Hindraf not taking part in Bersih rally

Found out that HINDRAF will not be participating in Bersih 2.0 rally. According to Uthaya, its because they don’t want to support the PR team this time.

Hindraf Makkal Sakti will not be participating in the July 9 Bersih 2.0 rally, said its leader P Uthayakumar.

“We are not participating because Pakatan Rakyat failed to endorse our 18-point demand made in 2007,” he added in a press statement.

Uthayakumar was responding to a news report that linked the Hindraf rally to the first Bersih rally in 2007 that swung public sentiment against the government during the 2008 general election.

The former Internal Security Act detainee said back then, the movement supported Pakatan because it did not have a choice.

“Hindraf did not have a political choice but to give the unconditional political directions to support Pakatan. But after the 2008 general election, it became more plain and obvious that PKR, DAP and PAS like the Umno-BN regime only wanted Indian votes,” he said.

He added that the situation was different now because Hindraf has a political platform, namely the Human Rights Party (HRP).

However, Uthayakumar said Hindraf will back Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and Pakatan on the condition that HRP is allowed to contest 15 parliamentary and 38 state seats in the next polls.

“We are committed to politically ending Umno’s rule of Putrajaya; we support Pakatan taking over Putrajaya and even Anwar becoming the next prime minister of Malaysia but on condition of HRP’s ‘Project 15/38? as the internal check and balance mechanism so that the Indian poor are not segregated or excluded from national mainstream development of Malaysia,” he added.

He also indicated that there were proposals for another Hindraf rally to be held on Nov 25.

The Star says its poll on Bersih rally was manipulated

After removing the poll noon today, The Star says:

On Monday evening, The Star Online put up a poll on the proposed Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9.

The poll asked respondents for their opinion: should it be cancelled, or should it be allowed to go on.

In less than a day, it drew more than a million responses which caused the team to suspect that the results were being manipulated. The Star Online polls attract an average of not more than 30,000 responses over several days.

Furthermore, the total number of unique visitors to The Star Online is about 400,000 per day, lending further credence to our suspicion that there was manipulation afoot.

This could be done in several ways, for example through scripted routines or “bots” that come in to a site to perform the same task over multiple repetitions. Indeed, an initial examination of our site logs showed about one million submissions to the poll page from just one IP address.

Therefore, acting upon the belief that the poll results were tainted, we made the decision to take it offline just before noon Tuesday.

We regret that our effort to give the public a voice has been tainted by this act.

That begets the question, why not safeguards for their polling mechanism? At the very least, they should have been alerted when the voting numbers crosses certain threshold so that the administrator can check the logs.

The Star Poll on Bersih goes missing

Interesting indeed.  After I posted about the 1 million over votes in support of Bersih poll held by Star online, it seems the poll disappeared around noon, as per Malaysiakini report which also said that the votes in support reached 1.3 million. Readers can check the polls section  at http://polls.thestar.com.my/ and notice that the current poll is about RON95 ban for foreign registered cars.

Does this mean:

a) The poll was tampered/manipulated and The Star closed it down?

b) The poll result is accurate but its not something that the newspaper wants to show?

c) The newspaper was “advised” to remove the poll due to national security or other reasons?

The ball is on The Star’s court.

This is by far, the most number of respondents I’ve ever seen in a local poll. Granted The Star has wide readership, but still, 1 MILLION votes? Wow!!!! Even The Star previous polls recorded only 4  or 5 figure responses at times.

And if its true, definitely a very stinging tight slap on PERKOSA’s ugly face.

Be careful when you buy house with skylight bathroom

Well, in bolehland, you never know what will happen next door. Imagine the horror of the folks below. Your cool skylight shower may end up providing entertainment to others.

I REFER to my complaint which was published on May 12 entitled “Another project to add to traffic jam”.

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) replied to me on May 27, saying that two notices and two summonses were issued to Iswarabena Sdn Bhd for causing the traffic jam. MBSA will also observe the traffic condition around this area from time to time.

Will this help when the 11 blocks of 16-storey commercial buildings are fully constructed, channelling more cars into the surrounding area?

An officer from Enforcement Department called me on June 1 to say that land-clearing activities on the vacant land was not illegal. How could MBSA approve such a gigantic project before seeking our permission? Is it not the right of the nearby residents to decide the neighbourhood planning?

How could MBSA approve a commercial building project near to a housing estate? Should MBSA plan to have such commercial activities, our housing area should not have been approved in the first place.

I would like to remind MBSA that each house in my housing estate has a skylight bathroom, the doors and windows are all facing the 11 blocks of 16-storey commercial building. We definitely will have no privacy when the commercial building is up.

The development will surely disturb the lives of nearby residents, from construction stage to the completion stage, and the tenants’ occupation. Please stop this project immediately!
