  12. Mangai says:

    Dear Poobalan,

Good day to you Poobalan. I’m Mangai currently looking for gov job. I’ve pass the exam for Pegawai Belia dan Sukan (gred KB41), Pegawai Tadbir (Gred N 41) and Penguasa Bomba( gred 41) in 2008 and waiting for interview. A year past till today have not received any calling letter yet. I had refer this to SPA, a personnel said if you apply for lower position you might get the vacancy. I’m a bachelor degree holder. Please advise what shall I do. My current job olso not stable.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Mangai,

If I’m not mistaken, the results are valid for a year only. if never get letter for interview means you were not short-listed. but actually SPA would have sent a letter or asked you to check at website or to call them.

apply for lower-level job using bachelor degree is one possibility, from there you can try apply for degree-level job. my advice is if you are below 28 years old, then can still try for government job. if older than that, not worth it as your living expenses would be higher with family and all.

  13. Motchapathy @ Santhi A/P Palaniappan says:

    I am a widow. I have a son (10 years old)and daughter (9 years old).

My son dont want to study or listen to my advise. I am worried that he will get spoiled. I am thinking of sending him to an Ashram.

    Pls advice.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Ms Santhi,

Your son is still young, so there’s plenty of chances to mold him. I’m not sure about your location, maybe there are some counselors or NGOs that can help out.

Sending to ashram is not a good option in my opinion, because the child will need the mother’s care, support and attention. i know, it is easy for me to simply say because I’m not in that situation.

i would suggest that you try to talk to the school teachers. if can, get to know his friends and parents of his friends. from there you can understand who/what is influencing him. is it friends or media? or he has too much free time on his hands?

as for studying problem – give motivation, perhaps a challenge for him like to get top ten in class and maybe can go on short trip somewhere. tell him to be role model for his sister and that he has responsibility. how about sending for tuition? or get some workbooks for him to practise? how is his studies? does he understand what the teacher teaches him? if possible, spend time to go through his books and school stuff.

there are so many factors involved and maybe you and I don’t know the whole picture. need to investigate and find out more information.

i know you have constraints being single parent with 2 kids to support. how about any relative who can come and talk to him from time to time?

  14. Motchapathi @ Santhi Palaniapan says:

    Dear Mr Poobalan,

    Thanks for your fast reply.

i’m staying in Jb. Can you recomend me any counselors or NGOs, so that i can bring my son to them for help. My sister and brothers are helping me in financial and sending him to tuitions. They always advice him but my son dont listen to their advice.

He is mixing with wrong friends. So i think it will be better if i bring him to see any counselors or NGO as you said.

    Thanks for your advice.

Maybe your trainer company is having some problem with HR Ministry. you can visit http://www.mohr.gov.my and send feedback via their website, can send to the minister Dr Subra too.

my father is a retired man, looking for any part time job.Can you give any suggestion. Thank You very much

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Kokila,

if you father has any skills/knowledge from his old job, he can try to do freelance or consultation work. he can consider teaching part time or tuition. best is to look around the neighborhood to see what kind of opportunities exists. some retirees go in to MLM, unit trust, insurance etc too. others may use their savings to set up small business – but depends on what your father’s interest and the surrounding area situation.

    Hi Mr Poobalan,

I have years of experience in senior post but possess any paper qualification. I am with healthcare back ground. Can you please advice me on any distance learning programs, probably on allied sciences or healthcare management

    Thank you

    Uma

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Ms Uma,

Well, with years of experience, i’m sure you have contacts with the providers of man power in your industry. talk to HR and see where the employees are coming from. Or check with colleagues where they did their post-grads or diplomas etc. that’s one way to start.

if you have SPM, then you can try for executive diploma and then go to executive MBA. or do a degree and then postgraduate.

other than talking to HR and colleagues, talk to the usual suspects – colleges like masterskill, segi, kdu, help, sunway, assunta, etc.

be careful though of degree mills, that guarantee degree with minimum work. it may be scrutinised by current and future employers.

    hi,
currently im jobless. before this i was doing my own business until my friend played me out. im 26 years old. is there a place where i can continue my studies or work without using my spm results as its really bad. just for your info i dont have other qualifications. i hope u can reply to my e-mail. god bless u..

    • poobalan says:

      hi shankar,

study or work without using SPM cert…this is interesting question.

for study: you can always take up MLVK courses since its requirements are very minimum, but your age may be a problem. if you passed BM and have a credit in maths/science, then can try for certificate courses in many private colleges. you can still enrol for SPM BM paper to get try get credit or retake some subjects to get better score.

for work: most places require at least credit in certain subjects in SPM like BM, English. Factories do hire workers with minimum SPM qualifications as operators. Small businesses may be more flexible in hiring you, so why not try companies or offices near your home?

