPTA fees is very affordable. after enter uni, still can try for scholarship.

      • martin says:

        @poobalan, Dear balan

thank you very much for reply. understand about timing of offers but i still feel we should give priority to STPM students over SPM. anyway i do not wish to drag this further. My daughter has not received any offer form JPA but i was told we can still knock on JPA doors. she did very well at the interview and is looking forward to her uni years locally as she puts it she wants to be tempatan for her undergraduate studies.

you are doing such a wonderful service to all of us and it is very much appreciated. once again, thank you very much.

    • poobalan says:

      hi kanichelvi,

i think your best hope is to apply for ptptn loan. your unisel college staff can help out with application for the loan. remember that your course in unisel must be MQA recognised, you must have at least pass in BM, and that you need to have a guarantor for your loan. refer http://www.ptptn.gov.my

  5. selvi says:

WHY SIR NO REPLY FROM YOU?????????????????

    • poobalan says:

      hi xiner,

obviously singapore would be a good choice. you can try calling their office to check about loan or scholarship opportunities after enrolling. at least you can try to cover 1st year fees first. another option is to take bank loan.

  7. selvi says:

HI SIR, THANK YOU FOR YOUR ANSWER TO MY LAST QUESTION…. I WISH TO JOIN NIRWANA COLLEGE THIS MONTH TO STUDY FOUNDATION IN SCIENCE… THEN, I PLAN TO DO MY MEDICAL DEGREE IN DAVAO UNIVERSITY, PHILIPPINES… NOW THE PROBLEM IS, THE DEGREE IS RECOGNISED BY AMERICAN COUNCIL BUT NOT MALAYSIA… IS IT SAVE FOR ME? MY FRIENDS SAID IT IS IMPORTANT THE DEGREE SHOULD BE RECOGNISED BY MQA… WHAT IS MQA?

    • poobalan says:

      hi,

if its not recognised in malaysia, then you can’t work here. if you plan to work overseas based on the degree from phillipines, then i strongly suggest you check with the relevant embassy (like US embassy to contact their education counselors). i think MACEE is one of the organisations that can help you determine if the degree is acceptable in US. http://www.macee.org.my (but this is for malaysia, maybe phillipines has similar organisations).

you must cross check wht the american council because some council may not be a recognised one.

MQA is malaysian qualifications agency (last time known as LAN). it means your foundation program in nirwana should have reference number from MQA. you can also check yourself at MQA website if the foundation program is listed. go to http://www.mqa.gov.my

for medical degree, the degree must also be recognised by MMC – malaysian medical council. their web is http://www.mmc.gov.my

  8. pravin says:

hi sir, i got 8As(3A+,2A,3A-) n 2Bs…..sadly thou, i din get jpa, matrics n even ipta(diploma)…..i gona get my rayuan result on 24th may for matrics….if i failed…i planin 2 do my foundation in sc(i barely afford)… n cont my degree in biochemistry….but still..i hav second thoughts on doin form 6…but still..i hav veli low confidence n scared 2 do so….i did my trials spm veli well…i got 8As too…n my As were all 80n above..but my spm..it turns out the other way around…i even got A- in moral…im so paranoid on how my stpm vil turn out after all the hardships..i wus veli devasted n low self esteem afta obtaining my spm results.so, sir…wat do u think of biochemistry…n wat wud b ur advice for me….

    • poobalan says:

      hi pravin,

by looking at your SPM results, i can say that you can give STPM a try. yes, its tough, and yes the results may not turn out as you expect, but you need to have self-believe. its a risk you will be taking. STPM will have 4 subjects only, and yet need to put in a lot of effort. secondly, doing well in STPM does not guarantee a place in IPTA. you still need to apply UPU and hope to get a place in your choice of course.

biochemistry is ok, but remember that 5 years down the lane, you may need to look at jobs at global scale, not only in malaysia. nothing is permanent and so, one must be willing to adjust to current needs.

      • martin says:

        @poobalan,
Dear Balan, before I proceed I hope your do not mind or take it personal with my views and I think this is important for our community.

