Parliament abbatoir or market

Not sure if anyone remembers cows and goats being slaughtered in parliament compound which happened last year July. Reason? Celebrating the wedding of our prime minister. The MPs organised a “kenduri” (reception). Agreed, the slaughter was in the compound and not in the building itself. But I doubt the cries and smell of the animals were more pleasant compared to a 6-year old’s birthday which was surrounded by about 15 people. TV3 showed the birthday celebration clip which was held in the lobby, during the 8pm news. They focused on comment by one of the officials that Parliament is becoming like “Central Market”.

I think its not an appropriate place to have birthday parties, even though its a simple cake cutting ceremony only. Of course only the opposition MPs will attend and show support. And this will be used by the others to cast a bad light on the whole thing.

Samy goes begging again for scholarships!

I remember Samy saying “no more begging” when Pahang EXCO line up did not have any Indians in it (well, only one candidate is available!). I suppose he only meant for that specific case. Now its that time of the year (nope, not X’mas or Deepavali) where a short serial drama is played out.

This time, only 72 out 2000 (3.6%) recipients were Indians. Stories are aplenty about students with lesser As getting scholarship due to their privileged status. Just check the letters section in The Star yesterday for some examples.

As usual, the aggrieved students and parents have no choice but to approach political parties (heard PKR’s Gopalakrishnan is organising a meeting as well, while Sivanesan had done so in Perak). Then, the party will be made to look like saviours when in fact it was their failure that bought the community down to this level in the first place. I think the parents and student are more mature now. They’ll just nod their heads at Samy’s speech, agreeing to everything he says, put up with “words of advice” until their kids get the scholarships. But when come to election time, another rout for MIC is expected. Don’t think that the community can be fooled by this kind of drama. » Read more: Samy goes begging again for scholarships!

Wow! This is quite serious, detainee (temporarily?) paralysed until need to use wheelchair. His condition was not informed to even his wife until brought out for treatment. Wonder why he is detained for until end up like this.

Wife of ISA detainee lodges report, alleges torture

KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of an Internal Security Act detainee lodged a police report yesterday against the Home Ministry, police and the Kamunting detention centre in Perak, claiming her husband had been tortured.
Sharmila Uthiakumar claimed her husband Sanjeev Kumar Krishnan, 25, is now wheelchair-bound because of the torture.

In her report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters, she claimed her husband’s legs and his left hand were paralysed.

This was the second report to be lodged. The first was lodged by Sanjeev on April 25, at the Taiping police headquarters.

Sharmila said before her husband’s two-year ISA detention, he was remanded for 60 days until Sept 22 last year.
“I was only informed about my husband’s condition in April this year, after he was brought by the camp authorities to the Taiping Hospital for treatment.”

Waytha returns the ball to Syed Hamid’s court by implying that the minister is lying about his passport. So, let’s wait for the minister’s reply.

Waytha: Syed Hamid lied about my passport

Hindu Rights Action Force chairperson P Waythmoorthy today accused the Malaysian government of lying over the status of his passport.  He said that it was “absolutely ridiculous and a blatant lie” for the Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar to claim that his passport was not revoked.

Waythamoorthy was also upset with Syed Hamid in shrugging off the issue by stating that a misunderstanding could have occurred over the status of the passport.

Syed Hamid had earlier said that “probably because the passport had expired”. “How can he lie like this? Aren’t his officers briefing him on what’s happening to Malaysians abroad?” asked Waythamoorthy.  He said that his passport was to expire in 2010 and that he, of all persons, would know the validity of his travel document.

“The problem started when I returned to London from Zurich on April 21 and was informed by the UK immigration officer at Gatwick Airport that the Malaysian government had revoked my passport,” he told Malaysiakini.

Is Syed Hamid saying that the British immigration authorities are lying?” he asked when contacted by telephone today.

Waythamoorthy had revealed the cancellation of his travel document in a press statement on Friday.

On the same day, Syed Hamid, when asked to comment on the issue, rejected the claims, stating that Waythamoorthy’s passport had not been revoked.  Syed Hamid added that the “misunderstanding” was probably because Waythamoorthy’s passport had expired and he could have his passport renewed at the Malaysian High Commission in London. » Read more: Waytha accuses minister Syed Hamid of lying

300 million is to raise equity

After making an audacious request of RM300 million per annum till 2020, Samy clarifies that it is to raise “indian equity”, and to invest in agro-based business and school affairs.

The proposal have been submitted, but we all know what happens to proposals. 🙂

Due to the economic pressure and increased spending for subsidies, I doubt this proposal will be approved. Maybe at most, a one-off amount of 100 million to give some hope and alleviate the situation.
