What car should state assemblymen use?

Since March, we’ve seen Trengganu snub “buy Malaysian product” stance by getting Mercedes. This is soon to be followed by Penang and Perak who opt for Toyota Camry. Naturally, Kedah and Selangor may be actively considering similar steps.

For me, I rather see the all elected reps take public transport. Let them stand side by side with the Bangladeshi worker or the old Indian lady. Let them hear young school boys cracking jokes or see cigarette smelling pakcik smiling happily.

Try praying daily that there won’t be traffic jam, the bus will arrive on time or won’t break down along the way. Try worrying that no pervert try to act funny with female passengers or some mentally disturbed person don’t sit next to you.

So, between Proton or Camry, choose the bus.

One thing though, the Proton rep said that average car traveling distance is 20,000 to 30,000km. I drive at least 50km per day. And it took me 9 months to reach 20,000km. Any assemblyman worth his/her position should be doing at least 3 times more traveling than average people like me.

So, which car would it be?

Closest Full Moon in 15 years

The moon was supposedly appeared larger due to its orbit being nearer to earth by 30,000km according to BBC report.

A full moon has occurred closer to the Earth than it has done at any time for the past 15 years.

The Moon’s elliptical orbit means its distance from the Earth is not constant.

It was a little over 350,000km away as it passed over the northern hemisphere, about 30,000km closer than usual.

Astronomers said the moon would appear brighter and larger than usual, but the sky in the UK was almost completely covered by cloud.

Friday’s full moon was predicted to appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full moons this year, according to Nasa.

Then took the pictures below without a tripod on Friday night.

In only our 3rd attemp at taking part in a motorised treasure hunt, we finally won something!

With three original members and a newbie as a driver, we tried our luck in the MIYC 2008 Hunt today. The hunt was around PJ/KL area and took about 4.5 hours (8.30 am till 1.00pm). It was very tiring, but with good effort between myself, Ananthi, Guru and Muru, we managed to finish the hunt in time and got our highest finish so far – 14th place. 28 teams took part, so that puts us in the top 50%. Well, I hope this will be the beginning of brighter future for us as a team.

Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures (didn’t bring the camera). Only shot is of our consolation prize (which I got to take home as proof for Then. Thanks guys!)

Can only catch people on bicycles?

I wrote about robbery in relative’s house last week. And what I read in papers this week? Policemen busy catching people riding bicycles! Aiyo! Are they filming some sort of comedy here?

JERIT (Jaringan Rakyat Tertindas) is running a “People Riding for Change” expedition, which had 65 participants, which is to stop over in Kedah, Penang, Perak and Selangor before proceeding to Parliament House to hand over a people’s claim to the government. They have harassed by police since day one. Don’t the police have anything better to do? If the crime in those states are under control, why not send those cops to Bukit Antarabangsa to help out the landslide victims?

I think the police are becoming fodder for tea time jokes. Hopefully they can clean up their image by chasing after mat rempits instead of harassing bicyclists. Just assign few men to monitor or cycle along (!) cukup la. Deploy others in public areas, flood prone areas, or send them to Bukit Antarabangsa la.

This JERIT people should have applied to state government for official support and request for police outriders. Then it will be correct – police assisting the public.

PPP burning its bridges or playing with words?

Missed my own blog for last 5 days! Hmmm…do I sound vain? Anyway, its been an hectic week. But so many things to write about. i’ll start with Drama Minggu Ini from our crowd favorite, PPP. As their President boldly ventured where no one has gone before (OK, I’m stretching it a bit here) by threatening BN to amend ISA, the reply from BN chairman, PM Badawi was simple – its their choice. In others words, PPP no need to waste time talking and issuing statement la. The PM is (in my humble opinion) telling PPP to ship out ASAP. Make the decision and quit BN since its their own choice. Free will. Or is PPP waiting for show cause letter as given to SNAP few months back?

Following that initial statement by Kayveas, a so-called self proclaimed PPP advisor (or is it former president according to Star) I.S. Rajah said he met the Barisan chairman and secretary-general at Parliament and gave them an undertaking that PPP would not leave Barisan. He also said Kayveas should resign or pull out the party from BN. BTW, this guy got sacked as PPP member today.

However, today’s episode sees PPP’s supreme council standing firm behind its president. The vice presidents also engaged in some “wayang kulit” by saying that the PM’s reply was just “merely in response to questions from the media”. It sees “no reason” to stay in BN if BY NEXT ELECTION (that’s about 4.5 years away at most) ISA is not amended. Well, are they expecting public to forget their threat in 15 months? (I chose 15 for the sake of 15th anniversary of Highland Towers which did not seem to teach us anything).

So, if you are a PPP member, what would you do? Err..of course this proper question would be why are you still a PPP member. 🙂
