Received this from a friend about two weeks back, but was shelved due to the temple issues (here, here and here).

I trawled through MAS website and managed to find their Communications Division email and forwarded this to them as well.

Subject: [www.umic.org.my] Mana Ada System!

I logged into a few airline’s websites today looking for the price of air tickets to Europe. To name a few, Qantas, BA, Emirates SIA and of coz MAS to make fare comparisons.

Before I go on, I would like to tell you checking flight rates and availability on all the other websites has been a breeze except for MAS.

Let me share with you what I have experienced:

If the date is unavailable for the destination you choose, it immediately gives you a default message mentioning the obvious: “sorry the flight on the date either unavailable”. Mind you this is not always the case. There are times you don’t get any message. You are re-routed to the same selection page.

This resets the Date column back to present date. I believe this is a glitch in the website. This forces you to re-select the “To/from” cities and “Dep/arr” dates all over again (I think you can picture how troublesome this is). So once you re-select your choices, try to find the next available date by trial and error hoping you will strike. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack! Imagine doing this on the year end period – chances of finding an available ticket is soooo low.

In other airlines, for eg Qantas, they would give you option of the nearest available date so you could consider other option.

After trying for about 15 times, I am told my session time is out that I have to “re-login”. Lol! After this no matter how many times you login you still keep getting
kicked to Session time out page.

Looks like MAS doesn’t want you to consider other options, and if you want they expect you to re-do and keep trying till you strike a date that is available.

Btw, just for your info, MAS apparently doesn’t deal with travel agents. A few agents I have approached told me that MAS only allows direct booking as they have not been licensed to sell the tickets! I’m not sure if this is for all agents however.

Now can someone explain to me why a company who is doing so badly would make it as difficult as possible for customers to buy their tickets!

Never mind, I still wanted to give it a try thru phone booking. But alas! I was kept on hold till I gave up!

No wonder MAS is in deep ****. Perhaps someone working for MAS can forward my feedback to Mr Idris Jala. It’s about time he stops looking at his pretty paintings in his office and start concentrating on e-ticketing business!

UMIC is one of the recepients of this noble act. The provisions allocated to UMIC were channelled to Sungai Buloh families. Thanks to Dato' Rai and Mr Mahendra, among others for helping us to help others.

DO businessmen think only profits and have no compassion for the poor and needy? Certainly not the Hindu tradesmen from Kuala Lumpur's famed Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Masjid India.

For nearly 50 years, it has been an annual tradition during Deepavali for these businessmen to come together to collect and donate large amounts of groceries to be distributed to the poor and needy during the festive season.

According to this year's project co-coordinator Mahendra Kumar Malani, the tradesmen are very generous and each year the amount of groceries increases. Mahendra said the annual collection usually started about three weeks before the festival.

This year, about 200 poor families from Klang, Setapak, Sentul and Sungai Buloh were given RM200 worth of groceries each.

Businessman Ramesh Kodammal said the practice was initiated by the late Datuk Gurdial Singh about 50 years ago and was continued by the late Datuk Makhan Lal. "The Gujurati, Punjabi, Sindhi and south Indian businessmen from the area work closely together to ensure that the needy receive some contribution during Deepavali,'' Kodam-mal said. He said that they hoped to continue the tradition for many more years to come. "We will continue to do this every year and are looking at increasing the amount of groceries given out to the needy,'' he said.

Subject: [www.umic.org.my] Temple Demolished in Padang Jawa Klang
Reply-To: ****************

Hello all,Let me tell you all the exact issue. This temple was headed by demised former Exco of Selangor state. It is being said a court order released on 2005. The order was then was brought to authorities by the Exco and decided not to touch the temple until a land is given to temple. The developer has allocated a portion for the temple but the land is not ready yet. How and where to move without a land is shown and given? The housing area behind the temple is being cleared out and the houses are being relocated. We are aware that the houses being demolished but NOT the temple. To be safe, selangor state and exco authorities was met and with the developers consent it was decided and ensured the temple will not be touched. All of a sudden on early morning on 30th October 2007 the so called authorities (MBSA) came into the temple with hammers and axes with their shoes ON without a respect to the prayers going on at the temple. (went into the inside deities’ place (karuvarai)). They was forcefully stopped and notice was asked to be shown, court order to be shown . But they can’t produce any. Only being told that it was decided to demolish the temple late night on 29th Oct. They very reluctant to hear any of the temple committees words. Finally after a long long talk, they decided to give the time until 2pm to remove the deities. They immediately went to demolish the kindergarten which belongs to the temple ( Class was going on at that time, the childs were rushed out from kindergarten ). The kindergarten was demolished with all valuable belongings of the temple and kindergarten. At 2pm sharp the so called BATTALION of MBSA, RELA, FRU, POLICE ( the situation was like a war zone ). Our Indian crowds gathered in front of the battalion. Hindraf and their lawyers, independent lawyers, some MIC reps tried to talk to them. Nothing could stop them. MBSA informed NO ONE could stop this as this is direct order from selangor MB. At 4 pm, they moved into the temple. This where when the free for all started. Exchange of stone throwing between the public and the force (peaceful priests and public was inside the temple) ended up in tensed situation. The scene was like racial tension. At the end, the force overpowered with the tear gasses, water jets, batons and with guns. Datuk Seri came to the scene too late at abu 5 pm after part of the temple already demolished. He informed nothing was be able to be done. The situation became even tensed then. Datuk Seri was rushed off then. Now, this has become a National issue and its not known what is going to happen? This is our fate of Indians even though a lot of NGO’s and the public protesting against Indian community discrimination. The date 30th Oct 2007 has changed entirely the life’s of some of the Hindus in the area. Some innocent members of the public and a temple committee was arrested. If this is happening tO Padang Jawa Indians, its not very far away to other places as well. There’s no say for our leaders. No respect for our believes, our faith, our rights !!!!