        Dear Pravin/All students,
STPM is the ticket to any university, be it local or overseas. So don’t treat is as inferior/second class to the foundation courses offered at the so called university colleges in Malaysia. STPM is totally different from SPM. Here you are required to read, search and gather information and you need to analyze, reason and deliver your facts, figures and assumptions to perfection. STPM is certainly of a high standard and scoring a GPA of 2.75 to 3.0 is considered GOOD. STPM was the ONLY tool to a first degree until the rise of private university colleges all over the country with its diploma and degree programmes and bear in mind all these are merely corporate bodies seeking $$$.
Most of these so called local university colleges offer degrees from foreign universities which are nowhere in the top 200/300. Do your STPM if you cannot afford a foreign degree just do your degree in local uni which are equally good. Agree you cannot always get the choice of your course with IPTA but with STPM you can enter into any university directly into a undergraduate program which is not applicable to a foundation course for one university college to another. Yes you can do the A levels but it will cost you’re a whopping RM20K to RM30K, which will certainly pave way to a foreign degree. Besides why spend thousands of dollars when you can do your STPM with minimum $$$
FYI 3/4 of the students who sat for the STPM in my daughter’s school were Chinese with a minimum 5A to 10A’s in SPM. Their argument here is simple, why spend $$$ when STPM is almost free and far superior in terms of quality and recognized worldwide. Just look up at the requisition for entry into an undergraduate program at local ITPA and foreign universities, Northingham or Monash University in KL and you will know where STPM stands.
        My second point is:
Sorry but I have to say, your English is very bad for a SPM student with 8A’s son. I have come to notice most students who write in here have such poor command of English. This is the sad state of Indians in Malaysia were we were once considered to be as the elite in spoken and written English. Any language spoken and written should be at its best with no pollution of another language. Why is this so hard to fulfill I always wonder now.
My daughter scored A’s in BM and English for PMR, SPM and STPM without any tuition. The secret is to read, write and speak the language without any pollution of other languages, be it students or parents. Don’t speak English mix with Bahasa Malaysia and vice versa with your parents, friends or peers. There is nothing cool about that. And please don’t use the sms/text spelling when you write as it is just too disturbing to read.
English is your trump card to your future locally and abroad. To secure a JPA scholarship or any corporate and NGO scholarships, your command of Bahasa Malaysia, English or both must be good both written and spoken and your delivery must be precise and sharp without any flaw in flow of information. Most of our students fail here miserably.
Lastly stay positive and choose a career you are passionate about. Remember in life, happiness is not all about $$$ son

          Hi Martin,

I appreciate comments such as yours, so i surely don’t mind at all.

if i may add to your comment, stpm is indeed a tough challenge and the cheapest pre-u program available. i don’t agree that STPM is second class or inferior compared to other pre-u program. But, SPTM is more exam oriented if compared to let’s say IB or SAM, thus may not suit some students. another grouse is the limited options after STPM because places in IPTA is limited (i think the STPM leavers who go overseas for degree programs are negligible). some (or many?) students (and parents) may look at it practically and decide why slog for 1.5 years for something which is not certain or when there’s an easier (but more expensive) route. for me, it comes down to whether one has sufficient money, right results, and interest, in order to choose the path after spm. but do note that if you do well (min 3As) in STPM, chances are high in getting scholarship from IPTS as well.

as for the second point, its worldwide phenomenon. From UK to Australia, academicians and teachers are complaining about the deteriorating standards of English, especially in written communication. For me, i’m not particular on language correctness as the purpose of this blog is for providing help to students. i lowered my expectations a lot 🙂 i think students are too much into internet and mobile communications until the sms/tweet language comes naturally to them.

  9. kallitus says:

    hi sir,

if i apply for ptptn loan ,is it they really give me the loan?

    Thank you!

  10. loges says:

sir, i’m studying foundation in science. sir i want to ask whether there is any loans for foundation studies

  11. poobalan says:

    hi loges,

usually there’s no loan for foundation studies as its just one year program. some IPTS may offer scholarship for excellent students to study foundation.

  12. Unlucky Girl says:

    vanakkam sir,
i have obtained 10A’s n 2B’s for my spm 2009..i m frustated that i didn’t even called for d jpa interview,n even selected 4 d matrix n ipta..nw i m depressed n confused about my future..i have lost my confidence ever since i have applied 4 many scholarships but didn’t receive any mail/call 4 an interview.. eg:(sime darby, shell, honda)n many more…sir i wish to secure a scholarship juz like many other students.. so that i do not burden my parents any more..since i m 4om middle class family n have 3 siblings more that are schooling..i thought my results are good enough to be bonded with scholarships so that i can persume my higher level education..but d things when upsight down..i wish u could give some advice n help my situation..thank you..

