Malaikkotai

I realized Vishal has a new title: Puratchi Thalapathi. Not that he needs it. This movie is a continuation of his “dishum dishum” antics from previous movies. The director Boopathi Pandiyan had a good premise, but as is the case with many other movies, spoilt it.Vishal (Anbu) is released on bail and asked to sign at the police station in Thiruchi daily, after getting involved in a fight with village gangsters led by Kadhal Dandapani. So, his family packs him off to Thiruchi to stay with his uncle Adish Vidhyarthi (Kandaswamy), who is a policeman at that police station. Oorvasi (Kamala) acts as a constable. On his way, he sees Priyamani (Malar) feeding the crows and falls in love with her.

On another track, we see villain Devaraj (Palani) and his brother, Ajay (Guna), who terrorise Malaikottai. Due to a murder investigation, Devaraj is forced to leave town, and passes control to his brother.

While trying to evade Vishal’s advances, Priyamani fibs that she is in love and points to the Ajay as her lover. Vishal, being the gentleman, approaches the villain and congratulates him. The villain becomes infatuated with Priyamani and chases after her. When she realized who the bad guy is, she is horrified. Vishal learns that those two are not in love and bashes Ajay to comatose level.

The Devaraj comes back and vows revenge for his brother’s condition. How Vishal bashes everyone else makes up the remaining of the movie.

Vishal’s acting is becoming predictable. Same stance, same stare, similar dialogues. Boring..boring. Chellamae, Sandaikhozhi, Thimiru, Sivapathigaram, and now Malaikkotai are making him an Action King. To hide that, he tried to install an element of comedy in this movie, which unfortunately reminds me of Vijay acting.

Adish Vidhyarthi has arguably the best roles. Known mostly for his villain roles, it was refreshing to see him as strict policeman with an unrequited love past. His comedy scenes, especially in the flashback scenes are not to be missed.

Oorvasi, as usual, provided comedy together with Adish Vidhyarthi. This was a stroll in the park for her. » Read more: Malaikkotai

Karpal joins Samy Vellu in attacking Kavyeas

October 3rd, 2007

Kavyeas seems to stir up one controversy after another – from MPAJ, Stephen's Corner, Taiping seat, CTOS, MIC, MAIKA, Tamil School status, etc.

Is that sign of a caring, charismatic leader fighting for the public, or as Karpal Singh puts it, "Kayveas is steadily becoming an embarrassment…but the country as a whole"?

Kayveas unfazed, continues to take digs at Samy Vellu

source
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk M. Kayveas is unperturbed by what he terms as Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu's attempts to embarrass him.

Although the MIC president had released a letter which could be potentially damaging to Kayveas, the People's Progressive Party (PPP) president remained unfazed and said he was more concerned about the plight of the Indian community.

Kayveas's letter, dated April 12, 1985, was written to thank Samy Vellu for STG2,000 education loan for Kayveas who was studying in England at that time. “By publishing the letter, Samy thinks he is embarrassing me but the joke is on him as his act only shows how low he can go. By writing the letter, it shows my culture and tradition of thanking people who have helped me. “The contents of the letter were genuine and written in high respect and hope on the man  who has taken charge of the uplifting of the Indian community.

“But it is very clear that he did not live up to the letter.

“It is good that the letter was made public as it is clear that after 22 years, he has failed the Indian community. “The claims of STG2,000 became an answer to the questions raised regarding the bad state of the Indian community. “As far as I am concerned, questions raised regarding the present situation of the Indian community have yet to be answered and fulfilled,” Kayveas said yesterday.

MIC released the letter on Monday as proof that Kayveas had benefited from monetary assistance from the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED) despite the PPP leader accusing MIC of lacking commitment in helping the Indian community. When contacted, Samy Vellu declined to comment further on the matter.

Amid the raging war of words between the two party leaders, Samy Vellu received a show of support from an unexpected source – the leader of an opposition party, no less. DAP chairman Karpal Singh voiced out his displeasure over Kayveas’ behaviour and even went so far as to call for him to step down as member of parliament for Taiping. “Kayveas is steadily becoming an embarrassment, not only to his voters in the Taiping parliamentary constituency, but the country as a whole. “Politicians should think before they speak, and not the reverse,” he said in a statement yesterday. Karpal said the government should upgrade Tamil schools, giving Indians their fair share of seats in universities and colleges in the country, and do away with discrimination against Indians in public service. “The government should strive for meritocracy which should be the acid test for public service and enrolment in universities and colleges,” he added.

All can apply to operate BHPetrol service stations now

By HAH FOONG LIAN

IPOH: Boustead Holdings Petrol (BHPetrol) has withdrawn one of the application criteria to operate its service stations, saying that effective immediately all races can apply.

A spokesman said the company has removed the condition stating that only bumiputra people could apply to operate its service stations.

However, the spokesman declined to elaborate why the requirement had been on its website in the first place.

