UPDATE: according to media statement released yesterday evening by HINDRAF, the restaurant owners deny ever mentioning to media that the attackers were “hindraf members” or “would not pay as they were fighting for indian rights”, instead claimed it was business rivalry. quoted below:

RE: 1. SRI PAANDI BOSS AND STAFF DENIES EVER MENTIONING TO TV1, TV2, TV3, TV7, BERNAMA OR THE MALAY MAIL AND THAT THE ATTACKERS WHO ATTACKED THEIR WORKERS AND EATERY WERE HINDRAF MEMBERS OR THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY AS THEY WERE FIGHTING FOR INDIAN RIGHTS AND THAT BUSINESS RIVALRY IS THE REAL CAUSE OF ATTACK.

this is what we call as "menangguk di air keruh" – taking advantage of the situation.

Utusan reports that the men were armed with steel and knife, and that they escaped in two cars – Naza Ria and Toyota Hilux having false registration numbers:

“Mereka yang bersenjatakan sebilah parang dan sebatang besi kemudiannya bertindak memukul pekerja restoran tersebut yang berasal dari India dan merosakkan harta benda di restoran itu sebelum melarikan diri dengan menggunakan dua buah kereta jenis Naza Ria dan Toyota Hilux yang kemudian dikenal pasti menggunakan nombor pendaftaran palsu,” katanya.

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of men claiming to be Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) supporters helped themselves to a hearty meal at a restaurant in Brickfields on two consecutive days and left without paying.  The men destroyed furniture and kitchen equipment, causing losses amounting to RM5,000. They also slashed a worker with a parang and injured the right arm of another with an iron rod.

Numbering between eight and 10, they first turned up at the restaurant in Jalan Tun Sambanthan at about 3pm on Sunday.  They insisted that they should eat for free as they were Hindraf supporters fighting for the rights of Hindus.  The men, aged between 20 and 35, turned up again at about 7.30pm on Monday and helped themselves to the food.  They then went on a rampage, destroying 20 tables and kitchen equipment and attacked the two workers before fleeing in two vehicles.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Junaidi said one worker received 12 stitches while the other sustained a swollen arm. Both are Indian citizens. Three customers in the restaurant at the time were unharmed.

The restaurant owner, who declined to be named, said the men claimed to be Hindraf supporters, became aggressive and refused to pay the bill.  "Food was strewn everywhere and two men guarded the front and back doors of the restaurant with a parang to threaten customers," he said, adding that they had also assaulted the other restaurant workers.

looks like the political party claiming to represent the indians is trying to undo the good work of hindraf by sending their thugs to disrupt the peace. they could not do so during the rally because the crowd was prepared for this and was not in the mood to be trifled with by sam’s goons.

do you actually think that a crowd that did not even retaliate to tear gas and water canons will do this to one of thier own? definitely not!

any one who tries to spoil the good name of hindraf shall face the consequences as the whole community is behind them. don’t believe me? talk to your friends, your neighbours, your colleagues…you will discover the truth.

it’s time that our so called elected leaders stop trying to smear the community’s just to allow themselves to remain in power for that much longer..so that they can gobble up that much more of what rightfully due to the indian community.

people power. peaceful responses always. what can the government do when we just refuse to fight back? can they keep on hitting us, when we don’t fight back? can they keep firing tear gas at us, when we don’t fight back?

Restaurant manager: We did not mention Hindraf in police report

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sri Paandi Restaurant in Brickfields has denied media reports that it had implicated the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) on two attacks on the restaurant.

Manager R. Velokrishnan, 44, said in his police report that he had not identified Hindraf members as those behind the attacks.

“In our police report, we did not mention Hindraf at all and we did not call the media yesterday (on Tuesday). We don’t know from where they got the information,” Bernama quoted him as saying at a press conference at the restaurant Wednesday.

It was reported Wednesday that a group of eight men, claiming to be Hindraf supporters, refused to pay their bill at the restaurant after helping themselves to a hearty meal on Sunday and Monday.

The men were said to have destroyed furniture and kitchen equipment, causing losses amounting to RM5,000, and also slashed a worker with a parang and injured the arm of another with an iron rod.

Velokrishnan said that he lodged the report for the police to investigate the background and motive of the group involved.

“Due to the attack, apart from incurring losses amounting to RM5,000, we also lost customers,” he said.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Junaidi, when contacted by The Star, said police were investigating the incidents.