    • poobalan says:

      hi unlucky girl,

well, what can i say. tough luck i guess. you should continue in form 6 as the cheapest option. if you can consider IPTS, then go for the colleges that can offer a very good scholarship for the foundation and/or degree program. with 10As you can surely get a scholarship from IPTS.

  13. divya says:

sir im a stpm student!i take BM,EKO,PP…..sir all say makro ekonomi so difficult,it is true a sir? i get A in my spm ekonomi subject but i get D in maths in spm………can i do well makroekonomi sir?pls explain briefly bout tht sir……sir n also i wan some tips how to get ban 4,5 or 6 in muet……..

    • poobalan says:

      divya,

makro ekonomi is hard, but then, every STPM subject is hard 🙂 no such thing as easy in STPM. you have to study and since you got A in ekonomi SPM, i think you can get a good result in STPM. remember that there’s a lot of reading to do. be focused n all the best.

as for muet, practise to speak, read, write in english. do the exercises and past year questions. its quite easy to get ban 4 or 5, and looking at your comment in english, i think you can do it easily.

  14. kirti says:

Sir,how can i apply for government nursing college? I had obtained 5 credits in bahasa malaysia, english, mathematics, science, and accounts.

  16. logeswaran says:

sir now i’m doing foundation in science in utar. After finish my foundation can i do my degree in MMU?

    • poobalan says:

      hi loges,

pls check wit MMU itself. generally, foundation from one uni is not accepted by other uni unless the program is given recognition or there’s an agreement between the two universities.

  17. A SAD GIRL says:

Sir,I am a SPM 2009 leaver and I got 9A ‘s in my SPM recently.
    BM=A- ,BI=A ,SEJ=A ,MORAL=A+ ,MATHS=A ,ADD MATHS=A
    CHE=A- ,PHY=A- ,BIO=A

I applied for JPA scholarship 2010 under PILN ,but unfortunately I didn’t i get it due to limited space. But i did my ” rayuan” for it again. They also
told that my application will go under PROGRAM IJAZAH DALAM NEGARA 2010, so i hope i will get it. This is because my dad had retired and my mom is just a house wife ,while three of my siblings are still studying.
While for matriculation,i did my ” rayuan” too and i will know my result on 24 MEI 2010.i am blank and so worried of my future.
If say so i want to join STPM, i didn’t register on 10 Mei that day and
i am so worried that all my hardwork will just go like that. So sir, what should i do,if i don’t register for STPM ? Should i wait for the JPA SCHOLARSHIP’s and matriculation’s results…..
Thank you and i hope for the reply as soon as possible.

    • poobalan says:

      hi sad girl,

9As is a bit difficult to get JPA scholarship. anyway, hope for the best and maybe you can get PIDN.

i suggest you enrol for form 6 first as back up. i think you should have registered on the 10th. pls go to the allocated school and try to enrol.

  18. A SAD GIRL says:

SIR…WHY SIR HAVEN’T REPLY ME ? I AM WAITING FOR YOUR OPINION…. THANK YOU.

  20. ash says:

sir.i got 8a’s in my spm 2009.. i didnt get jpa scholarship, upu or even matriculation. as u advised i’m now doing my STPM. But my problem is whether to take science or arts stream. i took science stream in form5. Sir, what is your opinion on social science studies??? im kind of blank here…… pls help me……..

    • poobalan says:

      ash,

what’s your ambition like? if you feel comfortable with the science subjects in form 5, then stick with science stream and study very hard.

social sciences is for arts streams students. career wise you can be sociologist, political scientist, reporter, journalist, editor, lecturer, researcher, political assistant, anthropologist, management, historian, etc.

  21. hannah says:

I scored 8A’s and 1B in the recent spm examination :
bm, english, maths, sejarah, moral – A+
    chemistry – A
bio and add maths – A-
    physics – B+

I was not successful in obtaining the jpa scholarship n matriculation..but I managed to get an offer from upm to do diploma pertanian which I’m not actually interested in..

what would you suggest me to do?..are there any other scholarships and options available for me now?

looking forward to hearing from you.

