Hamidah insults Indian community

Is the insult by Sungai Rapat (Perak) state assemblyperson Hamidah Osman reflective of BN’s treatment of MIC and Indians in general? One cannot forget Lim Keng Yaik’s famous words as well – something to do with rubber trees (wonder why no one protested him getting Tun). Obviously in a multiracial country, there’s always friendly banter between friends of different races, calling each other names. But that is in an informal, friendly environment. But in a formal setting, the assemblyperson should have known better. Now, Hamidah has become a liability for BN. Apology and wasting money going around her constituency will be wastage only. She might even be greeted with slippers. Best if she resign and save MIC from trying to do a salvage job. The story is below:

Hamidah insulted the Assembly Speaker Sivakumar and his race when she asked him whether he ‘agreed to
disagree’ with a well-known fable of whether a snake or a man from a
certain racial community should be killed first.

Her question caused a commotion by the ruling coalition asking her to retract her question, but Hamidah insisted that she was
merely asking if Sivakumar “agreed to disagree” with it and pleaded innocence.

The
speaker who is also DAP Tronoh assemblyperson instead let her off the
hook with a mere warning of “not to repeat such sensitive remarks.” She later retracted her words after being ordered to do so by the BN whip.

Realising her political mistake (though not necessarily repented) she publicly apologised for hurting the Indian community at a packed press conference in the Ipoh Country Club this
morning, saying that it was not her intention to hurt
the Indian community with a racial slur.

“I have already
retracted my statement in the House and now, I am offering my humble
and sincere apology here to all Indians for uttering the racist remarks
in the heat of the moment.

“I regret for saying that and promise
not to repeat it anywhere anymore,” said a visibly moved Hamidah, who
plans to embark on a ‘constituency road show’ to explain and apologise
over the incident to electorates in Gopeng, which encompasses Sungai
Rapat.

The Buntong assemblyman Sivasubramaniam had this to say (trust the ruling party to use this extensively):

DAP Buntong state assemblyperson A Sivasubramaniam did
not mince his words, labeling her “a racist upholding BN tradition of
racial brand politics”.

“It is ungainly graceless for a people’s
representative to utter such racist remarks against the speaker and his
community,” he said.

Sivasubramaniam
also said Hamidah’s remarks was proof that BN, particularly Umno, had
yet to accept its electoral defeat and conform to the reality that “a
speaker of Indian origin was presiding the House”.

“She and Umno are playing with fire by hurting the racial sentiment of others,” he told Malaysiakini.

Anyway, she was forced to make a public apology, causing a humiliation to BN, and probably take off the pressure from Nizar’s administration for the moment. She was not referred to the Privileges Committee because according to Malaysiakini:

However, a Perak
government insider said Hamidah was not referred to the Privilege
Committee because she was deliberately left to “suffer public
condemnation”.

“She could have become an Umno ‘heroine’ and
evaded public humiliation since she would gain ‘immunity’ if referred
to the committee.

“The game plan worked to force Hamidah to come
out and openly apologise to Indians in Perak and the country as well,”
the insider said.

What is so magnaimous about apologising when the damage is done? Such racist pigs who make derogatory remarks should be blacklisted and booted out in the next elections.

If I come across Hamidah Osman and a snake anywhere, I would rather go for her than the poor snake which could be rather harmless.

Her remarks shows how deep rooted is racism in this country. When once eminent persons like mamakthir spews racist remarks at every turn to incite the rakyat for his own agenda, others of the same ilk like Hamidah Osman take up the chorus to become heroines to garner cheap publicity.

Haven’t they got something more urgent and important to discuss in the state assembly?

Playing politics is one thing but using racially-tinged questions is another. We Malaysians need to send a clear message to people like Hamidah that such statements is not acceptable.

BTW, why are only Indians condeming this ? Should it be every right thinking Malaysians come out and voice their displeasure as one ? Is everyone is quiet because it is about Indians ?

racism is in umno’s blood for a long time . She said she was trying to bring out a malay proverb ….. but did she realize the slur ….. if not in heart how could be the words spill out . Cos it is part and parcel of their emotion for a very long time ……
Since she is from the ruling coalition , i’m interested to see how Indian reps in ruling coalition handles this issue . We shall wait and see .

What she was trying do was asking the Speaker about the Chinese saying not a Malay proverb. What she was trying to imply is that why is an Indian being a tool for a Chinese party.

This saying that Indians are more dangerous than snakes is very common among the Chinese. There was a time an Caucasian asked me about it because the Chinese told him to be careful of indians.

      • sactyr@naga says:

I don’t care whether its a Chinese or a Malay proverb. Does it frikin matter? She suggested to kill Indians first before the snake. There was no underlying message. She meant what she said, literally. What rubbish are you talking about a Chinese party?

“This saying that Indians are more dangerous than snakes is very common among the Chinese. There was a time an Caucasian asked me about it because the Chinese told him to be careful of indians.”

So now you’re being racist? What do you mean by dangerous? How low can you go to demean your own community while blindly supporting BN?

Ok let me get this straight. Hindraf was put under ISA because they appeared to have uttered seditious words. Now if there is no one here disagreeing with me that this Hamidah has uttered racist words, which is seditious, so by our law she should be sent to Kamunting too, right?