I m also PTM Trainer. I will be happy if u share ur idea.NANDRI VANNAKAM

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Mrs Tamilselvi,

It’s great to hear your effort to be self-employed and at the same time offer something to the community. Preschool and day care services depends on two things – the service and the location. Service means the children must well taken care of, and one tell tale sign is that the child must be happy to come to the center. Service also means proper facilities, cleanliness, and teacher. So, maybe you can do some evaluation/checking. If the service is not good, parents will talk, and you will lose customers. The second thing – location. If your housing area is having more mature population, then it means less young couple and young children. So, the market is not there. You have to do survey a bit.
You need to also do promotion – pamphlets via newspaper, notice/banner etc. But if its home-based, then its not licensed so you can’t put legal banners. You can also put notices in he shops around your housing area. Can also promote via email, Internet forums.
      all the best.

    Poobalan,

I have 10 years experience in manufacturing environment as supervisor. After retrenched, I took Oracle course sponsored by MDec and plan move to IT field. Anyhow, find it is difficult to get job employer looking for expereince and other IT skills. I have Social Science degree and MBA. Do advise do I need to go to the related field or trying for ICT jobs. Which job that will be suitable for my working experience ?

    Regards,
    Asockumar

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Asockumar,

Since your experience is in manufacturing line (plus you have MBA and Social Science degree), I’ll stick with that area. Learning Oracle and expecting to get high salary as a freshie is difficult. But hey, since you have those qualifications, why not keep on trying for both types of jobs.

thank you sir for your reply

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Kalai,

I would suggest Maths or technical/vocational field which you are teaching – easier to get scholarship or future promotion. Management is very general, and not suitable if you plan to stay in education line.

  38. Alifi says:

    Mr.Poob..

It has come to my awareness that there had been some job scam in jobsmalaysia portal which is a government based website to help jobseekers. As i went through it, there are indeed some advertisement which are irreverent and unlogic such as 200 vacancies and even over 20 advertisements from same college for the same job but from different advertisers..

It is sad to know that there are some irresponsible people out there who exploits this facilities for their own benefits. I think u should write something on this topic so that jobseekers out there would be careful with such fraud and scam. TQ

    more info http://skorcareer.com.my/blog/job-scams-in-jobsmalaysia-portal/2009/12/15/

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Alifi,

Thank you for the info. The HR ministry is aware of such scams going on, and the minister had asked the public to forward complaints to his ministry for them to take action. I guess as job-seeker, one should be careful and be wary of scammers. I shall research a bit on this and hopefully write an article soon.

second is through the state governments. visit the respective state govt website for their contact info.

third is the adun/mp of the area. again, state govt website would have contact details.

    Hi..Mr.Poobalan

Sir my name sheetal..i’m married woman having problem with my husband. i would like to get advice from counselor. Can u pls help me to find or recomend me any counselors or NGO.

      Hi Sheetal,

if its legal, then consider AWAM (www.awam.org.my) or Bar Council (www.malaysianbar.org.my).

if its health, can go to any govt hospital and ask for counselling or family clinic.

if its relationship, can try AWAM, Befrienders (www.befrienders.org.my)

if religious, have to contact your religious body. Hindu Sangam for Hindus, and so on.

There’s also WAO (www.wao.org.my), Jabatan Kebajikan (www.jkm.gov.my), DHRAA (refer to my blog’s sidebar – near the bottom).

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Tiyagu,

3As is a bit hard to get scholarships. you can still try for those that give priority to those from low income families (if you are qualified). your other options is to study in politeknik for diploma, or STPM. you can also pursue foundation or diploma in private college/uni.

there’s two pages of active scholarships in this blog, so read them up and see if any can fit your requirements.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Rajalaxmy,

your ambition is dentistry. how about option in IPTS? if your family can consider that, then you can go for foundation programs in IPTS and then continue for degree in dentistry. i have not compiled list of IPTS offering dentistry, but you can search in http://www.afterschool.my or http://www.studymalaysia.com to see which IPTS offers dentistry. you can also talk to placement agents who can suggest which overseas uni you can try for. refer to my Related Websites page in this blog for list of agents.

Yes, can get F6. i think your school would allocate place for you. check with them. if you can enter F6, why bother re-sitting those papers in SPM, right?

yes you can apply for scholarship, but i’m not sure if there’s any for diploma in pharmacy at the moment. pls check the Scholarship page of this blog.

your choice of continuing studies depends on the term of the scholarship. if the sponsors wants you to work with them for certain years, then you have to do so.