    • poobalan says:

      hannah,

did you apply for diploma pertanian?

      what’s your interest?

did you appeal for JPA and matric?

scholarship are getting less now. you can see there’s only two pages in this blog. last time was 5 pages.

there’s not many options. take up STPM or enrol in IPTS.

      • hannah says:

@poobalan, I applied for diploma pertanian..because i didn’t have any other choice..i actually put it as my 3rd choice..
I’m interested in the medical line..
I was turned down by jpa and unsuccessful in my appeal for matrics..
        Which ipts would u recommend?

  22. terencegreen says:

    hello..

btw is it true i can enrol stpm now as i think its too late isn’t it??

    • poobalan says:

      hi terence,

sorry to hear that you also one of the students who didn’t get anything.

      1. STPM still can try talk to school to take you in.

      2. most, if not all, colleges offer fee waivers only. if you do well in a-levels, then use that result to apply for scholarship.

subang is a bit expensive place and lots of “challenges”. some students spend few thousands per month (but not on academic purpose) while others can still live by with few hundred ringgit. in the end, its your choice on how you want to live your life.

  23. Pavitra says:

    hi sir,

i just got 3A in my spm…..and nw im doing my stpm…..i switch stream to artz caz i dun wanna to take risk…..at the same time i got a place in poly shah alam to do my dip.business november intakes…….i dunno which wan to choose…

    what is ur opinion sir?

    • poobalan says:

      hi pavitra,

      how’s STPM so far?

      what’s your ambition/interest?

STPM means you plan to enter local uni (IPTA) later. if you take the poli offer, you still try for IPTA for degree, or even go to work after the diploma.

      • Pavitra says:

my stpm so far okey…..i can get tru….and luv the sejarah and makroeconomic subjects….my aim actually wanna enter IPTA thats y im duin stpm……i

  24. danusha says:

    hello, mr.poobalan

my name is danusia. i am an STPM leaver. i am going pursue with my medical study in Russia. i would like to get some information regarding scholarships related that i can apply for. since i didn’t achieve the requirement of cGpa 3.00 in my STPM, i am doing foundation in sc in Nirwana College. i would like to know if i can use that result to apply for scholarship. besides, i also would like to know if there’s any scholarship i can apply with my result after the 1st year study. another question is is there any scholarships offered by the russian government for the overseas students who scores good result? where can i find for that..

    your early reply is appreciated.

    thank you.

    sincerely,
    DANUSIA D/O SUBRAMANIAM

    • poobalan says:

      hi danusia,

yes, you can use the foundation results, but maybe very few scholarships will accept the results because the credibility of foundation program is much lesser than STPM or other pre-u program. most likely you won’t be able to secure a scholarship. since you got less than 3.00 for STPM, i hope your science subjects have at least B.

after your first year of the medical course (not foundation), you can apply for JPA loan for medicine, but you must be studying in their listed uni only. as for scholarships, most likely not possible.

for info on russian govt scholarship, the best place to refer would be the uni, the senior students, the placement companies, and the local college which have links to the uni.

  25. baaskito says:

    hai sir…im ump students…fnshed first year n gng 2 start 2nd year n im stdyin 4 diploma program…can i apply 4 jpa…n my cgpa(3.71)…n wen the jpa scholarship wil b open…zit in june

    • poobalan says:

      hi baaskito,

since you are doing diploma, i would suggest to apply JPA when you do the degree. try to cover the fees by own.

the scholarship will be open once the next semester opens in 1st week of july. you should visit the pejabat hal ehwal pelajar as often as possible so that won’t miss the info.

  26. Yadu Priya says:

Hello sir, i got the offer to join Polytechnic for the course Diploma Accountancy.. I manage to obtain 7A’s in my SPM.. Now im seeking if there is any scholarship or financial loan available to help myself with my course fees.. Except for the PTPTN loan is there any other loans or scholarship that i can seek for….?