Or, because she has apologised, can she be spared from ISA? If thats the case, then can all the 80 or so ISA detainees be freed as long as they have apologised?

Am I the only one seeing the irony/double standards here?

If everyone who utters racist words are sent to jail, then we will have no politicians left in the country. Bro, these racist words were also uttered by PR guys too, including Anwar Ibrahim.

BTW HINDRAF clowns in jail for endangering national security and public order, don’t get confused.

      • sactyr@naga says:

Killer, you contradict yourself you know.

        1. “Bro, **these racist words** were also uttered by PR guys **too**,”

Here you are agreeing the fact that she had indeed uttered racist words (like PR you said), while on your previous comment replied to VJ above you said she wasn’t racist. WTF?

        2. Can you quote me an example of **any** PR guys saying racist remarks? I want quote with a link. Don’t type yourself.

        3. So if a law forces all politicians to go to jail, then the law is made void? Or am I missing the whole point of having a law in our country? Or does certain laws only applies to the ruling party and other certain rules like ISA applies to opposition?

        4. “BTW HINDRAF clowns in jail for **endangering national security** and **public order**, don’t get confused.”

Endangering national security eh? Let me ask you, did Hindraf try to bomb the British embassy? Or did Hindraf try to carry out a terrorist attack? Can you give me an example of a national security? Oh wait a minute, wasn’t it FRU who sprayed chemical laced water and tear gasses at people?

Public order.. whose public order?? So the 30,000 gathered there on that day wasn’t part of public?? Or does BN have a different set of public than the rest of us??

Killer, lately I see that you have bombarded Poobalan’s blog with your comments. Yes you have every right in doing so, but can you please comment with facts please? Can you please think before you comment? I mean how blind can you get to say that BN ADUN was implying a Chinese party????

        • Killer says:

          Bro

My replies are clear enough, just re-read them with commonsense, then you will understand. As for PR guys uttering racial remarks, do the googling yourself.

  6. VJ says:

    Killer ,
in the desperation of running down hindraf you made yourself disoriented .
-it seems you’re defending Hamida . So you concur her message ?
-since when you were appointed as judge when comes to hindraf ? Even our nataion intelligence could not find evidence to convict them .
-in other words you admit that there’re biased law under BN , where only non-BN could be convicted ?

Btw , clowns dont struggle for justice and sit in prison for fun . Look at yourself , while you type nonsense there are 6 heros figthing for your children/grand-children’s future .
Unlike your beloved party , they’re not clowns but crowns of the community. Well crows and cows wont understand .
Be rationale in your argument else even mic supporters will look you pathetically .

    • Killer says:

      VJ

I am not defending Hamidah, see my post before saying your piece.

As for HINDRAF, who says our police cannot find evidence ? There is a reason why now they don’t want to use the Tamil Tiger’s link (and sorry I am not going to reveal the reason here for the benefit of HINDRAF supporters like yourself). And by the way there is enough evidence to jail them for sedition.

Clowns do carry out clownish antics, just observe India and Indonesia for example.

And my kids and grandkids don’t need anyone to fight for them. They are good enough to compete on their own, just like my parents and myself worked our way up from the estates. Thanks but no thanks.

Well, I will leave it to the readers to decide if my arguments are logical or otherwise. I am certainly not offended by your views for I don’t allow the opinions of intellectually bankrupt people affect at all.

      • VJ says:

it’s ok… you dun have to reveal any ….bcos there’s none to reveal . Evidence is not a magical trick to say ‘now you see now u dont’ .

Again and again you dun understand difference between constitutional rights and day by day life . There’re successful Indians in M’sia/India/US/Uk…etc . They were fed by hindraf ? Well it’s ok ……. if it could be understood that easy …mic and it’s supporters wont be as sloppy as we see .

      • sactyr@naga says:

“As for HINDRAF, who says our police cannot find evidence ? There is a reason why now they don’t want to use the Tamil Tiger’s link (and sorry I am not going to reveal the reason here for the benefit of HINDRAF supporters like yourself). And by the way there is enough evidence to jail them for sedition.”HAH!! My dear friend Killer, if the police can find the evidence, why not bring Hindraf to court and charge them? Give them maximum punishment. Sadly there is none eh? That is why they have to use ISA. Indefinite detention without trial. And why you don’t want to reveal the evidence? Because you are scared of Hindraf supporters? Or is it because you don’t have any? And regarding your reply to my comment above: “My replies are clear enough, just re-read them with commonsense, then you will understand. As for PR guys uttering racial remarks, do the googling yourself.”Hello you wanna talk about common sense? Alright big shot, lets roll. My “common sense” tells me that one should reply point by point to a comment. While I have given you 4 points earlier for you to comment, you did not reply even one and instead had the cheekiness to tell me to use my common sense. So who ended up not using their common sense? As for the PR’s racist remarks, you were the one who came up with the allegation, not me. You should have provided the proof even before I asked you, but now you’re asking me to find myself. So I shall just declare out loud that there was no PR members who said racist remarks. You agree, no?Have a nice day Killer.