shah alam temple demolished and media blackout

The temple demolishment in Padang Jawa area (Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Taman Karuppiah, Shah Alam) was first highlighted in the UMIC forum by one of the members. However, confirmation came in after 6pm, while SMSes started to arrive after 8pm.

I checked with an acquaintance in the print media yesterday night, who did not anything about it. Nothing was mentioned in the news at Vaanavil Bernama, TV2, TV3 buletin Utama, and Nightline. Nothing too in Star Online, NST, The Sun etc. Only report was in Malaysiakini. This was preceded by statements issued by Hindraf and MHS.

From what we have read, Hindraf paints a terrible picture of massacre level – equating MBSA with Myanmar's junta. Still, we have to take it with a pinch of salt.

Some reports mentioned that even MBSA staff were injured. Well, I guess the people didn't give any quarters.

Malaysiakini mentioned that the area was to be cleared – houses, temple and a surau as well. It also quoted DAP's representative saying that Samy Vellu mentioned Khir Toyo being stubborn (un-cooperative) and did not want to give any time for discussions. I suppose what made the people angry is the insensitivity shown by the government servants in dealing with the public.

MHS as usual issued a statement, which will be disposed into recycle bins as fast as they arrived in emails and print.  People may get fed up with this soon.

Since this was done in a hurried manner, I suspect money has a bigger role rather than an agenda  to get rid of Indians or to create racial tension. In the end, its all about the money trail or as it is often put "benefits to the rakyat" (read: certain rakyat only, especially those living in houses bigger than some schools). Of course, I have no proof. But if the law is on your side, would you still go bulldozing ahead and do things illegally?

The action by Khir Toyo does not bode well. After all the committees, discussions, task forces etc being created at federal and state level to amicably solve these kind of religious issues, he goes ahead and does as he likes. This flies in the face of MIC and MHS who called for restraint and asked the Indians not to retaliate in earlier cases throughout the country.

Well, I guess no one will be inviting Khir Toyo for Deepavali open house this year! Unless shameless Kamala Ganapathy, Komala, Samy Vellu, Palanivel etc. does an about turn and say that Khir Toyo is Pembela Rakyat India!

fireworks competition at putrajaya by team japan

After missing the launch of Malaysian International Fireworks Competition (MIFC) at putrajaya, where Team Malaysia put on a show (i thought it was at 10.30pm when it was at 10pm) and also missing Team Australia’s show due to UMIC’s treasure hunt, I was determined not to miss the performance by Team Japan right at the stroke of midnight 31st August 2007.

We arrived early (about 9pm) due to news that traffic was bad whenever the fireworks where held. Managed to park the car next to PICC’s entrance.

It was raining in the morning and evening so the place was quite wet and the earth soggy. We walked around the fun fair area to see what the hype was all about. Nothing much actually.

We finally lodged ourselves along the road in front of PICC, near the fun fair area, which provided a good view of the Gemilang Bridge (where the fireworks were shot from). It was about 300 metres from the launch site. Then was quite tired, but since i’ve been bugging her to come, she obliged.

The crowd grew steadily to about 1000 people just around our area. According to organisers and the papers, there were easily 100,000 over people on each of the nights. This being the eve of Merdeka, I suspected the crowd would be worse.

At 12am midnight, after Negaraku was played, Team Japan started their show. It was good. Among the highlights were heart-shaped fireworks and the final display which showed a bright yellow mass that grew and grew till it filled up the whole sky. However the show was marred by the amount of smoke that was generated. Some of the fireworks could not be seen properly.

The show lasted about 20 minutes and I’m sure the crowd enjoyed the show. However, the nighmare had begun. It took us 10 minutes to remove our car since everyone triple-parked. Then, another 1.5 hours from PICC to LDP, and I was damn tired of hitting on the pedals. The jam was bad as it was all the way from PICC to the Puchong LDP toll and beyond. The same occured on the LDP – Dengkil route. I managed to enter the road to Cyberjaya and from there made a U-turn and entered the winding road passing by Kg Meranti and the kampung areas. Still, reached home at 2.15am…and the next day is the parade! Don’t know can wake up or not!!!

On the way back, we were listening to PM’s speech at the Dataran Merdeka, which made me more sleepy. Probably he was tired of giving too many speech and moving around too much. Heard the the celebrations was quite grand at the dataran.

The photos were shot on lower aperture (3.8 – 4.2) and slower shutter (generally 1 – 2 sec). Sometimes i used timer to trigger the shot in order to avoid shaky images. Definitely need to get remote trigger, wireless hopefully! As i mentioned, the smoke made it difficult to get clear images and sometimes the view was blocked by the people standing around us. Enjoy the slides below and view the images at Picasa as well. Focus on the last 10 images which show the growing yellow fireworks.