  27. alin says:

hello sir, i have finished my one year matriculation program, and my gcpa for matriculation exam was 3.83. actually i wish to pursue my study in local university and i have applied it,waiting for its result. i really wish to pursue my study in medik but scare i cannot the course i want in local university. moreover my family couldnt support my study in any private university as the exorbitant expenses and fees. to your opinion, would i get medik, dentistry or vet in any local university??? i really need ur advices sir and how come i can apply scholarship now i not yet get an offer from local university?

    • poobalan says:

      alin,

usually matric students can get place in uni, especially if you are malay or bumiputra. so, i can’t really say you will get a place for the critical courses because these things are not really transparent.

some scholarship accept application pending IPTA offer.

  28. milax says:

sir im milax..my spm result is 5a+,3a,2a-,1b+.a+ for bm,mat, chem, sej and bi…a for bio ,phy, and acc….a- for add math and est…b+ for moral…sir i cant decide which course to take up.but i have come to two of my most interested courses that is chemical eng and medicine. Now the problem is, i dunno which course i shud take.i like both but there are a lot of factors i need to take into consideration,i did that but i still cant decide…sir this is my future and i rely need ur advice…to say bout me my parents are teachers and i didnt get into any institution nor scholarship..my parents are havin financial problems….pls help me sir

    • poobalan says:

      hi milax,

well at least you narrowed it down to two options.

medicine is a sure bet for job since medicine is a critical industry. but its a stressful and tough job.

chemical engineering is a diversified field and you may be working in food industry, health (medicine), oil and gas, manufacturing etc.

one deals with humans directly, while the other is indirectly.

since you got 10As, how was JPA scholarship results? did you appeal? if yes, send a copy to MIC, HRP, DAP etc.
in terms of cost, medicine would be more expensive than chem engineering.

  29. haritharan says:

hi sir, my name is haritharan. i would lik to do marine engineering. Actually i need to apply 4 alam sponsorship prog. bt i nt do so coz the date closd dy. i gt 8A’s in my spm. i never gt chance to ipta. nw i really dunno what to do… is there any othr place that cn offer scholarship 4 marine engineerin???. scholarship 4 othr engineering lik mechanical course oso i ready to take sir….

  30. joy_92 gurl says:

    • poobalan says:

      joy 92 girl,

i assume you mean govt matriculation right? if yes, then if you get excellent results in matrics, you can stand good chance to get place for medic in IPTA.

  31. Meera says:

    Hi Poobalan,

I had applied to study MBA at University Malaya (July 2010 intake). The fee cost around RM25 000++. My saving is not enough to support my study.
May I know any organisations provide scholorship for Master student? Thanks.
    Regards,
    Meera.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Meera,

I don’t really keep track of postgrad scholarship info. you can check with UM office itself. secondly, Ministry of Higher Education was supposed to provide tuition fee sponsorship for 10000 students doing post grad. can try contacting them at http://www.mohe.gov.my

  32. Thanigaivelan says:

hi sir, i want to wheter i can apply for jpa overseas scholarships after finishing my diploma in politeknik. And can u please inform me about the minimum requirments to apply for it.. hw mucg must my pointer must be in politechnic to get such a scholarship.. and how to apply for it?

    • poobalan says:

      hi thanigaivelan,

i’m pretty sure the JPA scholarship is for SPM leavers only. maybe others can clarify if there’s a separate scholarship for poli student.

  33. Lavender says:

Hi sir, i enrolled in STPM 2 days ago . I am a straight A’s student for SPM 2009 last year . And now i am waiting for my ”rayuan” for PILN & PIDN 2010.Actually my dad willing to send me to AIMST for foundation in science this July……but after a long thinking on the way , i decided to do my STPM . i don’t want to burden my dad as he had retired and my siblings are still studying.Just pray hard to get the PIDN lah……

So this is decision that i took immediately…BUT in your opinion is this right or i had make a wrong decision……….?

    • poobalan says:

      hi lavender,

its hard to classify right or wrong decision. did you talk to your parents and siblings to see if the full cost of studies in AIMST can be worked out? part of the fees can be covered via PTPTN, but still have about 40% to cover by own self.

since you are straight As student, did you approach any other college offering medicine and negotiate for waiver of fees or scholarship? if you got 10As above, most colleges would waive the foundation fees or offer huge discount. check out the list of ipts offering medicine in the “list” page of this blog.

i won’t comment on the rayuan because it can turn out success or fail. maybe PM will announce extra budget. hope for the best.

as for STPM, if you work hard and stay focused, surely can do well.

