15 minutes????

Something wrong somewhere. 15 minutes is barely enough to arrange the crowd, get into line and start shouting at same time. How can the MB simply agree to the police’ suggestion that outdoor protest is limited to 15 minutes, after which the protestors have to go indoors? Even PKR itself can’t organise a protest in 15 minutes la! Ini macam gol sendiri.

Wait a minute, maybe he meant 15 minutes outdoors, 1 minute indoors, another 15 minutes outdoors, then go back indoor for 1 minute, then another 15 minutes outdoors….and so on?

Perak EXCO doesn’t know MIDA!

I nearly fell of my chair when I read the following:

State Industry Development and Information Committee chairman Tai Sing Ng (PKR-Kuala Sepetang) bore the brunt of it when he was ticked off by Datuk Ramly Zahari (BN-Manong) for not knowing what was Mida (Malaysian Industrial Development Authority) as it was under Tai’s portfolio.

Ramly asked a supplementary question on whether all foreign direct investments (FDI) into Perak was approved by Mida.

Seeing Tai’s puzzled look, Ramly asked Tai whether he knew what Mida was.

When Tai said he did not know, Ramly said: “Don’t know? Sorry.”

How in the world can an EXCO don’t know what is MIDA? Students learn in school itself. Worse still, this guy is the EXCO in charge of Industry Development in Perak. Like this means can close shop soon!

I label this under Crime!

Selangor MB supports UiTM for all

well, this won’t go down well with the myopic few. Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said that he agrees with suggestion by state executive councillor for higher
education Dr Halimah Ali, who said there was nothing wrong in opening
up UiTM to non-Bumiputeras. He went further to suggest that 10% of the places are reserved for non-Bumiputeras and foreign students (something like matriculation).

He said the move would be timely as it followed the changes in the education system. At the same time, it would give early exposure to UiTM students to be more friendly towards other races.

“UiTM was set up to uplift Malays and Bumiputeras from Sabah and Sarawak in the education sector. This effort must continue.

“But at the same time, UiTM should think more globally to ensure their graduates are more friendly with people of different races in the nation.”

He said inter-ethnic interaction was crucial for UiTM graduates as they would be better prepared to step into the working world, which was far different from life as they knew it.

I can guess that the responses will be – “there are many other ways to create inter-ethnic interactions, why pick on UiTM”, “number of students in UiTM small compared to private colleges/universities, so not much effect”, “over my dead body”, “don’t dare to question our rights”, “normal Malaysians won’t be interested to join UiTM”, etc etc.

MPAJ councillor under scrutiny

Out of the two (Star) or three (NST) MPAJ councillor nominees alleged to have criminal records or under investigation, one is said to have a criminal record.EXCO Ronnie Liu says that the list was sent to ACA, police and Bank Negara, but no response from them. So, he said that “cannot wait for six months”. So, looks like its not that the new government didn’t send, but the respondents never replied. This makes me think, how can the previous state government elect their councillors so fast? Is it because of good relationship with the ACA/police/Bank Negara (this implies that new state government is not given due cooperation by these organizations) or the previous government never really vetted their councillors. Which is which?

Two councillors will be asked to make statutory declarations (what’s with these declaration thing nowadays?) so that they can be jailed if they are found to have made a false statement. Also, the appointment for councillor position is one year, after which it will be reviewed.

Meanwhile, according to checks with police, only one of the three (a 50-year old PKR member) had a police conviction (for ROBBERY!). Two others – Supriamany Sinnayapal, 59, and Sooria Narayanan, 38, were clean.

Supriamany, a retired Tenaga Nasional Bhd technician, said:

“I am a victim of political assassination. I have no criminal records. I have never dealt in drugs, stolen or committed murder. Why am I being implicated in this?” he said, adding that he was considering legal action.

Sooria Narayanan, of the Ampang Indian Community Charity Bureau, also expressed shock at the allegation, adding that it had tarnished

his reputation. He also said he did not lobby to become a councillor but was offered the post. The Star reported that one of the two nominees to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) accused of having been involved in criminal activities has served two years in restricted residence in Gua Musang. It is learnt the nominee was sent as a restricted resident to the remote Kelantan town from 2003-2005 for suspected vice activities.

From robbery to vice. Still unclear on the whole situation.
