KUALA LUMPUR: All the 3,700 MIC branch chairmen have been directed to form 20-member squads to secure the Indian votes for Barisan Nasional in the coming general election.

Party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said said the branch chairmen had been directed to form the squads, which would comprise Wanita, Youth, Puteri and Putera representatives. “The squad’s main is to identify each of the party’s 518,500 members who have registered as voters,” he said in a statement. Speculation Wanita MIC chief will be dropped

PETALING JAYA: Rumours are flying in MIC political circles that Wanita MIC chief Datin Paduka P. Komala Devi will be dropped from contesting in the coming general election. But the Kapar MP, who is also Education Ministry parliamentary secretary, is unfazed by the rumours, saying that this was the work of mischievous people. She said she had served the people well and had a good track record to show.

Last 20 years = RM30 million

9th MP = RM46 million (but not specifically mentioned in the 9th MP)

Last week = RM20 million (is this part of the RM46 million?)

Additionally Rm16.2 million for partially aided schools (is this part of the RM46 million?).

If we total up everything, we get  Rm112 million for the last 20 years and up to end of 9th Malaysian Plan (2010). We can round it up to Rm150 million for those ad-hoc expenses and allocations. So, Rm150/22 years = RM6.8million per year.

The two projects will not be in temple compound, so no interference from the temple committee. However, what if the commercial interests of the projects start to overrule Thaipusam celebrations in the future? Having a cultural heritage center near a religious place is fine, but building a recreation and tourism center needs careful planning so as to not blemish or insult the religious place. One would expect people going into religious places to be dress appropriately. As it is, even some of the Indian youths have terrible sense of dressing at Thaipusam. Future developments should not contribute to more breakdown of respect and responsibilities towards place of worship. » Read more: Batu Caves development plans