  34. Lavender says:

Sir , i am in science stream for STPM as what i said just now.Although this is my second day in the school but i did borrow some books to read during last weekends to cope up what i have left out.So far , i can understand all the subjects and i realised that we need a lot of hardwork for it.Since the day i started my STPM, I woke up at 3.30 am to study as what i did for SPM too…….

I don’t even watch tv on last weekends.I was keep on reading ….and doing some questions on certain topics.

Sir, my aim is to succeed in STPM when others especially even teachers are dimoralising me on taking this STPM. They said even they had send their children to do A-LEVELS…..

They only person encouraging me is my family .So sir what is ur opinion on my hardwork & is it STPM = suicide attempt……

    • poobalan says:

hahahaa…its not suicide if you are well informed! as mentioned in the interview, if the parents have the means and the students are looking for shorter route, then STPM is last choice. HOWEVER, students still take STPM because their aim is to enter IPTA. secondly, after taking STPM, you are not guaranteed of getting a place in the course you choose in IPTA. that’s why if you are not aware and willing to work hard, better to skip STPM.

STPM involves hard work, yes, and a lot of it. but not the extend of torturing yourself until can’t have some entertainment. as the school holidays are coming, use it to catch up with the subjects since you missed out about 2 weeks of class.

i would say if you are able to wake up and study at 3am, then you are surely aiming for success. not everyone can do that. so, i congratulate you.

the teachers are being practical. if they got the money, then maybe they consider that a-levels is better option (shorter and easier).

  35. Lavender says:

Sir ,sorry for asking a lot of questions …As i was reading some comments on STPM, you told that your daugther did STPM too right !

So why do you asked her to do STPM as there are many options? If u are not mind, can i know how was her STPM results to encourage me.
How she studied…. went to tuition….? Can i know ,PLEASE SIR ***

    • poobalan says:

maybe you misread, i don’t have a daughter, let alone one who is old enough to be STPM student! 🙂

but from other cases i encountered, doing STPM is because:
      – cheapest (financial problem)
      – student undecided on career path
      – want to enter IPTA
      – feel that there’s no other option (JPA/matric/poli etc rejected).

      study methods:
      – research
      – group/buddy studying together
      – revision
      – tuition
      – past year papers
      – refer to teacher alot
      – reading habit (read alot of materials-mags, newspaper etc).

  36. joy_92 gurl says:

how about my spm ??? do i need to take agin to get seat ???

  37. abi says:

    • poobalan says:

      abi,

so your first choice is dentistry, and second is pharmacy?

scholarship will appear in this blog and the other websites i mentioned often. you just have to keep checking. you can subscribe to twitter or RSS feed to be kept informed.

pharmacy has a good future of course as there’s lack of pharmacists.

  38. Milax says:

thnx for the reply.I will send the copy of the JPA appeal to MIC/HRP/DAP.Sir i would like to ask another question…between medic and chem eng which has a more promising future in terms of salary, stability, job opportunity and etc.Pls dont mistaken me for asking the almost similar questions again.I just need to weigh deliberately bef making my final decision. My dads ambition was to be a doctor but he couldnt achieve it then.so he is hoping me to become one.On the other hand Chem eng is a professional job and with high salary and etc. Thus i could not decide which one to do due to the reasons i gave.Secondly IF i were to do medic/Eng in private as in foundation which Uni’s should i enrol in?What do u think bout medic in Aimst?

    • poobalan says:

      milax,

i have to stress that nothing is permanently stable. yesterday, newspaper mentioned that we will have too many doctors in 5 years time. so how? you willing to work overseas or for lower pay? same goes for chemical, if the industry is down, then how to get job? i’ll say both have opportunities globally, and both can earn good salary. the most important question is what job you like and think can do for next 20- to 30 years?

i can’t say which foundation to study since got many of them.

Aimst, well you should visit the campus first to have a look.

  39. ain says:

hello,i’m ain, i’m now 20 years old. i’m interested in furthering my degree overseas. I just finished my foundation studies at IIUM. and i got 2.9 for my cgpa. please advise me if i can get any scholarship. thanks

    • poobalan says:

      ain,

your CGPA is below 3.0. you can apply for any university that recognises IIUM’s foundation. how to know if its recognised? well, you have to apply to the uni(s) that you are interested in. they will reply to you. as for scholarship, chances are very slim since your results are below average.

