There were some IPF supporters during nomination day in Klang. IPF leader’s face were also plastered on banners in Puchong. But if so many Indians are claimed to have voted against BN, that means those Indians in MIC, IPF, PPP, Gerakan, the Indian muslims in UMNO and KIMMA, almost all of them voted for the opposition. Heck, for all we know, even the families of Indian leaders would have voted for the opposition (I can imagine a smiling Datin Indrani voting for the doctor in Sg Siput 😆 )! That much of Indians moved away from MIC and BN.
So, what I think the leaders are saying is that the leaders and the party (in name) supports BN, but the members all are pro-opposition.
‘IPF has always supported BN’
By CHRISTINA KOH
IPOH: The Indian Progressive Front (IPF) has always supported Barisan Nasional and had never once said it backed the opposition, said its secretary-general K. Vellayutham.
He said an article published by a Bahasa Malaysia Sunday paper had given the impression that IPF did not support Barisan, supposedly because the Indian community felt left out in national development. “This is not true. IPF has always supported Barisan 100%,” Vellayutham said on Tuesday.
He clarified that IPF supreme council member S. Applasamy had only told the daily that the Government should take care of the community’s economic, educational and social needs. “But even Applasamy said that the Prime Minister has been addressing these needs. You cannot do everything within 24 hours,” said Vellayutham.
In turn, Vellayutham said it was not necessarily against the opposition, stressing that the opposition must however respect the feelings of the Indian community. He urged the new opposition-led governments to have more Indian representation in top posts. “People have approached us and asked us about this. If there are to be changes in state governments, there must be equal sharing of power.
“We want more Indian representatives, whether it is a ruling government or an opposition government,” said Vellayutham.
