Impact of UMNO and PAS talks

While some PAS stalwarts claim the talks between certain UMNO and PAS leaders were aimed to trap PAS, UMNO leaders asked the nation not to be worried as the focus is on Malay and Islam issues (well, that creates more panic now!). Lim Guan Eng says nothing much to worry but he was interested to know what the talks were all about.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad said DAP should
not be overly suspicious as Umno had not abandoned its multi racial
stance.

While UMNO leaders try to clear the air that the talks were purely on the topics above and that non-Muslims should not be worried, Khir Toyo proudly reveals that there were efforts to coax PAS to join UMNO and rule over Selangor just days after the general elections.

In a posting on his blog, Khir said Umno had offered its arch-rival
PAS the menteri besar post during a dialogue session held shortly after
the elections.

Apart from this, he said PAS was also offered the
deputy menteri besar as well as four executive councillors posts if it
agreed to form the coalition.

Khir also said he was willing to be
left out of the state government line-up if that would encourage PAS to
accept the partnership.

“I brought them (PAS) for a muzakarah
(dialogue) with the prime minister and suggested to Abdullah (Ahmad
Badawi) that PAS leaders in Selangor be offered those posts,” he added.

A PAS leader also mentioned that UMNO tried to offer them the Selangor Menteri Besar post in order to get back Selangor.

For PAS, the announcement of such talks have created discomfort and split in the party, something that will make UMNO happy.

For UMNO, this boosts the president’s standing and push him ahead of other pretenders.

Strangely enough, the rest of BN coalition are very quiet. We must remember that MCA, MIC, etc. are against PAS as a matter of political stand. So, how does this meetings affect them? Should Gerakan, a so-called multiracial party initiate talks with PKR or DAP? Wonder what UMNO will say on that 🙂

What is the response from MIC? Happy or unhappy? Any standard replies like “we have faith in the BN spirit”?

PAS was once aligned with UMNO in the BN before the went on separate ways. So, one can’t dismiss the possibility of such affliations happening in the near future. After the demise of Nik Aziz, the road will be clear for such partnership.

And that may well mean the end of BN coalition for MCA, Gerakan, MIC and other non-Muslim parties for UMNO-PAS team will try to “islamize” the country.

With attention turning towards UMNO-PAS topic, those leaders under pressure can breathe easier now. More headache for the rest of the pack.

For Pakatan, the brittle nature of the coalition is being put test. One problem after another keeps poppin up, and only matter of time before the coalition gives way. Most likely PAS will pull out, leaving DAP and PKR. So, PAS will be the dark horse. Will they join UMNO? That will cause MCA, MIC, Gerakan et. al. to leave BN. Will these parties team up with the Pakatan duo? That will change the political scenario into Malay Muslim versus non-Muslims. I believe there’s only one winner in that duel.

Will the time to migrate come soon?

PAS interferes in other religions

This is most embarrassing, a criminal act. If the PAS authorities are so worried about the muslims being attracted by sexily clad female performers, they should just limit themselves by putting some officers there to arrest such people. It is clear to all that the function is a private program held inside the Taoist temple compound. What business do these muslims have over there. Instead of catching the offenders, the authorities go and harass the organisers. Where go fair?

The organisers were asked to cover up the show – a two-day concert with male and female artistes. The event, to celebrate the birthday of the Gods, was held with an
outdoor community concert organised by members of the Tao Tin Hu Keng
Association.

The Takiyuddin fellow from PAS said that guidelines on outdoor performances clearly stated that female artistes
were barred from performing. He said that although the concert was
within the temple compound, it was held in an open space where others
could watch. He said any permit given by the local authorities were subjected to the same bylaws and should be respected by all.

I think these guys should be more tolerant and understanding instead of enforcing such rules on others. Have some common sense and educate your own people first, instead of going around asking people to cover up their programmes.

Pas Youth sent away with tails between its leg

Well, we can always trust PAS to create problem for the triumvirate. DAP and PKR are more liberal and encompass general Malaysian values, while PAS only represents a section of the society.

This time, PAS Youth opposed the selection of performers for Sultan of Selangor Cup (annual football match between Selangor and Singapore) and threatened to organise a demonstration. The organisers chose Ella and Mas Idayu. I heard of Ella, but not the other singer, so don’t ask me. You can ask PAS since these guys said the ladies dress sexily and danced provocatively (like those middle east belly dancers?). I guess that depends on the eye of the beholder (PAS Youth may have some eyesight problems) since other Malaysians don’t seem to complain.

Their protest received condemnation from practically everyone. The singers gave them an earful.

Are they saying that if all artistes were banned from performing on stage, social illnesses would be eradicated?

The Sultan saw it fit to reply in anger. He said their action was “trivial”. My, is that an insult or what! All this would have made PAS to sweat.

The public  meanwhile, laughed at this jokers.

Khalil, alarmed at the controversy, plans to arrange meeting between PAS youth and the palace.

And today’s breaking news says that PAS dropped its plan to protest. It would only send a letter to the organisers.

Please wake up PAS. You are in Selangor, not middle east.

Looks like PAS is doing something extra for the Indian community in Kelantan. Everything starts well, let’s hope it goes on well. No news of cronyism, bribery, leaking roof, etc. will be great!

PAS wants to lead Pakatan Rakyat and aim for islamic state

I’ve always had my doubt on PAS. I think anything based on religion will cause problem. So, this kind of statement only serves to alienate people from PAS. DAP will also suffer since people will start to question DAP.

To avoid Pakatan Rakyat from becoming another BN, PAs should not lead. It consists of Muslim-Malays, just like UMNO in BN. And we have seen how BN works. Its better for a multiracial party to lead Pakatan Rakyat.

I think DAP and PKR should merge, and let PAS to contest by itself in next election. » Read more: PAS wants to lead Pakatan Rakyat and aim for islamic state