Earlier yesterday, DAP Socialist Youth chief Nga Kor Ming told reporters that he had received numerous complaints that non-bumiputras were not considered for a licence to operate a service station.

He added that the company should consider the application based on merit and not race.

Education and Crime to top MCA AGM

both the Sun and Star focused on MCA’s AGM coming Sunday. Among the hot topics expected are related to education, crime prevention and economic opportunities. In fact, education matters are paramount to them till it takes up more than half of the resolutions proposed.

MCA is also worried about the support from the community since tension rising from antics of UMNO. In the end, MCA suffers since the chinese voters are not like the malays or indian voters who follow blindly. DAP will gain when MCA has a problem. Only option is for BN to field non-chinese candidates to fight DAP in their areas. But that would mean exchange of seats which will not go down well with other components.

THE STAR: Crime among the hot topics at MCA annual general assembly

KUALA LUMPUR: Fighting crime will be among the main topics for debate by delegates to the 54th MCA annual general assembly, said party secretary-general Datuk Ong Ka Chuan.

He said the rising crime rate was also likely to be discussed. “People are very concerned about the crime rate in areas such as Johor Baru. We want to come out with crime prevention programmes as well as work with police to combat crime,” he said in an interview.

Ong added that many of the resolutions received from the grassroots touched on public safety. “The community is worried. They are calling for a stronger police presence. There are even suggestions of starting night patrols. “The high presence of foreign workers is also very worrying, especially the ease with which they can gain employment as security guards.”

On Sunday, 2,341 delegates will attend the assembly, which is expected to be opened by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, at the Dewan San Choon here.

There have been many resolutions submitted on the economic sector calling for equal opportunity to participate in national economic programmes such as the Iskandar Development Region in Johor and Government projects under the Ninth Malaysia Plan.

“Another area of potential for the Chinese community is the modern agriculture sector. This will especially be attractive for rural youth and get them to stay in their home towns.”

THE SUN: Chinese support to dominate MCA debates
source
Giam Say Khoon
PETALING JAYA (Aug 16, 2007): Chinese support for the MCA is expected to dominate the debates at the party’s annual general assembly (AGM) on Sunday.
According to an aide of MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting, the party chief will focus on topics relating to the political strength of the Chinese community.

The source said the Chinese community always voted for opposition parties when it wants to disagree or show dissatisfaction to the ruling parties and “current sentiments don’t look good”.

“If the support (of the Chinese community) continues to split half for MCA and another half for the opposition parties, it is very worrying because they may vote emotionally just to disagree with Umno,” the source said.

The source said such sentiments of the community will weaken MCA’s voice in the Barisan Nasional, leaving the opposition to deal with Umno.

“The political relationship between the Chinese and Malays may worsen as Umno will never agree with the opposition. It is time for the Chinese community to think deeply,” the source said.

Selangor MCA organising secretary Lee Wei Kiat said the delegates would want the central leadership to five more attention to fighting crime.

“Increasing crime rates have been worrying delegates. They hope to raise the issue with central leaders so that the matter can be given priority by the Cabinet to look for more effective measures in crime prevention,” he added.

The article below is from today's Berita Harian – special report. It focuses on foreign workers outnumbering the Malaysian Indians. There are 1.91 million foreign workers and only 1.88 million Indians. So, there are roughly 30,000 more foreigners now, not including the estimate 400,000 illegal workers and another 10,000 in immigration detention depots.

According to the report as well, the Indian community's growth is slow due to late marriages and reduction in fertility among Indian women. However, the foreigners are expected to increase due to the demands for labor in 9th Malaysian Plan, with an estimated 1.2 million new workers needed.

In 2009, it is expected that foreign workers will be more than 2 million, while Indian population will be at 1.93 million. According to Immigration Department, there's an influx of 7,000 new foreign workers every month and is expected to increase regularly.

The report also stated that the current population stands at 27.17 million (Malays – 13.77m/50.68%; Chinese – 6.3m/23.19%; Other Bumiputras – 2.9m/10.67%; Indians – 1.88m/6.90%; others – 326,000/1.20%; foreigners – 1.91m/7.03%)

In 2009, the population is expected to reach 28.306 million (Malays – 14.409m/50.90%; Chinese – 6.437m/22.74%; Other Bumiputras – 3.128m/11.05%; Indians – 1.939m/6.85%; others – 340,000/1.20%; foreigners – 2.051m/7.25%)

Q: What does this comparison mean?

A. time to move on to greener pastures?
B. Time to reduce foreign workers?
C. Foreigners will start to demand more rights/privileges?
D. Foreigners will overtake Indian-monopolied crime rates?
E. Country have to fork out more $$ to handle foreigner workers – hospitals, public transport, schools, housing, etc.?
F. We are now officially "lain -lain"?

Laporan Khas: Pekerja asing melebihi masyarakat India

source