    Thank you,

    Anesh

    • poobalan says:

      anesh,

you can try talk to the college to pay in installments. its difficult to get loans especially if your family income is just based on SOCSO. Socso also offers loan, can try them as well.

  41. selvi says:

hi sir, im currently doing my third degree in pharmacy course at management & science university (MSU), i have borrowed loan from PTPTN to cover my course but its not enough…is ther any other way for me to get any scholarship or loan?…my current CGPA is 3.71..

    • poobalan says:

      hi selvi,

you can try for bank loans, but if the difference not covered by PTPTN is not much, better try to find money from family or relatives. as for scholarships, not much is open now as you can see from this website. you just have to keep looking.

Sir, i’m plannin to pursue my studies in AIMST for foundation in science n continue my degree in medic. May i knw if there is any loans or scholarship tat i can apply to cover my fees for foundation in aimst??? btw, my result is 10 A’S ( 5A+,3A,2A-). Rejected by jpa/matric/ipta. Thanks 4 ur concern…

    • poobalan says:

      khirthi,

last time the star education fund offered such scholarships (deadline over already). other than that, i don’t know of any other provider. usually, if your results is good like 10As the college will offer scholarship for foundation. try other colleges as well, so that can compare.

    hi
I’m ain, I just finished my foundation studies at IIUM.i got cgpa 2.9. then i applied Murdoch university in perth.through australian education. and I just got the offer letter yesterday. the problem is money. i dont know where to get the loan to study there. the due date is august.do u know which institutions offers loan education for study abroad?I need your advise please sir..

    • poobalan says:

      ain,

well, money problem is common for many of us. loan for overseas study is very rare. i think you should consider bank loan.

  45. paul says:

sir, i would like to know whether there are any loans i can take to pursue my studies aboard.I have obtain 10A’S in my SPM and was rejected by JPA, so i am considering doing medicine aboard with a partial loan…

    • poobalan says:

      hi paul,

loan for overseas study is rare indeed, and i can’t remember any now. MIED offers loan but its so little than can barely cover 1 semester in overseas.

you just have to try for bank loan.

1)i got 8A’s for my spm and intend 2 go 2 aimst for foundation in science…is there any scholarship available???

2)my brother is doin medicine in acms..and he got rm150000 from ptptn..but it only covers half of the course..is there any loan available for the rest of the course which is rm150000..n also is there any bank giving study loan(note:the college is not recognize by jpa yet)???

    • poobalan says:

      killer92,

      1) talk to aimst. but with 8As i think its hard to get scholarship.

      2) acms having some problem with registration right? the bank list is on page 2 of the scholarship page. he better get the registration part clear first, because i doubt any loan/scholarship provider will consider if the course is not recognised.

  47. haanan says:

hi sir, i goin 2 study in medicine in indonesia…. can i apply for any schorlarship from malaysian goverment and indonesia goverment… im spm leaver wif 5a bt my physic is c+. im currently goin to pre-medic….i hope sir can explain me more….thank u.. 🙂

    • poobalan says:

well, most of scholarship deadline closed already. you can try for JPA loan AFTER first semester of medicine course is over. as for indonesian govt, you have to check with the uni.

with 5A, you think can get scholarship?

pre-medic won’t get scholarship since its not the actual degree program.

  48. shanti says:

hi sir, im 21 and will be in my 2nd year degree in less than a month. Sadly i did not apply for any scholarships as ive not done well for stpm, only a 3.00. However, ive managed to get a CGPA 3.9 most scholarship application are closed i will be waiting for next batch of scholarship offers. Is there any opportunities available left for a 2nd year student? I was thinking of applying for the JPA PIDN.

    • poobalan says:

      hi shanti,

are you in IPTA or IPTS? in most cases, you can still apply if in second year. but the PIDN is for selected uni for SPM leavers. anyway, rules change so have to wait to see what they say next year.

      hi sivas,

talk to your uni and lecturers first. if you doing full time and in IPTA or selected IPTS. kementerian pengajian tinggi offers scholarship. check with them.
